We were driving down the highway I-30 east up a hill going appt 70 mph when the car went into limp mode and slowed down to 10 mph. Then went to only 1 mph. We checked the battery connection, fuel cap, everything we found online to check.

I replaced my brakes after several warning lights and codes kept popping up on my dash. Had the rotors turned. But when I returned to driving my car after I thought it was fixed the brakes would all of a sudden just go out the hydraulic part would go completely to the floor. The car would make a high pitched noise and then no brakes. Took it to Toyota in clinton TN. Said my abs brake actuator was failing. Would cost me 2200 dollars to fix. This certain part on your car is supposed to last you a lifetime. I dont have money like that now it was take me a lifetime to save up for the repairs. Very scary. This would happen to me randomly as I was driving no matter where or how far the trip I was taking. Didn't know if I was going to be able to make it home sometimes. You just never knew when. Sometimes it would be fine and others it would be absolutely scary.

Currently, the vehicle in motion, however it potentially causes unsafely if not fixed as requested. The reason I come to you for complaint, I do have a situation with carlson Toyota and/or Toyota motor groups. Here the situation what happens. I do have 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. I drove this SUV since 2009. I have a number of records from the same dealer to maintain the SUV safe. However, couple month ago on 04/22/2019, I got some of the dashboard light indicates anti-lock braking system (abs) check light is on. I took the car to the carlson Toyota dealer pay diagnosed fee $149. 00 and the results is unpredictable prices. See the lists: 1) break actuator assembly----------------------------$2225. 00 2) right rear wheel bearing and harness ----------$1156. 00 total------------------------------------------------------$3,381. 00 the reason I am complaining today not because of the price to high. However, I found Toyota published letter on April 19, 2016, to all Toyota dealer principals, general managers, service managers, and parts managers. Under the subject line warranty enhancement program zg1, for all 2006-2007 model year Highlander Hybrid, and others type included. Also, down the last three paragraph (see attached letter) indicates under owner letter mailing date, said Toyota will begin to notify owners in late April, 2016 and will be mailed over several months. A sample of the owner notification letter has been included for your reference. after I found the published notice, I went to the carlson Toyota dealer on 06/18/2019. I described the situation and I showed the recipes of where I get from during inspection, and finally they told me this warranty enhancement program is expired. I ask them how is expired, nobody told me about this recall or warranty enhancement program. I need help to resolve this situation. See attached documents.
The brake actuator pump failed and was replace under the warrantee extension zg1. The replacement brake actuator pump failed but Toyota will not cover it. It is a very expensive defective part. When the part fails many systems are impacted especially the brakes.
Brake actuator assembly on my 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has been failing. Know issue. I've taken excellent care of this vehicle and had it serviced at the dealership. The manufacturing is replace the previous years, but not the 2008 which is the exact same component. Please let me know why this is happening. Not just to me, but others too. Please help us. Thanks.

Vsc, abs, traction control error light. My mechanic identified this as a failer accumulator (abs module), he said there is a TSB from Toyota. I know there was a recall on this issue on this vehicle through year 2007. Concerned about possibility of total brake failure.
We were driving the car normally on city streets, not even braking at the time when suddenly the abs light and a couple others lit up on the dashboard along with a warning message on the screen about the abs and vcs systems. Braking still worked as did everything else (less the abs I assume).
While driving on a residential road the brake system failed to properly stop the car. This issue first happened in January 2017. At that time I took the car in and had the brake actuator assembly replaced under a limited service recall by Toyota and the replacement actuator assembly also failed within 18 months. While driving through a residential area the brakes again failed to stop the car, making a grinding noise and jerking to a halt after pressure applied to the brake pedal. Because the actuator assembly was replaced under the limited service recall Toyota denies any culpability in the failure of the replacement part and refuses to offer further assistance.
I am getting a "check vsc system" on the dashboard along with a red triangle, orange abs light, orange traction control light, red brake light and orange exclamation mark inside a circle. I have been hearing weird popping noises when braking also.
I was driving my car all of a sudden emergency lights went on, brakes lights, 4wd system lights too telling me to pull over once I pulled over on to side of the road I put it in park shut the car off ,turned it back off to see a change put it in drive the car was stuck and all lights previously stated were flashing a warning . And the car was unable to move I was very lucky because if I had continued driving I was about to enter highway with no sides to pullover and the car would have shut off and I would have been rear ended , three days prior to this incident I had given it for repair to Toyota dealership in bayside NY they charged approximately 850dollars for a wire they alleged had been pinched. Now two the second incident I had to get the car towed again from long island to dealership in bayside there now asking for 1900 for labor and computer work now they are asking for an abs actuator which is 2,700 + to top it off Iam unaware about the labor .
