Entering the highway the car suddenly learched and stopped excelerating, creating an unsafe situation, and went into a slow mode. It limped along. Caused cars issue around having to slow merge and driving only 10-15 miles per hour. The dealer could find no codes and said it could be an air bubble in fluid line??? no warning lights.
The 2013 pruis has developed the notorious brake booster fault triggering the brake light abs light and traction control light to stay illuminated. Toyota has many complaints about this brake booster issue and needs to recall and fix this issue as they have done on other Toyotas. This is leaving owners with a $2500 repair or having to take a big risk driving these cars with a big prevalent brake issue that Toyota needs to be held accountable for.
Took vehicle for state inspection on 2/13/2024, failed inspection because of brake warning lights. Slip indicator, electronically controlled brake warning light, brake warning light, anti-lock brake system, and low tire pressure lights are all on. I have looked into it, and it seems the brake actuator/booster used to be under warranty, however since this is a 2013 in 2024 with almost 210k miles on it, it no longer qualifies for the original recall.
Abs , brake. Anti lock lights.
I was going on my way to work on the freeway at approximately 65 miles per hour, suddenly I felt as if my car shut off will driving and I lost power. I pressed on the gas pedal as I was pulled into the emergency lane to the right of the freeway, the gas pedal did not work. I pulled to the side and I shut the car off. I waited about 20 minutes and I turned the car back on.
My 2013 Prius' hybrid system failed as I was entering a very busy state highway (where several fatalities have been recorded) exit when a tractor trailer truck unexpectedly bore down on me. My engine reduced to half speed and there was no breakdown lane to pull over to. The dashboard lights lit up and indicated a hybrid system failure, but I could not get to safety for another 2-3 miles. This is an NHTSA recall (20v-369) that was eligible for repair under an expanded warranty, but only after the vehicle has experienced the shutdown. The ipm (intelligent power module/hybrid) system breakdown was confirmed by Toyota dealership's diagnostics, but the warranty period was not told to me and the charges amounted to almost $3000. My research and doggedness discovered that the costs would be covered in toto. But more importantly, I am among numerous Prius owners who experienced this problem and more could occur, risking injury if not death.
I was driving on the highway the other day and my 2013 Prius and all of a sudden I felt a pop and I had no gas by the grace of god I was able to pull over and not get killed I called for roadside assistance I did have power I did have steering but there was no gas upon checking at my Toyota dealer they said the piston had gone straight through the engine and I needed a new engine and that it was probably due to abuse of oil and lack of oil changes I googled and saw that this was a known problem and I'm actually a doctor and have seven children and I did change my oil and I had no warning light.
The car gave a triangle of death and looked it up if any recalls had been made that could possible cause this issue and there was 1 that called for an update to the system which I had done and they had told me if it didn't take they would have to do the invertor which was apart of the recall. A week after the system update the same issue arose and they refused to replace the invertor which drained the hybrid battery and ruined it also . This effects the driving ability and causes the car to shut down the lights to not work . It can stale at any given time and will not have power to continue.
Today, 9/11/2019. I was driving on highway 405, my car was going at highway speed around 65. Suddenly there was a beep sound and my engine light turn on. My vehicle went into the "limp home" mode, the car would not accelerate. Then the car red light was on, and the speedometer went off and the engine shuts off. Luckily I was driving on the slow lane as I was planning to exit the highway in a mile distance. My vehicle would not respond to the acceleration pedal at all, so I put on the emergency flashing light up and slowly row out toward the exit. This is the third time happened to me, within the last 30 days. Two incident happened on highway and one happened on local road. The first time was also on highway with similar experience. I am lucky to be alive. I have brought my vehicle in to the Toyota dealer maintenance 5 days ago, 9/13/2019, where they claimed they have checked everything and told me the vehicle was fine after charging me $150 analyze fee. The vehicle is obviously not fine and I could have been killed on highway. The picture provided was the day before I brought my car in to the Toyota dealer.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph the driver pressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle but the vehicle accelerated forward and crashed into a second vehicle. During the crash the driver sustained multiple contusions to the body including the chest area which required medical treatment. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A police report(159681-2019) was taken at the scene. The local dealer Toyota of richardson(1221 n. Central expy. Richardson TX. ) the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000. Jft.
I received the recall notice and to prevent an accident, I have not been driving my car. My nearest dealship, whom I have utilized often, now are discriminating by stating false personal statements against me. This may be gender, age or racist based. So I need support to have my car towed & have hamer Toyota fairly & professionally complete the safety recall repairs. I have been at the dealship and on the phone with all levels of employees who have belittled, made false statements and/ or just plain inhumane with no remedy for my 2013 Toyota Prius.
Around 2:00 am on fwy 101 north/south division point, car suddenly lost its power and accelerator stopped working and stopped in the curving area on fastest lanes. I turned my key on/off for 5 times lights on the panel was on but accelerator was not working at all for 30 min so I called police and aaa towing. When finally aaa came and talking on the phone, the car started to accelerated again. It was very dangerous situation as my car was forced to park on the fastest lane on the curving area at 2:00am and many trucks and cars were driving 90 miles/hour. 4-5 cars were yelling at me "it is very dangerous to park your car right here !" and some male drivers offered me for help but I told them that I was waiting for police (as I was more afraid to get a help from strangers. ) this incident could cause a very serious injuries or death. Next day, I took my car to Toyota northledge but they said there was no problem of this car. I read the "recall" of Toyota Prius 2010-2014 about inverter problem which cause the power failure but tim/service manger told me that "your VIN # is not covered with this issue. " therefore, he can not do anything about it.
