In a sudden stop, traveling in a straight line my front seat passenger flew forward hitting the dashboard. There was no collision and the airbag did not deploy. The front passenger seat belt is defective. It won't retract into the panel of the rear door. On the internet, I note >200000 fj's were recalled for defective lower retractors for the front seat belts, both sides. I contacted Toyota and was advised my fj was not one of them. I would like to know why.
I went to the post office came out and my seat belt was frozen up wont move at all had to drive all the way home with no seat belt on still cant get it to work.
The driver seat belt will not contract back.
Will not retract. Looks like it is a common problem. Dealership will not help, only charge to fix replace part. Belt is loose across chest and will not even feed back into the mechanism.
The passenger side seat belt retractor is malfunctioning. There was a recall of 209,000 of my exact make and model (years 2007-2013) with the exact same problem. Toyota claims my VIN is not on their list for recalls and wants $416. 18 to fix the seatbelt retractor. It seems absurd that they won't take responsibility for this safety issue.
Driver side seat belt does not retract. Stays loose over chest. There was a recall over this but for some reason my fj wasn't in the recall.
Seat belts no longer working, ends do not click together to secure safety.
The vehicle has a major flaw in the design of driver and front passenger seatbelt, the seatbelt retractors are located inside the rear suicide door of the vehicle. The rear door of the vehicle while sitting or driving allows moisture and rain to come inside and drip directly onto the seatbelt, which over a period of time starts to rust the the seatbelt tensioner and cause a malfunction, I as well as many other people have had to replace my seatbelt due to it not working. This is a problem with all model years, it is dangerous and the part cost 300$ and will keep going bad in any wet climate, there are many articles on this on the forums, almost all of the seatbelt malfunctions are due to this design flaw. I have had to replace my passenger seatbelt and now my driver seatbelt.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the front occupant classification system failed. When a passenger was seated in the front passenger seat, the front passenger air bag was off and the front passenger seat belt warning indicator illuminated that the seat belt was off. The vehicle was taken to grand blanc Toyota motorcars, ltd (9000 holly road, grand blanc, michigan, (810) 695-4400) several times for the air bag failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic test and recalibrated the front passenger seat sensor; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they replaced the front passenger sensor, wiring harness, and seat cage; however, the failure was not corrected. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer wanted to reimburse the contact for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.
Went to gas station today to fill up my fj with gas and the fuel tank straps broke in 2 places. The bolted and pinned connections are still there but the actual straps have deteriorated and snapped right in half. The fuel tank is now hanging down completely in the rear. First the rear differential manufacturer's defect which they would not pay for at all, now the front seat belt does not work at all and now the fuel tank is about to fall off on the road. What a hazard.
Passanger side seat belt rusted out and stopped retracting at 60k miles. Driver side is also starting to go.
Set belt broken.
Drivers seat belt will not retract.
Driver side seat belt retractor stopped working. Seat belt is fully extended and will not retract the seat belt. Online research shows seat belt retractor springs are rusting internally, thus preventing the retractor from returning the seat belt to normal position. Driving, parking, etc. Will not result in the seat belt retracting at all.
The seat belt is stuck in the out position 24/7 and will not retract. It is apparently a common problem. It is known that these seat belt retractors are fully rusted and ready to fall apart. It is unheard of in a vehicle that is 10 years old. It must be faulty construction / engineering of the part. Toyota will not honor any such repairs to safety equipment, unless 3 years or less, which is a surprise because one would think having the liability of faulty safety equipment such as seat belts not working correctly and possible cause of death due to seat belt not retracting at all. A seat belt does no good if stuck in the all the way out position.
Seat belts for both driver's side and passenger side do not retract back completely once used. Especially, the driver's side seat belt was getting worse as it was used. Finally, driver's side seat belt locked and does not pull or retract. Taking it to the dealership. . .
The seat belt retractor in my 2007 Fj Cruiser has failed to function. Something as important to the safety of the driver of the vehicle is something that should be covered under the lifetime warranty of the vehicle. Instead, bayridge Toyota is telling me that I will have to pay to have these parts replaced. I'm horrified that Toyota has not issued a recall for this issue to correct, Toyota should assume responsibility for fixing an important safety feature. Emergency brakes wouldn't go on.
The front passenger seat belt will not retract or pull-out. It is pulled enough to snap into the buckle. The dealership said it was not part of the safety belt recall that covered added reinforcement brackets. These reinforcement brackets were added to the fj on 4/6/2017. The quote to replace the seat belt mechanism was $330. I cannot carry a passenger in the front due to the seat belt malfunction. Is this issue covered by any recalls?.
I have not been notified of any recalls by Toyota listed by the NHTSA for this vehicle. I have been experiencing longer, wobbly stopping for a while now. Recently replaced brake pads and it got a little better but not much. Had I been notified of the recall issues I would have taken it to the dealer.
Driver seat belt wont retract. Defect on recall and reportedly repaired on 08-15-13 at carson city scion, nevada. The defect remains as seat belt will not retract. I purchased vehicle used in July, 2016; seat belt retracted then but was very loose requiring adjustment constantly. I contacted Toyota of salinas on 2/28/17 and spoke with service manager don correll. Correll informed me his company would not repair the defect as Toyota in carson city already did. I then showed him, and service assistant ivan gonzales of the defect and advised them the safety defect was not properly repaired and remains defective and unsafe due to repair deficiency as it was self evident the alleged repair was not done properly. Correll's response was: : we are not going to fix your car".
