2 Wiper problem of the 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

Hello, I was sold a used vehicle by Toyota dealership of downtown los angeles (CA) that has a broken windshield. They state they will not assist me in any way for a broken windshield. The windshield has multiple cracks and chips in it strewn across the windshield. It causes serious visual disturbance, especially at night since the chipped glass distorts lights and vehicles, almost blurs the view. Initially, I believed it was traces of tree sap, I made several attempts to remove this tree sap spots, only to discover that they wouldn't go away because it's actually broken glass.

3 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

Windshield wipers have failed to work for long periods or have to play with switch to work right. Took car in years ago while under warranty to fix and resolved problem for a few years but is now reoccurring. Also drivers side door window switch intermittenly works. I dont know if this is connected to wiper switch but have seen recalls on other Toyotas that have this problem and had a recall but none for fj. Specifics turn on car, turn on slector switch for wipers "slow thru high it dont matter". Wipers dont work.

4 Wiper problem of the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

The windshield of the Fj Cruiser seems to be unusually susceptible to pitting under normal driving conditions. When the sun or oncoming headlights shine on the windshield it becomes extremely difficult to see the road. The windshield suddenly appears to be dirty and translucent. Reference vehicle is a Toyota certified used vehicle. In overcast conditions the windshield is fine and appears fine from a distance. However, closer inspection reveals massive pitting that appears at first like dirt. Inspection of the hood paint, roof, wiper arms, plastic headlight lenses and trim reveal no similar damage. Online forums seem to confirm this and owners previously driving the same routes and using vehicles with very flat windshields such as jeeps seem to be reporting that this problem is new to them after purchasing the Fj Cruiser. Many report they have had to replace the windshield numerous times for pitting. I have vehicles with over 200k miles on them with no such apparent pitting. This seems to be a weakness with the glass and is very dangerous when light hits it and the road ahead is near impossible to see. . Read more...

5 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Due to the steep vertical angle of the windshield and the placement of the defroster vent several inches back from the windshield, the windshield cannot be kept clear by the defroster. The airstream from the defroster does not hit the lower 1/3 of the windshield and the left hand driver side and no amount of air even at maximum temperature will keep the windshield from icing over. The wiper blades become encrusted with ice and fail to keep the windshield cleared. In even a modest snowstorm, visibility quickly drops to nearly zero. My wife nearly wrecked the vehicle because of this issue. In addition, due to the large thermal gradient across the windshield caused by this issue, the windshield cracks in a horizontal line extending across nearly the entire windshield at the location of the defroster airstream contact. This phenomenon has happened 2 times! I have talked to my local Toyota dealer several times and they are in complete denial about the issue and claim "everything is working as designed". This is a fatal problem as the vehicle cannot be driven in a snowstorm and I would not be the slightest bit surprised if there have been accidents because of it. Using fmea (failure mode effects analysis) I would rate the probability of this failure occurring to be a 1 (guaranteed to happen) and effects are catastrophic (loss of operability).

6 Wiper problem of the 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

When driving in snow conditions the windshield wipers build up amazing amounts of ice. I spoke with dealership and they claim it does that because of the angle of the windshield. I was having to pull over and stop to break the ice off my wipers because they stopped clearing the windshield and I would loose visibility. Also, the underside of the Fj Cruiser builds up and collects ice like nothing I have ever seen. I am a over the road truck driver and have driven in all types and levels of bad weather, I have never seen ice build up like it does on the Fj Cruiser. . The first time I thought it might have just been a fluke but it repeated the ice build up yesterday when it snowed again.

I have impacted more than three vehicles behind the above mentioned vehicle because the back part is too high and it affects visibility to lower cars. This car does not have any reverse camera or sensor.
