The frame of the vehicle is rotted out. Holes in it. Front to back , side to side rotted. Toyota dealer looked at it at my request when it was in for service and said it was very bad. I’m a disabled 61 year old on social security, I cannot afford a frame or a new car.
Loss of brakes while driving. Brakes locking up. Complete frame rust.
I purchased the car from an individual on Dec. 12, 2020. Less than 30 days ago. I brought it to the body shop to see if they could fix the rattling sound that came from when I hit a bump. The cars body is in great condition. The mileage when I bought the car was 183,800. I assumed I may need to do some work on the car, but the body shop told me that the sound I was hearing was different parts of the undercarriage that had rusted so badly that they where close to falling off. Including the gas tank. They told me that Fj Cruisers where known for rusty under bottoms and that I would be a safety risk to myself and others if I drove the car. They also said the car was beyond normal repair. I will attached photos they sent me. I have driven the car 1,500 miles and it is considered undrivable and unfixable. I got a second opinion. Without knowing the results of the first opinion they came to the exact same conclusion. Except they told me to reach out to you.
Repeated beading issues. Forced to replace rims. Beading issues have occurred over multiple years. . . Since purchasing the car new.
Frame and parts badly rusted. Pieces falling off. Brake lines now rusting. Frame badly rusted as well. Internal fuel tank issues with corrosion.
Speeds above 55 mph cause the steering wheel to constantly shake. It seems to be a consistent issue regardless of the types of tires and balancing that is used.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. While driving between 50-60 mph, there was an abnormal vibration in the steering wheel. The contact stated that the vibration made the vehicle uncontrollable. The vehicle was taken to miller Toyota (located at 8566 sudley rd, manassas, va 20110, (703) 369-3040) where it was diagnosed that there was a bent wheel; however, replacing it would not remedy the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
On 7/18/15 at about 11:10 am in the newly paved parking lot of the lowes, latham, new york, the alloy rim of driver side front wheel split (rim into two pieces) causing the tire to blow out and the vehicle to graze the a light pole. The tire, wheel and rim did not hit anything prior to the rim failure. There were no potholes or obstructions in the lot. Even in grazing the light pole, the tire did not make contact with the pole, only the outer fender flare made contact. This was a spontaneous failure of the rim. Insurance investigation confirms the rim failure. Toyota denies rim failure. The rim and all parts removed from the vehicle are available for inspection.
New 2014 Fj Cruiser trails teams edition with bfgoodrich t/a ko tires cause vibration and steering wheel shimmy.
The left rear tire blew out, I didn't hit anything prior, and I tried to control the vehicle and bring it to a stop. I got it to be about 40 mph before I hit the cement railing on the bridge. Please call erica shockley at 18002360398 x 2307651 claim number pa11392744.
My issue started around June, I get the wheel shake/ shimmy at speeds of 55-65. Toyota sees the shake is there and then balances the tires and says its fixed . Toyota inspected the truck saying nothing is broken bent or anything saying they don't think anything is wrong. You can still see the shake is there and they keep blaming that the road is causing the shake. Saying its a crowing. In the road. Ive went to a Toyota dealer to get it inspected they say nothing is wrong and then 2 more times I went there and then they admit it and try fixing it. I am very upset with Toyota and corporate . I feel scared to drive it above 50 because there is a bad shake. And feels unsafe its causing the car to be all over the road.
Vehicle has a shimmy or shaking as felt in the steering wheel at speeds of 45 mph or higher. This seems much more pronounced when driving on a curve than on a straight highway. Have had the front tires balanced by the Toyota dealer 3 times so far, and the balancing is spot on (I watched them balance them), but shaking in the steering wheel still continues. The tires did not take excessive weights either. I have stock trd wheels with bf goodrich 265-75/16 tires - which came with the 2013 team trails edition. I don't believe this is a tire balancing problem, but something loose in the steering or suspension.
