Accelerator Pedal Problems of Toyota Land Cruiser

2013 Toyota Land Cruiser. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle acceleration problems. The consumer stated since the purchase date, he encountered a significant and dangerous problem with regard to the accelerator/throttle mechanism. On a sporadic basis, when attempting to accelerate from a low speed to high speed, such as, merging into a traffic lane, there was a lack of response (similar to a stalling sensation). On two occasions, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to identify the problem.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph when the accelerator pedal was depressed and there was friction. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician lubricated the accelerator pedal and stated that the accelerator pedal may need to be replaced. The failure continued to occur after the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified regarding the failure; however, the manufacturer had not returned the contacts call when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 38,940. Updated 10/05/10 the manufacturer and dealer agreeded to replace the pedal. The consumer had to pay $120 of the $560 repair. Updated 10/07/10.

Vehicle stalls and shuts off unexpectedly. When consumer lifts foot from accelerator pedal vehicle just cuts off. Idle control valve faulty, causes engine to shut down or race.
