Air bag did not deployed at the time of accident. Damaged/rip apart front bumper. . . Car is total loss as per insurance adjuster. Other collided Honda cr-v had all its air bags deployed. None on my Prius. Accident happened at major intersection ,when green light turned on I paddle my car , other car Honda cr-v came at a speed to make left turned and hit my front bumper.
As I was driving 55-65 mph on the highway, the check hybrid system alert came on, and all of a sudden I lost power. I was able to make it home but going up hill it would not go faster than 35 mph, and 40-50 mph on flat ground. This happened on a busy highway where the average speed is 55-65 mph.
While driving back from running errands my car's lights on the dashboard started to come on and noises started to start happening. I was lucky I was only a few streets away from my house so I decided to drive back home. The break was really hard to press. The brake felt like it was a rock and hard to press. I drove with my hazards on unsure of what could happen while driving. There was something wrong and the car started to beep and I was worried the car might fail to brake so I started to drive very slowly. The brakes were so hard to press. I took my car to Toyota the next day and they said there was a defect with my brakes. They had the vehicle for a few days and returned to me saying it was fixed. Needless to say this was a very scary situation to be in. I drive a lot. If I had been further away from my home this would have put me in a very dangerous position. I could've been stranded or drove on the freeway in this condition unsure of what was happening. My car could've stopped braking, I could've gotten into a big accident and injured other drivers around me. This is a very serious issue that should be recalled now and save other drivers! in California people drive up to 80 mph on the highway-if we are behind a car and the brakes malfunction you can imagine what will happen to the driver and anyone involved! when I heard Toyota was not recalling this on all Prius's that might be affected it really scared me. This is unsafe.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Toyota Prius. While operating the vehicle, the check hybrid system warning indicator displayed and the vehicle stalled. Moments later, the vehicle restarted, but the warning indicator remained illuminated. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The cause of the failure was not determined. Fred anderson Toyota (9101 glenwood Ave, raliegh, nc) was notified. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 207,000.
takata recall as I was merging on the highway this morning I got the big warning light on my dash and the engine light along with a message on my screen saying check hybrid system. Ever since my hybrid system shut down and never came back on.
The cars starts does not stay on if I try to drive it will turn off and die out .
I own a 2010 Toyota Prius with 97k and it is immaculate. In March 2019, the instrument cluster (an electronic component in the dashboard containing the gas gauge, speedometer, and gear position) stopped working entirely one day upon starting the car. I researched the issue and it's my understanding that a faulty capacitor on the logic board within the instrument cluster is the culprit. Toyota can replace the instrument cluster but only at my cost and for over $1000. Toyota issued a warranty enhancement notice to extend manufacturer warranty on this instrument cluster problem, but it only applies to 2004-2009 models. This electronic issue had not been entirely resolved by Toyota in later models as many others are faced with the same issue. Am I monetarily responsible for the repair of the instrument cluster? does NHTSA have ongoing support to Prius owners for this issue? should I file a small claims lawsuit?.
I was driving down the highway, I hit the gas pedal to accelerate faster through a light that had just changed from green. As soon as I did that my car lost power and a bunch of emergency lights came on, I immediately got on the shoulder. No one was behind me otherwise I would've been in a wreck. I turned the car off and on again and the emergency lights were still there. I was able to drive up to about 10 miles an hour a few blocks to a parking lot. I had the car towed to the Toyota dealership and they told me it was my inverter that over heated and needed to be replaced.
When you turn headlights on the dashboard light go black can't see any things o it.
While the vehicle was in motion, the engine started shaking, the steering and brakes locked up and the engine ceased up as the car shut off. Got error code p3190 for poor engine power, and then a day later everything was normal. This is the 2nd time this has happened while driving, the first time was in a 2002 Prius.
Prius anti lock system.
Vehicle stall when hybrid system kicks in and shake, very dangerous considering the car is quiet.