I have purchased an Fj Cruiser from city Toyota in daly city, CA on 7/12/2012. During my 15,000 mi maintenance check up, the service manager discovered that the lug nut studs on the wheels broke when he was torquing. He admitted that they were made in china and that he has forwarded this issue to Toyota corp because he said it's factory-related and have encountered similar issues. I am very concerned whether the new replacement studs they will put in my truck would be safe or as dangerous as the previous. I have researched online and have seen numerous factory studs that are defective. They I dont have the vehicle now and have been driving a rental car they paid for. I cant go to work out of state since they restricted me from using the rental car outside CA.
The issue started on 8/23/2012 while driving on I-95 in SC, my 2011 Fj Cruiser trail teams edition tire pressure warning indicator light came on. The very next day, I took my vehicle to a Toyota dealership in west columbia, SC to have it inspected. The dealership could not find anything wrong with the vehicle as the light had turned off that night. However, they did discover an unusual amount of error code messages from the cpu system and thought this may have caused the light to intermittently turn on/off. The dealership reset all error messages and released the vehicle back to me. As it was an isolated incident, I thought there was no reason to worry about it. A week later, while driving my vehicle on I-95 in nc, the same indicator light turned back on, this time for the remainder of my trip home to MD. After contacting Toyota of bowie to inspect the issue, they found nothing wrong with it and released the vehicle back to me. Soon thereafter, the same indicator light turned back on until mid-January 2013 when driving the vehicle to GA, the indicator light turned off. I had the vehicle serviced at I-95 Toyota (near brunswick, GA) and they indicated no issues were found with the vehicle even though I advised them of the incidents. They concluded that when I return home to have the vehicle looked at then. While returning home to MD, the indicator light turned back on and has stayed on ever since. Considering I have not received notice from Toyota for the safety recalls for the vehicle, I discovered them through the NHTSA website and I have an appointment for this morning to have a few current recalls that the dealership knows about to be fixed and will advise Toyota of annapolis (koon's) (where I originally purchased the vehicle) of the indicator light issue and concern. If any further information is needed, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Since new my vehicle has had a shaking steering wheel when reaching speeds over 55mph. After trying several different sets of tires, wheels and balancing my dealer has not been able to correct the issue. Toyota will not help and the steering is shaking so bad it feels unsafe to drive on the highway.
Steering wheel begins shakes at speeds of 50 to 60 mph. Have balanced, road balanced tires and still the steering wheel shakes, at this speed I am concerned there is something with the suspension/tires that may cause a crash in the future.
This vehicle can not maintain safe highway speeds of 55 mph due to severe wheel shimmy. I have ask day Toyota, and spitzer Toyota and I get the same results, nothing can be done. I have been told it is the tires. I have replace both wheel and tires and have the same result. I have done research on Toyota forums and the 2010 and new Toyota Fj Cruisers are having a problem, and Toyota will not do anything on this safety issue. My concern I losing control at highway speeds.
