Fuel tank fracture and leak. A crack in the stamped steel of the upper half of the fuel tank where three faces are bent. Cracks have developed in the originally installed tank, and two subsequent, dealer-supplied fuel tanks over the past 6 months. The leak is sufficient to allow significant dripping/draining of fuel when the tank is full, including puddling underneath the vehicle. Due to the location of the crack, the fuel spills onto the driveshaft (directly opposite the muffler), as well as wicking fuel down the parking break cable towards the back. Inquiry online reveals several other individuals with identical tank fractures/cracks developing.
The fuel tank leaks from a crack potentially formed by stress of fuel and a pressurized system. When full of fuel, the system actively drips and leaks fuel out. Even when not full, there is a vapor smell present. . Read more...