Seat belt re tractor for drivers side inoperable and will not retract. I contacted local dealership as well as Toyota mgr whom stated there as no recall nor where they aware there was a problem. Vehicle was stationary when defect occurred. The belt now hangs loose and cannot be used.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the front passenger seat belt seized. The contact was unable to use the seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v098000 (seat belts). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
The seat belt retractor in my 2007 Fj Cruiser is failing to function correctly. Something as important to the safety of the driver of the vehicle is something that should be covered under the lifetime warranty of the vehicle. Instead, Toyota is telling me that I will have to pay to have these parts replaced. In doing some research I have discovered that others are having this same issue. I'm disappointed that Toyota has not issued a recall for this issue to correct their error in craftsmanship.
The driver side seat belt retractor no longer retracts seatbelt. Leaving the belt loose and my cause significant danger in the event of an accident. The seat belt systems are supposed to work and outlive the life of the car.
Dealer refuses to honor recall letter vissued by Toyota corp. I have been to dealer twice and they say it doesny apply even though it does.
Front passenger seat belt fails to retract. Toyota says the entire seat belt and retractor needs replacing due to rusting of springs associated with the retractor. The truck has low miles, is 7 years old and stored/driven in a warm, dry and inland climate. There is no reason for rusting parts. A quick search reveals other Fj Cruisers with the same issue concerning the front driver and passenger seat belts failing to retract.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v098000 (seat belts). The recall repair was performed and afterward, the passenger's side seat belt would not retract. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the seat belt spiral would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,477. Updated 12/30/cn.
Toyota is risking lives with the Fj Cruiser - owners are currently driving with a risk of non-functional seat belts. After receiving a recall notice in the mail on Monday, 5/20, I checked the Toyota website and found the following information on the logged-in owner site: this is an important safety recall. Please contact your authorized Toyota dealer and schedule an appointment to perform an inspection and install reinforcement brackets on both doors access at no charge to you. Based upon the inspection, in limited cases, the seat belt retractor(s) and/or access door(s) may be replaced. I immediately made an appointment for that same afternoon. I had to argue with the dealer that the brackets were required (they wanted only to perform the inspection and stop there if no cracks were present). After finally agreeing that yes, the brackets needed to be installed (they had 'misread' the process flow chart! they don't appear to have had any training on what could potentially be a life-threatening situation for their customers), they said they had none in stock and would order them today. This morning they called me and said that Toyota has "blocked ordering of those parts" - and suggested that it might be because the solution doesn't work. Currently we are driving vehicles that do not meet minimal government safety requirements - both the driver and front passenger are in danger of having seat belts malfunction during an accident. They should be providing some type of relief (e. G. , loaner cars until the issue is resolved). Thank you.
An undetectable leak in the body or door of our vehicle is allowing rain water to accumulate inside the door. The water saturates the passenger seat belt and is compromising the integrity of the webbing.
The passenger sidemseat belt will not retract and is no longer a functioning set belt.
I beleive that seat belts are one of the most important safety features on a car and should last the life of a car. I am very surprised that the seat belts on this car started to show a failing trend at almost 40000 miles. Both passenger and driver sides are failing, retracting and locking-up issues. Passenger side completely failed yesterday, it is locked up. Cost to fix is very expensive. . Many fj owners are reporting the same problem, I encourage those with the same issue to file a complaint rather than posting it on Fj Cruiser forum. It should be a recall issue and Toyota should assume such a responsiblity for fixing an important safety feature.
2007 Toyota fj crusier. Passenger seat belt would not retract backward. The vehicle was taken to the Toyota dealer who advised that because the vehicle was outside of the 6 year/60,000 mile warranty and no recalls, the repair/replacement of the passenger seat belt assembly was at my expense. The driver side seat belt is also showing signs of a weak retract and appears that it will also require replacement soon.
Purchased certified used Toyota and never tried to use rear seat belts. When we tried to use seat belts all the rear seat belts were not working" would not latch".
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota fj crusier. The contact stated that the seat belts would not retract backward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that because the vehicle was outside of warranty and there were no recalls, repairs would be at the contacts expense. The manufacturer confirmed what the dealer stated and provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was 54,000.
Seat belt does not retract properly, it hangs up after a few inches. The frequency of this problem is 90% of the retracts. I told the dealer 4 times, they stated they couldn't find the problem. I scoff. Steering my car requires constant input to go straight, especially on the freeways. Before I know it I'm in the next lane. There is no neutral area in the center while going straight. I had an alignment and replaced all the tires, it still has this hazard. Brakes they pulse when slowing only at high speed. (65 mph) I do not ride the brakes, or run the car hard. This happened after normal driving. Seems like warped disks, but I do not stop fast, or drive like I'm racing. Note: headlights had to be readjusted because they did not point up the road enough, making huge blind spot at over 40 mph. I had dealer re-adjust, they pointed the down so far they made it worse. I adjusted them again, myself. The factory off road package it came with, I'm sure was the problem. They should have been adjusted by factory before sale. Speed control when going uphill and set at 60mph and driving at safe distance from car in front, it speeds up, getting danger close, and must be disabled before hitting car in front. Will you pay for these fixes?.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the passenger side seat belt would not retract. The dealer did not offer any assistance due to the mileage on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. No repairs were performed. The current mileage was 77,000. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The Toyota Fj Cruiser's seat belt is engineered hazard based on in seam design of the chasis. In the event of a side impact collision or the severance of the door from the body or shell of the vehicle the passenger can be extremely injured by the design of seat belt, or catapulted from the vehicle. The inner seam or floor would be a better position for the harnessing of the seat belt apparatus. In addition, the power train tends to be a little sticky possibly due to the oaring of the metal, viscosity enhancement can be made or research and design for better performance of gearing.