To whom it may concern, I recently bought out the lease of my 20007 Fj Cruiser from the hollywood Toyota dealership. I'm writing to notify you that I am extremely unhappy with my service and that I feel unsafe in my Toyota vehicle. I recently had to have my Fj Cruiser towed to the dealership because my front wheel nearly fell off while I was driving. When I inspected the tire it was clear that the wheel studs had broken clean off the body. The tire was barely hanging on by a thread. I'd like to note that upon purchasing the vehicle, I paid a substantial amount of extra money to have it "certified" by the dealership service department. It has been serviced at the dealership since the certification and it has only ever been worked on by Toyota dealer service technicians. I never heard about any issues with wheels or about wheel defects or recalls. After the wheel incident, the hollywood Toyota service department notified me that the wheel studs were defective and had failed. I have never been notified by Toyota about this possible issue in my model car. I believe that if there is a known defect in a product that all Toyota owners should be notified about it. After only the hub with obviously broken studs was replaced the dealership service department told me that there was no guarantee that more wheel studs wouldn't break off my other wheels. If I cannot be guaranteed by Toyota that the wheels will stay on my car while I drive it then I have to say that I have lost all confidence in the brand and will never purchase another product from both Toyota or this dealership ever again. I also asked the service department to notify the sales manager that sold me the vehicle so they could follow up with me to reassure me about the repairs. This request was ignored. I have a copied a post I found regarding 2007 fj's, as I had the same problem with my '07 fj, and after 6 months of repairs and no solutions, I traded it in for a 2010 fj, and now I'm having the same exact problems, as described below: I have a 2007 Toyota fj. The steering seems terribly weak and unpredictable. I've had the wheels aligned three times, but the problem continues. Toyota says the there is no issue but that the steering on this style vehicle is just sensitive. While I really enjoy the vehicle, I'm always on full alert when driving knowing that at any given time, the steering may suddenly take the vehicle left or right with no predictability. I have never experienced a newer vehicle that requires so much attention to the steering. It may go left or right when the roadway surface changes, when encountering uneven roadway surfaces, when transitioning from wet to dry or ice to clear pavement, or for seemingly no reason at all. Often I find myself actually counter steering (inputting opposite tension on the wheel) to keep the vehicle from going leaving the lane I'm traveling in. It is very unpredictable while changing lanes. As I begin a slow move to an adjacent lane, the steering may suddenly just pull me over to which I then have to counter steer to keep from going too far. I took my 2010 fj to a Toyota dealer where I bought it here in abq, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, of course. They said they would file a complaint with Toyota headquarters and sent me on my way. With my '07 fj I had the front brakes done, all new lug nuts, new tires, new shocks and struts, 7 alignments, and 3 rotation and balances (on the new tires), all within only six months using 5 different shops, and it still wasn't fixed. I am very unhappy and do not feel safe on the road in my 2010 fj. Please help.
2 wheel studs failed on two different wheels after applying 80 foot pounds torque to the lug nuts. Routine re-torque after the dealer rotated the tires for a 10,000 mile service. The stud metal appears to be too soft. Even if these studs were over tightened at the dealership, they should be able to handle way more than 80 fp before breaking. This is extremely dangerous. Toyota should replace all the studs on the vehicle as a precautionary measure. Taking the issue up with the dealer tomorrow. I will not feel safe driving this vehicle until all the studs have been inspected and replaced as necessary.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact started the ignition and the tire pressure monitoring system warning indicator illuminated intermittently. In addition, the failure would unexpectedly occur when driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who deflated the tires and the malfunction continued to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Updated 11/10/11.
Vehicle exhibits steering shimmy between 55-65 mph, vehicle can not maintain stable performance at highway speeds. Toyota have replace both wheel and tires and have the same result. Fj cruisers are having a problem, and Toyota will not do anything on this saftey issue.
The day I bought my new Toyota fj I took it to a tire shop for larger off-road tires. I watched the tech as he changed tires and remounted the wheels. He carefully tightened the lug nuts with a torque wrench, but on one, it was obvious to him and me both that the tightening effort suddenly got easier. He made another easy 1/4 turn and the stud came off. The manager looked at the stud and said it had to have been overtightened previously by the factory or was defective. They fixed it. About 4 months later I was putting on my wheels after installing a suspension lift. I used a torque wrench set at 80lbs and before it ever got to a normal tight the stud twisted off. . Read more...
Wheel stud broke off when changing to winter tires. A torque wrench was used to prevent overtorqueing. The car has 3247 miles. No one had touched the wheels until today. According to my research, this is a common problem seen with 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser and 2010 Toyota 4runner models. Nhtsa should ask Toyota to institute a safety recall for the dealers to inspect and replace any damaged wheel studs. . Read more...
