When stopping at a red light or stop sign, the automatic transmission has not down shifted to first gear. So while stopped, the car will suddenly lung forward as if hit from behind. This is extremely dangerous for pedestrian crossing in front of the car. There is a very real potential for the car to hit a person when it lunges forward. Since realizing this problem, I intentionally hold down the brake harder than I should have too. There are other issues with the transmission but I though that particular issue is very dangerous. The vehicle has approx 70,000 miles and although this problem was happening from time to time, it is becoming more frequent to where I have to assume it every time I come to a stop.
I was driving at approximately 35mph when all of a sudden, there was a loss of acceleration and the engine just stalled in the middle of the road. I couldn't start it back up. There were no warning sign whatsoever and I didn't think it had anything to do with the fuel because it still read that I had a little under 1/4 of gas. Upon putting fuel, the car started back up. . 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser, build date:10/07. Have had unnerving experiences with the brake system on my fj. (1) when braking over a non smooth road the brake pedal pulsates for a long period and does not stop the vehicle. (2) had to panic stop and hit the brakes hard, they locked up, there was no braking just the abs took over and locked up the brakes hard to the point that I was glad I was wearing my seat belt, because I would've been lying in the street. (3) the pedal will be hard one time and mushy the next when applying the brakes. When the pedal is mushy the brakes do not work appropriately, nearly rear ending people or locking up the brakes to stop. (4) when at a stop the pedal was mushy and I tried to "pump"up the pedal by pumping the brake pedal, all the warning lights came on (related to the braking system) the dash and an annoying alarm sounded, has happened 3 times now. (5) when the pedal is mushy I can push it down all the way to the stopping point/floor with no resistance. Called the dealer they said they have never had any "issues".
Seat belt does not retract properly, it hangs up after a few inches. The frequency of this problem is 90% of the retracts. I told the dealer 4 times, they stated they couldn't find the problem. I scoff. Steering my car requires constant input to go straight, especially on the freeways. Before I know it I'm in the next lane. There is no neutral area in the center while going straight. I had an alignment and replaced all the tires, it still has this hazard. Brakes they pulse when slowing only at high speed. (65 mph) I do not ride the brakes, or run the car hard. This happened after normal driving. Seems like warped disks, but I do not stop fast, or drive like I'm racing. Note: headlights had to be readjusted because they did not point up the road enough, making huge blind spot at over 40 mph. I had dealer re-adjust, they pointed the down so far they made it worse. I adjusted them again, myself. The factory off road package it came with, I'm sure was the problem. They should have been adjusted by factory before sale. Speed control when going uphill and set at 60mph and driving at safe distance from car in front, it speeds up, getting danger close, and must be disabled before hitting car in front. Will you pay for these fixes?.

#8 - steering problem of the 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser the vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. This vehicle can not maintain safe highway speeds of 55 to 60 mph due to severe wheel shimmy. I have had these wheels force balance about a dozen times, still having the same issue. Why won't Toyota look into this problem. I have tried new tires and still the same problem, so I put back the original tires and replace the rims, still the same problem. . This is costing consumers a lot of money and time. Now I am replacing the rotors to see if that helps. I have done research on Toyota forums and the 2010 and new Toyota Fj Cruisers are having a problem, and Toyota will not do anything on this safety issue. My concern I losing control at highway speeds.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph, proceeding to a complete stop. The vehicle surged without warning. When the brakes were engaged there was a slow response. The failure continued until the gear was shifted into neutral position. The failure occurred spontaneously. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The current and failure mileages were 18,000. Updated 6/1/10 the consumer stated the incidents happened on dry roads and the incidents has happened three other times within the last 6 months. No floor mats were involved during the incidents. The consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 06/04/10.
My Toyota Fj Cruiser once again scared the life out of me. The vehicle again started to accelerate at high speed when traveling down hill. I live in pr with lots of hills. I went to a dorado dealer who told me my vehicle was out of warranty. I had less than 36k miles but have owned the vehicle for more than 3 years. I believe the vehicle is a problem which merits your attention. The vehicle has done this to me many times. Please look into this problem and bring us peace of mind.
Speed control speeds up vehicle when applying brakes to disengage speed control and slow vehicle. This has happened on numerous occasions while attempting to disengage the speed control by using the brake pedal.
