Seven problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 2006 Toyota Prius. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Abs warning light are now on. Feel car is losing break capability. No accident but do not feel confident with the brake capacity. Today I took the car to the dealer and they stated that the abs actuator assembly (code c1391) need to be replace. Looking in the internet and it looks a very common defect for Prius. This is a Prius 2006 with 163. 000 miles. Toyota know about this, extended warranty, but I am out out this extension. But this system should property work for the life of the car.
When driving my 2006 Prius I am unable to stop properly. The brakes go all the way down but it hesitates to stop I get a loud peeping and the abs lights are coming on. I almost hit another car while driving and the brakes are good. I was told that there was a warranty on this vehicle that deals with the abs system. The warranty has expired and Toyota is price gauging to fix it, can someone look into this because it is a safety concern and Toyota knows about this issue but wont work with people to fix it?.
The brake actuator started making frequent noise. The abs warning light and beeps immediately after starting the car. The clanking or humming noise during braking.
I used a uhual tow dolly to move my car about 30 miles. When I turned on the car to remove it from the dolly the vsc, brake & abs lights were on. I confirmed that my abs do not currently work.
Issue relating to Prius brakes. I have a 2006 Prius and have experienced the brake issue ever since I've owned the car. I don't think it is entirely brakes, because I've also experienced it while accelerating and one of the wheels loses traction. I think it is the traction control system / abs. Anyway, I've learned to cope with it, the dropout is only for less than a second, and there's never been an accident (or even near accident) because of it. This latest event was slowing down for a turn and one of the wheels went over a manhole cover. That wheel locked up and the abs light came on, and the brakes cut out and then back in.
I have a 2006 Toyota Prius and for years I've had the same problem described in the news. At times when I drive over bumpy terrain, the car will lurch forward with sudden acceleration and the abs light will come on. I can re-gain control by hitting the brakes hard and/or pumping the brakes depending on the circumstance. This has happened many times since I bought the car new in January 2006. In these circumstances, my foot was off the gas pedal. I'm not sure if the brakes were being applied or not, but if they were, they were applied lightly. This happens regularly.
Lose brakes momentarily when they are applied on an uneven surface such as railroad tracks, pot holes etc. Abs light flashes then braking returns as long as brake pedal stays depressed. This has occurred from the time I bought my car and I thought it was just a function of abs brakes until I saw the description of the 2010 Prius recall.