The headlights on my car would get very dim and would burnout within 4 to 6 months. As time has past the time between bulb replacement would get shorter and shorter. At this point when I plug replacement bulbs into my car the burnout instantly. Without low beam headlights I am required to drive with my high beams on at all times. The dealer and the manufacture know about the problem and there was a notification regarding this issue with the headlights, but I was not sent this notice. Had I been sent the notice from Toyota I would have brought my car into the dealership for them to inspect the light problem. From what I have learned from Toyota is that there was never a recall on this issue. Headlights on a car I would think would be considered a major safety feature and should not have an expiration date on such a repair issue. The program to fix the issue was called customer support program zhb which allowed the dealers to correct the problem. How would anyone know that there was a problem unless they get a notification.
My vehicle abruptly slowed down on illinois highway 94 south bound at 33 exit at 2:00pm August 10. Fortunately I was in right lane, which had a slight slope that allowed me to drive my car to the service lane. Afterwards, I tried to start my car without any success. I called my car insurance agent on 2:11pm to tow my car to my mechanic. Their diagnosis was a problem with the inverter/converter. My vehicle was towed again to the Toyota dealer because this problem was in recall.
My brakes recently stopped working as they normally do (you had to press extremely hard on the pedal to get it to stop) and several lights came on the dashboard. Prior to this the car was making a very strange noise when you start to push on the brakes. Not like a typical squeaky brake sound. I took it to Toyota and they gave me a quote for $3,700 stating that I needed a new brake cylinder assembly. I discovered a recall for 2010 Prius for the exact diagnostic code and they said my Prius was not covered by the recall. When you "reboot" the computer on the Prius, the lights and brake problem go away. This appears to be a significant problem with the 2010 Prius from what I have read on-line and Toyota is not acknowledging it. It's also a very costly repair that seems to be easily fixed when you reboot the computer on the car. What is going on? how many people are paying Toyota for this fix that appears to be a wide problem with the vehicle that should not be happening?.
While driving our 2010 Toyota Prius ii on the interstate we began noticing a burning smell. Then, the abs light illuminated on the dashboard. We pulled onto an off ramp and as we slowed the vehicle down smoke began coming from under the hood. We drove very slowly down the road and the smoke became more prevalent. We turned on a side street and my husband put the vehicle in park, got out, walked to the front, and noticed that the passenger front head lamp was melted and there was a flame. We quickly got our family out of the car (2 kids in carseats in the back). We moved away from the vehicle and the flames become larger and larger. We called 911 and the hood was engulfed in flames by the time the firefighters arrived. They were able to put the fire out quickly, so it did not spread into the front cabin or rear of the vehicle. We had not had any recent work done and the vehicle was fully operational until the time of the fire. We had not been experiencing any problems prior to this incident.
The other day my brake light, traction, and abs light came on. Took it to the mechanic and they said it's code c1391 - abnormal leak in the accumilator, electrical issue, and I must go to the dealer. I've seen others complain about this. Shouldn't this be a recall?.
The vehicle was having issue with the steering locked up when turning with motion about 20+mph. The hybrid system is not as advertised the 50mpg in any way as it only gets average about 35mpg. The vehicle has 87000 miles and the old symptoms from second generation followed suit with it. The dash went totally off when weather is cold and suddenly turned back on when it gets warm. I had driven a few miles without the dash on and it was a bad experience since I cannot figure out the speed or what is going on. The steering is the major issue as we dare not to drive the car and the technicians from the dealer said nothing wrong with the vehicle but third party technicians recommend to take to Toyota for recall. U turns are the worse that locked the steering and the car almost come to a stop with beeping alarms.
While driving on the highway, the instrument panel cluster on our 2010 Prius went out and we were without a functioning speedometer or gas gauge for the remainder of the drive. This problem has happened to many other 2010 Prius vehicles and Toyota refuses to warranty this extremely costly repair, which causes many drivers to use their vehicles without a speedometer for extended periods of time.