I have a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid . Has 110k miles and the abs light came twise in one week while vehicle was in motion before applying the brakes. What would happens happened their is a need for a hard stop . Atter resetting abs light. Had pulled c1391 for abs accumulator leak. Very unsafe to drive due to my vehicle is braking only on base brakes and my abs and vsc system has been deactivated due to fault present. Not sure why its not covered on extended warranty like other 2006 and 07 models. Same system up to 2010. What is the purpose of having abs if it doesn't work when you need it the most.
I have a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid . Has 200k miles and the abs light came twice in one week while vehicle was in motion before applying the brakes. After resetting abs light, had pulled c1252, c1256, c1319 & c1391 for abs accumulator/actuator leak. Very unsafe to drive due to my vehicle is braking only on base brakes and my abs and vsc system has been deactivated due to fault present. Not sure why its not covered on extended warranty like other 2006 and 07 models. Over 200 complaints with the same issue. Repairs around $4,500 and up. Recall urgently needed!.
The abs ,vsc ,check engine light coming on when accelerating. Stating to park vehicle and take it to the dealer.
The abs actuator failed and Toyota has a recall for this part on 2006&2007 models but not for the 2008 model. The repair cost at a minimum is $3000 which is absurdly high. This means that I do not have anti locking brakes making it unsafe for me to drive.
While driving under normal conditions, all dash lights went on saying check vsc system, abs, brake lights, warnings and traction. Took vehicle to service at Toyota dealer and was told the abs actuator assembly has to be replaced, for nearly $2500. This is a vehicle with under 65,000 miles on it and the actuator should last for the life of the vehicle. I just had the radiator replaced and brakes replaced two months ago. This problem was not detected. Brakes have always been soft on this vehicle. Now the battery is not charging and the brakes only seem to work off and on. I have to pump the brakes to make them work right. This is a huge safety problem as all of my driving is in the city in traffic. From reading online this is a problem that occurs frequently with this type of Toyota highlander and other models. I don't feel safe driving it and I can't afford to fix it. It's barely worth the cost of repairing it. If this is a known public safety issue why doesn't Toyota recall this part? the service person told me the brakes may now fail at any time, in a day or in two weeks. He told me to avoid other vehicles on the road!.
First a loud ringing happened and car would not stop. We have serviced car regularly, brakes are new, but car does not stop. Trying to brake at the intersection, stop light and highlander would not stop. Put us in danger almost led me into accident, was told it was the abs system and that Toyota is aware of this. This is a huge safety design issue and expensive fix Toyota needs to fix their design flaws. There is not physical contact or wear and tear on the part for it to fail. Ms. Deborah huston at Toyota stone walls the process to get this resolved. She claims Toyota is not aware of these issues, but the NHTSA records show customers have been complaining for a long time and that they know.
We purchased a 2008 Highlander Hybrid in 2016. The car was practically maintenance free until last week. All service except oil changes have been done by the local Toyota dealer. My wife was pulling out of the driveway when the abs/vsc lights came on and the console said to pull over. A code scan said it was c1391, internal acc pressure leak. Took it to the dealer. They said it needed a new brake accumulator and a new brake booster for a total of over $5000! researching the issue, I found it is a fairly common issue for these cars. When I called Toyota to ask if the cost of this repair, equal to 1/3 the cost of the vehicle, could be mitigated, I eventually got a woman who told me that since I didn't take the car in to the dealer for nearly a year in 2015, I was not a loyal Toyota customer and they have chosen not to help me. Really!!?? the car didn't need any service during that time! I own 5 other cars including a couple of bmws and I have never had a repair this expensive and have never been admonished by an automobile company representative for not getting a car serviced when it didn't need it. This was our first Toyota and will be out last.
I purchased the vehicle used in August 2018. In January, warning lights indicated a vsc system problem. The event occurred while I was driving. I researched car repair websites and forums, and discovered that this is often a simple problem with a sensor for the fuel door, or a linkage in the accelerator assembly. I followed instructions, and the light turned off. Over the past six weeks, the lights have returned, usually in association with refueling the vehicle. I took the vehicle to a dealer today, and was informed that an abs actuator was failing. The part is $1700 from Toyota, with labor totaling $600. Further research revealed the problem was widespread, but the only remedy was a warranty enhancement that has already expired. I cannot afford this repair, and I was not informed of this issue at purchase. Because this issue was critical for vehicle safety, I felt the need to alert the NHTSA to a continuing problem.
Takata recall in 3 times the light "ready '' disappear and appear "check hybrid system" and then engine need to start again. .
I was on the highway when my car gave a warning to pull over safely due to a brake malfunction and to take to the dealer. The vsc system light also came on. I see Toyota recalled this in the 2006 and 2007 but not the 2008 Highlander Hybrid. This is a $2000. 00 fix for the accumulator brake actuator assembly. If this is such a know problem why is there no recall for 2008.
2006 Highlander Hybrid, check hybrid system, check vsc light, brake and abs light all on permanently and my brakes aren't working. I was fortunate noone got hurt. . It was really dangerous when you press the brake and it doesn't stop. . . . From what I read abs accumulator which cost 3k+ to replace and the hybrid inverter which cost 5k+ to replace. Nhtsa please issue a recall on this issues.
