The contact then had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle's engine was taken apart. It was then discovered that the failure was linked to a defective engine valve spring. The contact spoke with the manufacturer who offered her $2,500 towards the repair of the engine if the repair was performed by an authorized Toyota dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired.