I own a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser with a manual transmission. The throttle management software is a joke at best and dangerous at worst. The vehicle engine rpm will not go below 12-1800rpm when the vehicle is moving unless the speed is somewhere below 5mph. This can be very annoying at times and dangerous at others. Driving on ice, towing a trailer, driving in hilly terrain. There is no engine braking available at any speed above 5mph. When the software does finally close the throttle completely it does so abruptly causing a jerky condition that can lead to loss of control on ice. At 20mph, for instance driving in a school zone, the throttle cannot be set to maintain a steady speed. The vehicle alternates between accelerating and almost complete throttle shut off. There is no in between. I have seen this same behavior when driving off road in steep terrain. Not only is it annoying but it is dangerous. I have had the vehicle to Toyota twice and they claim it is normal for this model and that there is nothing that can be done. The other thing that it does is hold the last rpm for several seconds when shifting between gears. Not so much dangerous as annoying and causes excessive wear on driveline components and is also extremely wasteful of fuel.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. While at a stop light or whenever the vehicle would sit idle, the engine rpms would increase abnormally and the vehicle would proceed to lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he advised the failure was normal and due to lack of lubrication in the propeller shaft, causing the solenoid to stick. The dealer did not investigate the vehicle any further and to date, the vehicle continued to demonstrate the failure. There were no open recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000 and the current was 45,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The contact stated that the vehicle would accelerate abnormally and without warning. The contact believed that the accelerator and brake pedals were too close in proximity, causing the vehicle to react abnormally. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repair to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 13,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. Whenever the contact attempts to accelerate while the vehicle is already in motion the vehicle will suddenly begin to hesitate and the engine will begin to make a loud surging sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was working properly. The contact noticed prior that the vehicle was not getting the gas mileage as stated by the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 1373.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser. When the contact would drive the vehicle he noticed that the rpms would rise regardless if he depressed the accelerator pedal. The pedal would occasionally stick to the floor of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was performing properly and that the high engine idle was due to the vehicle burning off ignition fumes. The vehicle had not been serviced at the tiime of the complaint. The failure mileage was 4563, and the currnt mileage is 4867.
2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser. I've had acceleration issues with my Toyota Fj Cruiser, as mentioned in the current recalled models. While attempting to come to a stop, the engine revs and "accelerates" at an uncontrollable level throwing the car out of control. This has happened a minimum of 3 time already and possibly more that I wrote off as other issues. 2 of the 3 times I turned sharply to the right and off the road without hitting anyone or anything, applying the brake until the engine slowed down and I could come to a full stop. I called Toyota, (may 2009) and they thought it might be a computer issues affecting acceleration, of course this was before the widespread recall. These issues were not due to floor mats or sticky accelerators. I understand that my car, 2007 fj, is not part of the recall, but has the same issues as the recalled models.
Antilock brakes activated after hitting ripple in exit ramp surface. Vehicle would not stop despite pressing down harder on the brake pedal. Required releasing brake pedal completely and then reapplying brakes to cause vehicle to stop. Came very close to shooting out into four-way intersection. Has happened on several occasions under similar circumstances (very minor bump on road causes antilocks to active upon breaking though this doesn't actually stop the vehicle).
I bought a new 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser and while I had my foot on the brake the engine accelerated. This happened two times within 3 months of me buying the car. Since then over a year has passed and this has not happened again.
1) problem has happened twice: driving approximately 35 mph then hitting a pothole at just the moment braking was required because traffic ahead had stopped; while my foot was on the brake, the pedal dropped to the floor with no braking action. Only after releasing and pumping, did braking action return. 2) this has occurred twice. Both times I narrowly avoided causing accidents -- not to mention the sudden rush of fear and panic I experienced. 3) no corrective action taken. The dealer said they were unable to recreate the problem.
My vehicle experiences rpm gain when trying to stop, and a the rpms never resided between shifts of gears or until the vehicle was below 5 mph. On several occasions during emergency safety stops the vehicle has actually accelerated during the braking process. Toyota explained that these rpm conditions were due to new technology in automobiles.
Engine accelerates to 1500 rpm when I take my foot completely off the throttle when driving at slow speeds (under 1500 rpm). This causes the vehicle (manual transmission) to speed up instead of slowing down, exactly the opposite of the "engine braking" that one would expect. I feel this presents a major safety hazard when driving in traffic and / or icy road conditions.