Our Prius has been losing power. It has 68k miles and we are the original owners. Driving at hwy speeds we noticed we have to push hard down on the gas just to get the car to maintain highway speeds. Hills are even worse. We are also still waiting on the parts to fix our headlights. Over the years I have changed the low beam bulbs at least 6 times! when are the parts coming?.

We were driving on the highway at about 70 miles per hour when the reading lights and dashboard flashed on and then off in a matter of about 5 seconds. The dash showed a triangle indicator light with an exclamation point. The dash also seemed to reset and showed the display as is the car had just been turned on. This incident happened twice within a 4 hour period. Once on the highway and once on a back road going about 40 mph. The car did not stop either time, but it is still concerning.
I had a sudden loss of power with a popping sound. The failure nearly caused an accident because I was turning into a traffic lane. This left me stalled in that lane of traffic. The failure turned out to be the inverter over heating was caused by the cooling pump in the inverter failing, which caused the inverter to overheat. This was not covered by warranty and was a very expensive repair. I chose not to have the dealer repair it at their extreme prices. I paid the dealer to diagnose the problem. Then I had greentec in olathe KS. Repair the system at 1/2 the cost that the dealer wanted.
Rodent damage to wires on main harness. Perhaps due to soy-based wire coatings? also rodent damage in ac intake and evaporator core. Car was parked.
I was driving on the freeway at about 70 mph when the "check hybrid system" light came on and the car lost all power and ability to accelerate. It completely began to descend in speed and within 2 minutes came to a complete shut down. I could have easily been rear ended had I not moved to the side of the freeway as quickly as I did.
Airbag warning light illuminates. Toyota service techie's diagnostic showed a disconnected spiral cable. Techie explained that the spiral cable has electrical connections to the driver's airbag module and the driver's air bag would not deploy in an accident. He said I should install a new cable spiral assembly kit (aka "clock spring"), part # 8430747020 at a cost of nearly $1000, including over $700 for the part. I did some research. Part # 8430747020 was installed in many Toyota vehicles, and has been recalled for the same problem in the corolla, matrix, highlander, tacoma, rav4, and yaris. See safety recall e0m (e1m) April 2015, update 5/12/14. The Prius is not mentioned in the recall, although my car has the same exact problem with the identical part, and the Toyota service supervisor agrees it is the same problem and part. I explained this to the service technician and supervisor, who called Toyota, and Toyota offered to cover 50% of the cost of the part, and none of the labor cost. I asked whether they could do the same fix in my car as they do on the recalled vehicles, namely installing part # 04004-07122, and they declined. See technical instructions for safety recall e0m spiral cable replacement. Toyota should be recalling my car and fixing this problem at their expense, not just reducing the cost of the part. Second, they should not be replacing this defective part with the same defective part. They should do a fix that will last. I assume the fix they've done on all other vehicles, with part # 04004-07122, would work for my Prius. They refuse. Fyi- the airbag light has been on and off for years, and seen by Toyota during that period. This particular problem was diagnosed may 1, 2017. They believe the previous airbag warning lights were unrelated to this particular issue.
I've had two Toyota Prius in my lifetime, a 2005 and a 2010 Toyota Prius, both have had the same issue where the engine would eat up all of my oil, I would have an oil change done and less than 2 weeks later I would have to check the oil gauge rod and find that the oil levels were below the bottom line, almost empty! the engine would be burning oil at such an alarming rate that I would repeatedly bring the vehicle to Toyota for oil changes. I'm very unsatisfied with my Toyota Priuses. My car is currently at 166,384 miles and the engine cylinder has now given way and also the hybrid battery. I've gone only to Toyota dealerships to have pristine consecutive service and no third party repair facilities have provided service. I am located in souther California in san diego. I have spoken to many other Toyota Prius owners and if you do a google search online as of (04/10/17) "Toyota Prius engine oil consumption" you'll find many forums with "excessive consumption" from many other users. Once you reach past the 140,000 mile mark, your car is pretty much done. Consider buying a new one. Toyota Priuses and their engineers have to come up with a way to satisfy current and future Prius owners as many of us will find that there will be many problems and issues down the road.
