1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2026

8/2025 car stalled on freeway. Went to dealer. They said nothing wrong. Then on a trip north, car stalled again on freeway. Went to the nearest dealer. They too said nothing wrong. This time same thing. There is a recall for the exact symptoms of the exact car yet they say the repair was done. Why does my VIN not qualify for the exact symptoms that generated a recall? this was super dangerous at freeway speed. Toyota knows there is a problem with the inverter and it's computer. Now I'm paying again for a diagnosis. That makes $750 just diagnosing and now if they actually decide it is the inverter, I have to pay upwards of $3000 even though there is a recall? what the heck?.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

Cruise control not working. Traction control light active, brake light active, and light active the cause was diagnosed by Toyota of paris. TSB for c1391 code abnormal leak in accumulator. The corrective action is to replace brake booster assembly with master cylinder and brake booster pump assembly.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2024

Car was diagnosed at a Toyota dealership with a brake booster issue reading code 20te07 after my vehicles brakes suddenly would not work and the car continued to jolt forward. The brakes wouldn’t stop the car. According to Toyota, my vehicle is three months outside of the warranty period but under the covered mileage so we are left to repair this defect ourselves. This was a very dangerous situation and could have cost us and our children our lives instead of just the $4800 repair cost. This has happened to both of our Prius’s so this is not a rare issue. Toyota needs to have a plan for these parts failing suddenly and they should all be recalled for safety in my opinion. The experience was very scary and we had zero control over the vehicle when the brakes suddenly went out. Where do I join the class action lawsuit?.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2021

Brake failure / unintended acceleration / unknown cause driving at approx 25mph on urban street (road in good condition no potholes, ramps, etc) I began to slowly brake as I approached a red traffic light. Instead of braking, the car began to accelerate quickly. I pressed the brake pedal again - no response. Pressed down hard for a third time which executed an emergency stop. This all happened within 1 or 2 secs. There were no injuries or involvement of other cars on this occasion. However, had I been any closer to the car in front, I believe I would have rear-ended it. Had this occurred a few moments later, at the busy junction 400m ahead, it could have been fatal. I am absolutely sure it was not driver error. I was not distracted, drive regularly, and have been a confident and safe driver for over 30yrs. I have never experienced this in a car before, and in fact wasn't aware that it could happen until I researched it on this site. No warning lights or indicators came on. The car ran normally for the remaining 2 miles back home. I didn't think anything of it before, but prior to this incident (in our 7 yrs ownership) there were approx. 5 instances when the engine would "roar" as if it wanted to accelerate but didn't when I was breaking or slowing down on a highway. Also, there were perhaps 3 instances when the car felt as though it was "running away" I. E. A slight acceleration - for no obvious reason. As neither of these represented safety issues, I assumed the car was just a bit old and these issues would be addressed as part of any service. Now I wonder if they are related to the sudden acceleration. The car is currently having a "health checks" run, but nothing has been found. I am reluctant to drive this vehicle if neither my dealer or Toyota can discern the problem. Overall we have been happy with this car and its performance, but this is an unacceptable "anomaly" as far as safety is concerned. Vehicle available for inspection.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2020

I turned on my vehicle and when I switched gears, from park to drive, it did not register that it was in drive. When I tried to drive away, there was no acceleration and lack of power. My battery was operating at almost max capacity.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Prius v. While pulling into the driveway at 5 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into the garage door. The failure occurred without warning. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The front end of the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was in the process of being repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

The Prius vehicles covered only by warranty enhancement zjb are suffering the same dangers from brake booster pump failures as those Toyota covered safety recalls d0h and k0l. By excluding Prius with defective brakes from d0h and k0l, Toyota has left the owners to helplessly experience life-threatening brake failures or malfunctions before Toyota will provide the replacement brake components needed to make the car safe. The law requires Toyota to prevent the life-threatening dangers of this defect before brake failure occurs. Toyota's cost-cutting strategy is causing crashes. Injuries and crashes caused by the brake defect explained herein have been reported to NHTSA. Toyota's decision to provide post-failure repair reimbursement - instead of a preventative safety recall remedy - explains many of the crashes and injuries reported to NHTSA. Here is a list of relevant complaints from safercar. 8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2019

The car would not accelerate as expected. It behaved as if the fuel injector was not working properly. We were not able to keep a consistent speed and the motor started to have a rough idle sound. The hybrid system stopped working, the icon of the batteries turned purple and would not recharge when stopping. We took it into the dealership, the service person they said it was a software and emissions miss-fire issue. It will take a part to be replaced and software updated. Toyota sent out a memo to them stating this might happen and this is how to fix it. It seems since they are warning service staff to be aware of this that maybe they should take care of it before it happens and not have me pay over $900 and the stress of it happening on the freeway and then having me get it fixed.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

On a winter day my car slid down a steep road and would not stop while breaking, both front fender flares broke off causing the car to act like it was on a sled. The car eventually stopped after I placed it in neutral and then slid again and then it finally stopped. I almost killed myself.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