2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser wheel studs failed when removing bolts to rotate tires. American tire center of palmdale California originally installed four new tires with less than 10k mi. On odometer. At approximately 15k mi. When same company attempted to remove wheels for routine tire rotation the wheel studs began breaking one after the other. 4 out of 6 wheel studs failed on front right wheel alone. American tire center replaced the broken studs, however, when owner took vehicle to dealer to perform precautionary wheel stud replacement the dealer, (without performing inspection) said it was american tire center who likely overtorqued bolts and that it would not be covered under factory warranty. Lugs were all deformed at specific point along the middle of the shaft and had a stretched "taffy-like" appearance but only in the middle of the lug. Replacement cost for complete wheel lug replacement was estimated at $600. 00 by huntington beach Toyota dealership. Broken wheel studs retained by owner for further investigation. Further action suspended until owner returns from military duty overseas. VIN not immediately available to complainant due to overseas deployment.
I have a dangerous steering issue. I tried to get my Toyota dealer to fix it, or adjust it but they said nothing was wrong. I feel they didn't want to even try. This issue has almost led to head-on collisions many times. I have replaced the tires, no help there. I had it aligned, (at dealer I purchased it from) with no improvements at all. What it does is, to stay in the center of the road I can not turn my head away from constantly adding steering input. This is an issue a big one, my car drifts left or right but rarely goes straight when steered straight, I must constantly make adjustments to its direction. Before I replace the tires again, (the car has only 53,000 miles on it) and align it again I feel this problem must be fixed or properly adjusted to work without constant steering input to stay in my lane. I replaced tires with better than it came with, costing around $750 these are now showing bad wear after less than 20,000 miles and purchase information said I should not need to replace them for 60,000 miles. Additional information is the last 300 feet to my house is a dirt road, but it's not that bumpy and shouldn't be the reason that I can't steer it straight on asphalt.
Wheels on Toyota 2007 Fj Cruiser, the paint on wheels started bubbling, I then experienced air pressure loss in all 5 tires including spare tire. I have to constantly check tire pressure as all wheels continually leak air. Causing different air pressure in tires. This is a factory defect and could cause loss of control at any given time.
Vehicle exhibits steering shimmy between 40-60 mph. Dealer has replaced 4 sets of lt tires and 1 set or rims. After each new set of tires and a fresh road force balance the tires and a few hundred miles of driven the shimmy would come back. The vehicle's door place card for the tires says 33psi and 35psi in two different stickers. The tires would self destruct within a few thousand miles and the dealer was unable to balance them again. This is a result of underin-flation for "e" rated tires. Toyota has since changed the psi to 46 vs 35 via a recall. In many cases the ecu needs to be replaced in order for this recall to be performed. Toyota motor sales is refusing to perform this recall going back to 2008 on vehicles not running the oe tire. Even if it is "e" rated. This created a serious safety hazard. Running under-inflated tires will heat up and risk a blow out. Running the NHTSA psi of 46 will cause the current toms to fail and defeats the whole mandated tpms system.
Broken wheel studs on 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. 3 wheel studs on rear tires broke during a normal tire rotation and balance. Defective studs were replaced w/ aftermarket studs. Consequences could be a loss of a wheel during vehicle operation.
#8 - steering problem of the 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser the vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. This vehicle can not maintain safe highway speeds of 55 to 60 mph due to severe wheel shimmy. I have had these wheels force balance about a dozen times, still having the same issue. Why won't Toyota look into this problem. I have tried new tires and still the same problem, so I put back the original tires and replace the rims, still the same problem. . This is costing consumers a lot of money and time. Now I am replacing the rotors to see if that helps. I have done research on Toyota forums and the 2010 and new Toyota Fj Cruisers are having a problem, and Toyota will not do anything on this safety issue. My concern I losing control at highway speeds.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the front end alignment was not adequate because the tires weighed significantly more than what was indicated in the owner’s manual. The contact also stated that the manufacturer installed the incorrect sized tires on the vehicle. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer offered assistance because the repairs associated with NHTSA campaign id number 11v148000 (tires:pressure monitoring and regulating systems), had already been performed. The contact believed that this was not the correct remedy for the failure. No additional repairs were performed. The failure mileage was 1,500 and the current mileage was 17,000.
