Toyota issued a customer support program zjb for extended coverage of the brake booster and actuator assembly (this notice was not sent to the correct address the car was registered to with the dmv in 2019 so I never received the notice for this program) the Toyota program length was for 10 years or 150k miles. My car’s part just failed at 129k which is far below the 150k threshold. Despite being outside the 10 year window I am still under the mileage, the car is in perfect condition and this car is used for work for uber. The malfunction of the Toyota part in my car is a critical safety issue and because it is outside of the program Toyota refused to provide any goodwill assistance.
Our trac abs and brake lights came on and braking became more difficult but not totally gone. I took it to my mechanic (not Toyota dealer) and he said the codes were going off for the abs hydraulic system and it would be $3000 to fix! this is unacceptable. I feel like my safety is affected but no one else has been hurt yet. I’m trying to be proactive. They first appeared last month. No manufacturer, insurance agent or cop has inspected it. It can be inspected by appt. Please help.
Driving yesterday on residential street, I gently applied my brakes to stop for a red light. The brakes did not stop the car; pumping the brakes did not help. Dashboard illuminated skidding car diagram, and brake light went on. I took my foot off the gas, rode somewhat on the shoulder, and slowly found a place to park the car. Had to have it towed. No prior warning that the brakes would fail. Dealership advised it was a leak in the brake booster pump or actuator. Later learned that there had been a class action lawsuit dealing with this issue. Also that Toyota had extended the warranty when this happened frequently. I never got a recall notice about this. My car is a 2011 Prius with 59,000 miles. The extended warranty only went to 10 years, and mine is 11 years old, but I haven't seen anyone else in the chat boxes who had such a low mileage as mine. Thankfully neither I nor anyone was injured. But this is definitely a major safety issue and a very expensive repair. Over $3,000. What recourse do I have?.
Abs, brakes, traction control lights, and ! illuminated while driving car is under 150,000 miles. Took to an autoshop, gerald's tires and brakes: was told mastercylinder, booster, accumulator need to be replaced.
Ermias g yohannes 10634 whiterock CT laurel, MD 20723.
My safety can be affected because Toyota neglected to screen all openings of the car, I now have mouse or rat poop and saw some urine stains. The manufacturing system has failed for this 81 year old.
I purchased a 2011 Prius 4 years ago from a dealership. For the last 2 years, whenever I drive the car, the abs, brake, and skid lights are on. Also, there's a slightly whirring noise every few seconds from under the hood. Braking has been affected, and I've had to increase my stopping distance as a result. Also, the brake pads and rotors deteriorate faster. Apparently, this is a common problem with this type of car. I've called Toyota, and despite it being a known flaw with this car, they refuse to do anything about it.
While driving at roughly 58mph, while going around a turn: multiple dashboard lights came on, tire pressure, traction control, emergency brake, one other. My brakes became less responsive (roughly half braking strength). This is consistent with the pseudo recall offered by Toyota covering my vehicle for a limited time, for which no notice was given and no warnings were sent. This issue has caused over five dozen crashes and during the duration of the recall, vehicles were not eligible until the braking system had failed. There were no signs of the faulty part until after the extended warranty period had expired, but the issue is the warrantied part, and the failure is consistent with the failure caused by the manufacturing defect responsible for the extended warranty effective in 2017.
When I was about to exit while driving on freeway, myabs, brake, tcs light is suddenly on, the brake need power to push and regenerate charger not working when brake pedal push, and make mpg drop.
Automobile continued to accelerate and even speed up with foot on the brakes. While stopped, waiting to turn, car would still accelerate, even speed up, into on-going traffic. This has been happening since I purchased the auto, but is now happening more frequently and for longer periods. Never reported because it only happened for a brief moment. However, in the last week this happened twice and I couldn't control the auto. Waiting for call back from dealer.
Although Toyota issued a recall notice in October of 2018 for our 2011 Prius, the affected part was not available and the letter stated we would be notified when the repair could be made. On Feb. 5 our check hybrid system warning came on and the car was difficult to drive with diminished acceleration/power--certainly a safety issue in our area's heavy traffic. The auto nation Toyota ft myers, FL dealership said the car should be driven in to the service dept. (but told my husband once it was there, it was no longer safe to operate) and it would be checked and then "graciously" said the inverter system would be replaced at no cost (approx. $3800) to us as Toyota opted to "extend the warranty". This should have been replaced in October when initially notified and before it failed and became a safety issue and before we were told to "drive it to the dealership". I am very disappointed in Toyota and I worry about other Prius drivers still on the road.