Toyota issued safety recalls e0e and f0r for the failure of the hybrid inverter. If the inverter had not failed yet, the Toyota's remedy is a software re-flash. The software reflash remedy is not sufficient. There have been an excessive number of inverter failures after the software re-flash remedy for these recalls has been completed. This is very dangerous to drivers, as it leads to unintended deceleration the Prius spontaneously entering limp-home mode or even a hybrid system shut down. This is dangerous as in results in drastic reductions, if not the complete loss, of power. These unintended deceleration occurrences predominantly happen while the vehicles are in motion many times at high speeds. Between only two dealerships, we have documented approximately 100 inverter failures after the e0e and f0r software reflash remedy has been completed. During one inverter failure, which took place after receiving the e0e software re-flash, excessive heat was generated within the inverter that melted steel bolts and created an electrical arc that blasted two holes through the aluminum case of the inverter assembly. The driver stated if she had experienced this failure while on the freeway, she wouldn't be here anymore. the vehicle was a 2012 model year and at the time of the failure it had only 31,222 miles on it. Instances of unintended deceleration will continue to grow daily until Toyota implements a sufficient remedy that will prevent these losses of power from occurring. Attached please find a report detailing, for only two dealerships, the inverter failures we've experienced after the e0e and f0r software re-flash remedies have been completed. Also attached, please find the photographs of the inverter which experienced the electrical arc. Please consider that "date this happened" as the filing date of this report.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

Vehicle increased acceleration while making a right-hand turn and braking, into a covered parking stall. Vehicle did not stop under breaking until front end went over cement parking bumper.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2016

Halfway through parallel parking, right rear of car by curb, foot lightly on brake, was about to shift to d and was looking around for any pedestrians short-cutting in front of car before shifting, when car accelerated, not stopping in spite of brake, until smashing into tree. (I was thrown around but no one else was hurt, luckily).

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated. As a result, the contact crashed into a building and the air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact sustained chest injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,700.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2015

Car was in motion in a residential area, moving at a low speed, under 25mph. While in an undulating portion of the road, during entry and exit from a dip and slight turn in the road, the engine stalled for a brief moment, for no more than a second or so the accelerator was non-responsive, causing me to force a stop by using the brake, after which time the motor re-engaged as normal. Unknown cause, happened once in my experience with the car and never again. Car has been driven by my daughter for the last 3+ years, she has not reported a recurrence of the problem.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

Was driving at approx 20mph on a side road when the car completely lost power and went dead. All the dashboard warning lights lit up at the same time. Lost steering control (the steering wheel became very heavy and was unable to steer). Managed to coast to a stop a 100 feet away (since the car had absolutely no power). Turned off the power button, turned it back on and the car started running again. Took it to the dealer the next day. They ran diagnostics, found codes (listed below) which suggested that the Smart key lost communication with the car. They kept the car for an extra day, ran the diags overnight just to see if they can reproduce but, was told that they were not able to reproduce the problem. No idea what may have caused the issue. The Smart key was sitting on the center console. Below are the Smart key related codes that were recorded: u0100 - lost communication with ecm/pcm "a" u0142 - lost communication with body control module "b" u0155 - lost communication with instrument panel cluster (ipc) control module u0293 - lost communication with hybrid vehicle control system please help investigate this as this is potentially a very serious issue. By god's grace, there was no other vehicle on the road, was going at a low speed and thank god, this did not happen on a highway at highway speed. Thanks.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

Since the vehicle was purchased, the odometer has been off by about 2 miles per hour at 65, and 3-4 miles per hour at 95. This means that the oboe get is recording 4% higher mileage than what is actually being driven. My car is not alone, many Prius v models have the same problem. Dealership did not have a solution. This not only voided my 100,000 mile warranty 3-4k miles early, but it makes the fuel economy look better on paper than it actually is- a selling point that Toyota takes advantage of. To me, this is just as bad as what Volkswagen did with their diesel vehicles.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Prius. While in the process of parking the vehicle, the brakes disengaged and the vehicle accelerated forward unexpectedly. The contact crashed the vehicle into the preceding vehicle. While attempting to reverse the vehicle, the brakes disengaged and the vehicle accelerated backwards. The contact crashed the vehicle into the vehicle behind it and the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

I was pulling into a convenience store in my 2014 Prius. As I was gliding in, I depressed the break pedal and the car kept going. I continued to press it and the car started to accelerate, I could feel the surge of power. I was completely unable to stop the car and ran into parking posts at the front of the store. All airbags were deployed. I got a cut on my forehead, an ambulance came but I declined and my husband drove me to the er later where I received treatment. I was coming home from the gym at 9 am I have never been at fault in an accident before. I have a witness that said he heard a chirping sound coming from the breaks before I crashed. Toyota completely denies there is anything wrong with the car, but gives no explanation as to how this could have occurred. They will not help at all. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. This needs to be investigated by someone other than Toyota.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

I was pulling into a convenience store in my 2014 Prius. As I was gliding in, I depressed the brake pedal and the car kept going. I continued to press the brake and the car started to accelerate. I could feel the surge of power. I was completely unable to stop the car and I ran into parking posts at the front of the store. All airbags were deployed. I got a cut on my forehead and was bleeding. An ambulance arrived and my husband drove me to the er afterwards and I received treatment. I was coming home from the gym at 9am in the morning. I have never been at fault in an auto accident before. I have a witness that said he heard a chirping sound coming from my brakes right before the crash. I have the pin drive from the car that a representative, supposedly from an outside source, that retrieved it. This is what Toyota used to conduct their "investigation" into the incident. They concluded that it was completely not thier fault, not indicating how it could have happened. They are not going to help at all. Someone other than Toyota needs to investigate this problem before someone else gets killed. ( I filed a previous complaint this morning but realized I had entered the VIN number wrong. This is the same complaint with the correct VIN number.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2014

While traveling in slippery conditions I attempted to navigate a right hand turn. The car began to slide while braking indicating possible snow buildup in front of tires. I attempted to accelerate out of the slide which is proper in front wheel drive vehicles. The cars dash lights lite up and the slide indicator started beeping. The car became completely unresponsive to the gas providing no power whatsoever. The car slid over the curb and crashed into a highway sign and finally came to rest.
