I was driving down the street, all of a sudden my abs lights came on with a loud hi pitched alarm noise, and when I came up to the next stoplight and pressed on my brakes, there was virtually no brakes so I had to stand on the brake pedal to get the car to stop in time. Fortunately I often pump my brakes so noticed they were not working. I have investigated the issue and have found it is a faulty brake pump accumulator. Upon checking the cost to replace is $2800. Ridiculous. I learned of an extended warranty and many complaints on this issue by searching on the internet. I never received the letter or was notified of this defective part by Toyota.
I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and suddenly my braking system failed. I had no braking and had to use the manual foot brake to slow. Abs light and red triangle came on. I entered into a construction zone so was unable to pull to the shoulder. I restarted my car and drove home without brakes. I took the vehicle to Toyota and spent $2,500 to fix since the warranty on the actuator ended in 2017. This should be recalled and I should be refunded as this is a dangerous risk and is still happening to many 05 Priuses still on the road.
Driving at approximately 35 mph noticed a burning smell. After driving for another 5 minutes an alarm went off and abs warning light came on. The brake actuator on this car has begun to fail. This is common on the 2004 - 2009 Prius. Very expensive to fix. Over $3000 at the dealer. The alarm can be reset and the car driven again leading to a dangerous brake failure while driving.
Brake actuator pump runs constantly and sounds like a barking seal when sitting at a red light. High-pitched warning beep and lack of normal braking ability for the first 30 seconds after start-up. Brake and abs warning lights are active on the dash.
Abs lights stay on; took to dealer. Told actuator problem and brakes could go out at any time but out of warranty and never recalled despite known problem. Cost of repairs nearly exceeds auto value. No accident or injury as yet.
Brake actuator problem on my 2005 Prius. I have this vehicle I have been driving for since October and has always made this noise from the front like a pump running. The car itself did not have an issue until recently the abs light and brakes started acting up. I have found out that Toyota had a warranty enhancement that expired in December this year. I had called a local dealer when I purchased the vehicle to see if there was any kind of recalls and they said none for this vehicle. This part is a known part that fails and when it does it could end up making the car like a run away train with no brakes depending on your speed. I tried contacting Toyota today but got pretty much no where they are saying that I need to bring it to them and pay them 3,000 dollars. The repair is not possible to be made by anyone else without a special scan tool the cars brakes will sometimes go away completely and the pedal becomes stiff and the vehicle will not brake. If there is any other info needed please let me know.
High pitched, steady tone comes on after several minutes of driving at start of driving day and does not stop unless/until brakes are depressed fully for at least 10sec. , which causes tone to stop. Starts up again after several minutes of driving, sometimes less and recycles. Regular braking seems to work, but not abs and abs light, vsc ! lights are continuously on.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that the brake and abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where unknown repairs were performed however, the failure recurred three days later. The contact stated that the brakes malfunctioned and additional pressure to the brake pedal was needed to stop the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 92,000. The VIN was not available.
While cruising at 35 mph, experienced sudden onset of high pitch noise along with the red warning light and abs light being illuminated on console. When attempting to brake, noticed that the brake pedal felt very stiff and not depress. Fortunately, there were no cars in front, and was able to gradually stop the vehicle by pressing on the brake as hard as possible. The braking distance felt a lot further than usual. After coming to a stop and waiting a few minutes, stopped and restarted the engine. The high pitch noise stopped once the engine turned off. Once the engine was back on, the brake pedal felt normal again, and while the abs light was no longer illuminated, the red warning light remained on. Took the car immediately to the Toyota dealer where my car is normally serviced, and they indicated there was a fault code c1300 and recommended replacing the skid control ecu (part# 89540-47130). Looks like there is at least one other incident reported on this (odi id# 10320472). This seems to be a major safety hazard due to potential loss of braking power if this component goes out. Request investigation and safety recall as appropriate.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius. My car has 26,000 miles on it; which is very low mileages. While I was on the highway, my car`s lights on the dashboard starts to flash. The brake system warning light and buzzer comes on along with the abs warning light and the malfunction indicator lamp. I had nowhere to pull aside. After two minutes the warning signs shut off so I kept driving. Five minutes later, all the warning lights come on so I decide to get off the highway to take it to the knoxville Toyota dealer. As I`m exiting the highway, I immediately realized that I had no breaks (when I pressed the brake pedal with my foot it automatically touched the ground)! I remembered that my dad always told me that in case of a brake emergency to pump the paddle until the breaks work. I almost crashed into another car; the exit ramp was very steep. I was going about 50 miles per hr by then; luckily I managed to stop while I kept pumping my breaks. I took it to the dealer right away. They checked my car and replaced: pump assy. Water, super long life c, inverter coolant pump, sliding yoke, reflashed engine and hv ecu and shaft kit. Steeri. I found my case very dangerous and my life was at risk. Not only was my life at risk but as well as other individuals. I would hate for this to happen to someone else! it was scary and I felt like my life might have been over.