The following dashboard lights came on on our vehicle at the same time:traction mode, emergency brake, abs, and brake system warning light. Since the lights have came on, I have noticed that I have to press down further down on the brake to stop the vehicle. My stopping distance is further now as well.
Takata recall my 16 year old daughter has this car with a major safety recall and no apparent fix! not happy and not feeling safe with her driving it now. It has stalled out once so far on a backroad.
Toyota after 2 months has not resolved this issue/recall. Since that I have to stop to share my car on turo and I'll have a lost of income. I'm asking for a compensation.
Horn does not work when wheels are straight. Horn works when wheels are turned completely left only. I believe it is the spiral cable assembly. Toyota wants $1,093. 00 to repair this problem. Other Toyota vehicles have placed a recall on this issue. This issue should be recalled on this vehicle. Have researched this safety problem on other Prius vehicles and many others have had the same horn problems. Affected models: 2009-2010 corolla 2009-2010 corolla matrix 2008-2010 highlander 2009-2010 tacoma 2006-2008 rav4 2006-2010 yaris.
Horn stopped working. Only works when steering wheel is turned left or right. Forums have posted that it could be the spiral cable from other vehicle owners. This replacement is over $1,000.
When hitting the interstate massively lost power while trying to accelerate. All cluster of lights came on and stayed on dash including check hybrid system. Plz contact as soon as possible.
On November 4, during a routine maintenance appointment, it was discovered that our Prius is completely invaded with mice, from where the wind sheild meets the dashboard, all the way through the entire car - between the visible interior and the metal frame - to the rear hatch door latch. We learned that Toyota is well aware of this problem, due to how it is designed, which greatly allows for rodents to enter the car's cabin and trunk area via the heater box and cabin filter area. This is a particular health hazard. . . . A significant one. To remedy the issue the service department had to literally strip the entire interior of the car down to the metal, from windshield to trunk latch. Every thing had to be taken out, several parts replaced (including the carpet which was damaged on the underside), or cleaned and reinstalled. This costs thousands of dollars and over a month of time. I have invoices and statements but do not know how to convey those to you, based on the instructions given.
Driver side door lock failed and shortly thereafter the front passenger door lock also failed. We have owned a total of five Prius vehicles since 2007 and have never experienced this problem before this dual failure. Judging from the number of complaints on this site and info gathered during internet research it appears this is a widespread problem, most likely due to poor quality or defective door lock actuators. A google search (Toyota Prius "door lock" failure) resulted in a quarter million results.
2011 Toyota Prius 3. ( most models 2010-2014) engineering design flaw allows mice to easily access inside of the vehicle through air system. When mice are present while driving this creates a driving distraction that can lead to an accident or death. Toyota corp refuses to acknowledge the problem, but the dealership does field complaints but will not act because Toyota refuses to acknowledge the problem an order a bulletin . I have photos and solution to issue, however several others may be unaware of the issue a simple google search will result in additional findings. I myself am a victim of the design flaw and nearly resulted in a car accident. Without being dramatic- this is truly a issue that needs to be reviewed seriously. I cant provide more details if needed. I'm not looking to gain money, media attention or anything else other than there is truly an issue and I want others to be safe. Its heartbreaking to look in the rear view mirror to see a 15 month old baby screaming because a mouse is running across her body and another mouse is running across the back seat and then the floor board under your feet while trying to pull over with no road shoulder.
Left car running the night before. Didn't know it. Locked car that evening. Battery dead next day. Shouldn't there have been a warning when I locked car, that car was not off?.
Got hit on the front left side of veh. Not at fault and I believe the other party might have provided false papers. But the reason for the complaint is my airbags didnt deploy??? front bumper cover bumper and radi. Had damages. In my nonenexpert opinion enough to cause it to eeploy.