My car has a problem with the radar control. It has failed multiply times on the freeway when I had it in cruise. The problem is that a "beep beep goes off and then the car slows down for no apparent reason. This has happened mostly in wet weather but has failed many times. With no one in from of me. I had it in to Toyota and then spent the whole day going over the car. They said there is nothing wrong with the car but maybe not use the cruise. They would not sent me a letter to the fact that they did not find anything wrong. It took me 3 to 4 days of calling and faxing to get this info. Now the insurance company is telling me that before I bought this supposable new car in 2015 with only 8,000 miles on it that it has been wrecked or in 2 accidents before I bought it. I believe that there is something seriously wrong with it and it is a danger to drive it. Can you help me. I can not supply you with any data other than my permission fax that I sent Toyota to go through my car. My son drove the car or I am not the only one that witness this occurrence.
My 2013 Toyota Prius occasionally experiences delays in acceleration and abnormal hybrid function. The dealership says they can't do anything because there are no lights on the dashboard. Corporate Toyota doesn't seem to care. I asked if I had to get into an accident before this became an issue. An extra second of unexpected inability to move my car can be very dangerous in my opinion. So when I pull out of a parking lot onto a street with my foot on the gas pedal there will sometimes an additional second or so before the car started to moves and at a slower than normal pace. I know Priuses don't move fast but it is silly slow.
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius v. While the vehicle was parked, it lunged forward and crashed into another vehicle and a chain linked fence. The vehicle was placed in neutral; however, the vehicle reversed and crashed into another section of the fence. The contact also stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact stated that the start/stop button was being depressed at the time and failed to operate normally. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Driver pulled into parking stall. Foot on brake at curb. Pushed the "p" button for park function on dash board. The car reved and lurched over the curb toward the building. Driver continued to press brake pedal and swerved to avoid the building, yet scraped the side with side panel and running over tw0 recently planted trees. The car continued lurching for approximately 30-40 feet, back off of the curb, past to two parked cars (which sustained no damage). The car finally came to a rest on its own. The engine was still running until the "start/off" button was depressed.
2013 Prius c two, bought brand new with 15 miles on it 5 weeks ago. A few times when driving, I noticed the brakes seemed weak, like they weren't stopping the car very well even at low speeds. My driving is mostly in town on residential streets, so I'm rarely going over 35 mph. Even so, I'd have to really mash the pedal all the way to the floor to get the car to come to a complete stop, otherwise it would keep moving forward. Several times I ended up about 5-10 feet past the line, sticking the front bumper into cross traffic. Luckily no one hit me. I chalked it up to the quirks of a different car than the one I was used to, and figured if it kept happening I'd take it to the dealership. On Monday, my wife was stopped at a red light. The light turned green and the car in front of her started to move forward. After a few hundred feet, he suddenly slammed on his brakes. She said her brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and the Prius didn't slow down at all. She hit him going about 25 mph and totaled the Prius. She's an excellent driver and I've been with her before when she's had to panic-stop. She's never driven a car without abs, so she is used to pushing the pedal hard and keeping her foot on it. She wouldn't even know how to "pump" the pedal. She swears the pedal just went all the way to the floor and the car didn't slow down at all. Thankfully, she's okay and no one was injured.
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brakes failed. The vehicle accelerated abnormally, traveled over a sidewalk and then over the steps of the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the problem. The contact stated that the acceleration failure was recurring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 7,500. Updated 01/08/lj the consumer stated the dealer went far beyond, what they had to do, to make sure she was taken care of. However, Toyota corporation was less than helpful. Update 01/09/13.
This vehicle attempts to go 8 mph with the accelerator pedal not depressed at all. It does this any time the car is "on", even if it is in reverse. The brake must be applied to stop the car. Even when the brake is pressed, the computer will apply power to the wheels, which results in the brake having to fight against the motors. Sometimes the car can lurch slightly, and once it hit a curb unexpectedly causing damage to front plastic parts. If you are stopped at a red lite, you must apply the brake otherwise it will crash into the car in front of you on its own. This behavior is dangerous and very annoying. One mechanic I spoke to at the dealer said this is normal. It seems senseless and should not be normal. I ask Toyota to fix the minor damage to my car and fix this problem.
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a wooden staircase. The contact then shifted into reverse and the vehicle accelerated independently in reverse, coming to a stop in the street. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. An engineer was dispatched to inspect the vehicle. The results were mailed to the contact, stating that there was no cause for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 899.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Toyota Prius. The contact stated while traveling 40 mph the contact pressed on the brake pedal, and the accelerator increased in speed. The vehicle resumed to its normal speed of 40 mph after the brake pedal was pressed again. The vehicle increased speed after the contact pressed the brake again. As a result, an accident occurred. A police report was filed. The failure occurred on 3 separate occasions. The manufacture was notified did not offer a remedy. The private mechanic diagnosed the failure as delay in braking system. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 13,500.