Abs, vsc lights came on while on a bridge on at highway at 70 mph; pulled over safely to check function; brakes still worked, abs did not; took to a dealer next day; dealer advised the abs accumulator was defective and other error codes (over power) indicated a leak in the abs network. Dealer advised parts alone would exceed 4800 usd not including labor.
Most of dashboard lights went on and brakes failed to engage when 17 y/o son driving vehicle as pulling into parking spot. Able to use emergency brake as in parking lot and stop the vehicle. Took to Toyota and told actuator needed to be replaced to cost of about $2400. This occurred on 01/09/2018. We found out after the fact the extended warranty on this expired on 12/31/2017 just 9 days before our son had this incident. Luckily in parking lot as we live in the mountains and could have been a fatality/serious injury in another setting. We have filed complaint w/ Toyota.
Brakes stopped working with lights coming on requesting to take it to dealership. Dealership says it is the abs actuator which is malfunctioning and requesting me to replace it at 3500$. Toyota has been making this part defective and has been recalling this for similar model years. 2007 has a recall. 2008 camry hybrid has a recall. They should just recall this part across the board.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. While reversing at 5 mph, the vsc, check traction control, abs, and brake malfunction warning indicators illuminated. The contact was still able to drive to drive to his destination, but the indicators remained illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 147,200.
Car seemingly running fine. Vsc light, abs light and brake malfunctiom light come on out of nowhere. Told to tow to dealership. $3450 to replace abs actuator. Same part has been recalled in other years and models but not 2008 Highlander Hybrid. This repair is 1/10 the cost of the original purchase price of the new car. Car has 116,000 miles on it.
In August of 2017 we were driving our 20088 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and all of sudden the display warned of abs vsc malfunction and to pull over or take car to nearest dealer, the brake pedals lost compression or pressure and the brake was not working hardly. Took to the mechanic shop that has been doing the regular maintenance, they performed diagnostics and stated abs module needed to be replaced. They advise car was not safe to drive. Checked this website and carcomplaints to see many other users same issue, contacted Toyota, they stated they had no recalls, its out of warranty, we would have to pay the $4000 to have fixed, we paid for the repair out of pocket, which was a financial hit for us. Contacted Toyota today about reimbursement for repair cost, said they dont have it recalled or a campaign for the issue, I stated this website with the complaints and other sites, was basically told until a recall is on the issue, wouldnt be refunded.
Faulty break system this would be 2 time to get fix in less than 1 and 3 months.
Total system failure. See detailed attached document.

Brake malfunction warning stop the vehicle and contact a dealer, check brake system, check vsc (vehicle stability system).
I was driving straight on a city street at 40 mph when the vehicle stability control and check brake system warnings alerted, as well as the cabin alarm. At that time I pulled into a gas station and realized the brakes had gone soft and were not functioning properly. I turned off and restarted the car; the problem persisted. I cautiously drove a half mile to my house and connected my vehicle to a diagnostic tool. The codes indicated c1252-7 (brake booster pump motor), c1256-7 (low pressure accumulator), and c1345-7 (linear solenoid valve offset learning undone). The combination of codes points to the brake actuator and pump needing to be replaced. The brake pads, speed sensors, wheel bearings, and relays are all good. After much online research I discovered that brake actuator/pump failure is a common complaint on this vehicle and costs thousands to repair. 2006-2007 brake actuators are already recalled, as well as 07-11 camry hybrid and prius which use the same platform. I contacted a local Toyota dealership who offered no help. The part itself is $1800+ without factoring in labor. I am also troubled by the safety factor this malfunction presents, especially we're it to occur at a higher speed.
I was driving my car and when I brake to slow down I heard a chime and a check vcs system warning came with abs , brake and slip indicator ,master warning light and electronic controlled brake system warning light came on too. I have found that in 2013 there was a safery recall dlf(d2f) on certain highlander hv 2006-2010.
Abs system malfunction, stationary, went online found numerous accounts.
Abs system fault.
I was driving to an off ramp when my 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid just stop in the middle of a very busy traffic! it almost caused a terrible accident. I had it towed and the Toyota dealership diagnosed it as an inverter converter problem and will cause me $11000 (yes, eleven thousand dollars) to replace it. This appear to be an engineering defect fault. Of all the warning in place it seems to inform the driver, such as the abs light, low gas gauge, low air, oil maintenance warning, why not the 'inverter problem detected, bring your car to the dealer now?'. I feel that Toyota is being irresponsible in designing a car that just simply stop in the middle of the highway or on any street without warning. This error is super dangerous and can cause innocent lives and Toyota should take responsibility in correcting the wrong instead of hiding behind the scene. I did some research and found that there are other such problem but their customer service said that my vehicle id number is not on the recall list. Who include my vehicle on the recall list anyway? certainly this is a problem after all it is affecting vehicles 2006 to 2012? please help.