I have a 2011 Prius, and it failed Toyota's oil consumption test twice, around 110,000 miles. It consumes oil way so quickly that I have to add oil 2-3 times between scheduled oil changes. Bob smith Toyota (la crescenta, CA) performed the test per Toyota's instructions and acknowledged the problem but did not take any measures to remedy the problem. There are hundreds of thousands of 2010-2012 Toyota Prius owners who purchased this vehicle on the premise of being a "eco friendly hybrid" Toyota is clearly negligent and after having an attorney draft letter to Toyota they still will not accept any responsbility.
The instrument display is to dim to read in bright sunlight, especially when driving directly toward the afternoon sun on a clear day. My wife, who viewed the display as a front-seat passenger, agrees with me. To see how fast I was going, I had to take my eyes off the road and allow my eyes to adjust to the darkened display for several seconds. As a result, I was unable to maintain a steady speed on the hilly terrain. Despite my best efforts, my speed varied erratically between 70 and 80, more or less, on an interstate with a speed limit was 75. Despite my general misgivings about cruise control, I finally had to resort to it to steady my speed. The incident above was my worst experience, but viewing the display in bright sunlight has been an ongoing problem since the vehicle was new. Moreover, this was also a problem with a 2005 Prius which we previously owned. This is a genuine safety hazard! the two vehicles mentioned above, at least, and possibly other Toyota vehicles, need to be retrofitted with a display that can be readily seen in bright sunlight, but which can be adequately dimmed for night driving.
While pulling into a parking slot in a parking lot, which was on a slope, I applied the foot brake without any response whatsoever. The vehicle gained enough speed to jump the small stop-curb and hit a concrete wall next to it. The damage to the front of the car was just over $4000. I thought I had missed the pedal. On June 12th and 15th, I had two more incidents of the brake pedal going aloo the way to the floor while either at slow speed or stopped. My dealer says it was a problem on the 2010, but he has not seen it on a 2011. My wife now refuses to drive the car.
On two separate occasions in December of 2013, with two different drivers, the brakes on our 2011 model year Prius (purchased new in February 2012), failed to engage. The first time occured when I was driving (with one of my teenagers in the car with me), and the second time occured when my wife was drving the car alone. In both instance we pressed the brake pedal, but the brakes failed to respond at all. Although it is winter, the roads were clear, and the car did not slow down at all when the brakes were pressed / applied. Interestingly, after 30 - 60 seconds, the brake function restored itself. Since December the car has been at the shop at the Toyota dealership where we purchased the car. The shop has been unable to identify the source of the problem. Additionally, the shop indicated they contacted Toyota mechanics and service support staff to help identify and fix the problem, but Toyota claimed they never heard of such a problem or anything like it. Moreover, Toyota refuses to make any repairs or change any parts (even though the car is still under warranty). Yet, this past Wednesday (February 12, 2014), Toyota announced a recall on rav4's and other models for a software problem that causes the anti-brakes to intermittently turn off. This is particularly troubling, given Toyota's claim that they never heard of anything like this and did not know what to fix. Further, Toyota announced a recall on the Prius itself, for a software problem that might cause the car to turn off completely while driving. Clearly, Toyota has a problem with its software in a number of vehicles. At this point, all I have received is corporate double talk, and I urge the NHTSA to pursue this matter as vigorously as possible.
Security and safety threat in 2011 Toyota Prius due to power locks failing. Actuator in the automatic door locks is defective and fails very early in the auto's life. Front passenger door lock failed sept 2013. Front driver door lock failed Feb 2014. Rear driver side door lock failed sept 2014. Toyota charges $500 per door to fix, despite the fact that this security and safety risk is obviously caused by the use of cheap, defective parts used to manufacture the 2011 Prius.
The door locks on a good portion of Toyota Prius fail leaving the both the car and it's occupants unprotected. It is mostly the front door locks. Toyota refuses to check into the problem. They want over $400 per door lock to fix it. I feel that it is both an inconvenience and a safety hazard since they will not open with the remote or the metal key. The only way to unlock is to enter through the back seat of the car and reach forward to the front door.
New 2011 Prius ii delivered by jaffarian Toyota without floor mat securing device installed. Floor mat not being secured could cause interference with pedals.