A warning light came on for eps and 30 seconds later it stalled and would not steer or move. I was driving at 6pm on a Friday in major traffic.
Vehicles low beam lights on driver and passenger side extremely dim for more than six months of driving and when stationary. High beam lights working properly on driver and passenger lights as well as parking and brake lights. All interior lights work properly. I press car's ignition button while pressing down on brake and the car's indicator symbols flash to the display but do not disappear. When it does this I cannot release the car from park mode leaving me unable to use reverse or drive. Dealer examined car to explain that bulbs working properly however the housing for the low beam lights need replacing.
Both front driver and passenger door motors have went out. Thus happened last year and after further reading it is a common problem with all them. We only have 65,000 miles on this car.
On September 10, 2016, while we are driving back to indianapolis from chicago, the left dash screen became dysfunctional and went completely blank. There is no indication of the speed, the amount of gas in the tank, and the condition of the engine. We did not feel safe at all on the way home. On September 13, 2016, we took our vehicle to butler Toyota where we purchased it for a checkup. After the diagnostic, the service department advised me that the combination meter was out completely. This combination meter must be replaced to restore the reading on the dash board. They told me that this unit is not under warranty, and I must pay $1,698. 42 (tax not included) for this replacement (see attached). This combination meter is a critical safety tool to monitor the driving mechanisms, the condition of vehicle, and when the driver should refill their fuel tank. To resolve the problem, I would appreciate your consideration of this work as a faulty product and should be replaced without cost to the customer. Enclosed is a copy of service from butler Toyota.
Speedometer and gas meter electronic display no longer works. It stopped once it was in motion and has not turned back on. Took to dealership and it is not a fuse. Entire digital display panel would have to be replaced. There was a recall for this exact issue up until the 2009 Toyota Prius models. Car was reviewed at red mccombs Toyota, san antonio TX i10-w.
Low beam headlamp bulbs fail repeatedly in less than 6 months. This happens regardless of bulb brand or model. I have had these professionally installed at multiple shops. Happens on both sides, but the latest is on driver side.
I have driven people for a living for over 30 years. I bought a Prius because of fuel costs. A month ago while transporting passengers, my power brakes go out and my dash lights up with abs, brake, & traction control warning lights. I take it to the Toyota dealer who charges me $111 to tell me I have a brake problem and that it will cost $4418 to fix it. Code # c1391; they recommend replacing the master cylinder; and booster pump assembly saying there is an abnormal leak down of the brake accumulator. This is insane. I cannot afford to fix it and must continue to work to live; therefore driving about 200 miles/day with hydraulic only brakes. My research indicates there was a major recall for this exact problem on the 2010 model. The dealership and Toyota corporate both say my vehicle was not part of the recall. I feel as though it should be since, obviously, the problem has not been solved. I am not alone, as many owners on Priuschat have the same problem. This is a major safety concern to not only myself, other vehicles or pedestrians, but also my passengers. An expanded recall is necessary and warranted. Anything you can do will help and make us all safer. .
On 05/25/2016 at about 9am, while in motion at a rate of speed approx 25 mph on a street during construction (don't know if the bumpy road had anything to do with it), the change oil soon light appeared and seconds later all the lights on the dash came on with the message to check the "check hybrid system" . I tried to stop the vehicle and it kept accelerating. I pressed on the breaks really hard and the traction control light kept flashing on and off like crazy but it barely had any impact. Although the vehicle slowed, it did not come to a full stop. I ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. Thank god it was a truck and as able to stop the car from moving further or I could of ended up in the middle of an intersection. After the collision, the car would not stop although the park button was pressed and light was on. I even tried turning off the vehicle and the vehicle stayed on and in drive. I ended up in the hospital and don't know how it eventually got turned off but that was very frightening. I had my children in the car. On impact, the seat belts did not even tighten.
