Headlights problems of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Four problems related to headlights have been reported for the 2017 Toyota Prius. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

I purchased my 2017 Prius v ii in may 2017. Approximately 9 months or so after purchase my headlights burnt out, first the driver's side then passengers side. I am now replacing, purchasing new headlights every 3-4 because they continue to burn out. I've tried various brands including buying directly from Toyota but they still burn out. This is dangerous especially for night driving. Luckily the headlights do not burn out together at the same time. Toyota dealer won't give me an answer except to purchase a new lighting system for my headlights.

2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

Bright led headlights isn't the issue just with my Prius prime but with almost all new vehicles on the road that I presume have led lights. The lights are so bright that it bothers the driver of the oncoming vehicle or traffic. I face that issue while driving and can imagine the same with the driver of the oncoming vehicle. There are instances when drivers flash their headlights asking to use low-beam while I am already using the low-beam light setting. Last night 3/6/2018, an irritated drivers just brushed off my car on a county road thinking that I am not responding to his flashing light signal or ask to use low-beam on my car. I see excessive bright lights on newer cars as a safety issue while driving.

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2017

The problem appears at night, and is very dangerous on curving mountain roads which I drive often. It is a four lane road, often hwy 17. As the ambient light reduces, as there are fewer cars around me, the windshield darkens from top to bottom, and leaves me with perhaps only 10 inches at the bottom I can see through. I cannot see very far in front of me, to see where a curve goes, what is on the road, or how much room I have around me. I have been told it is the headlights that provide reduced lighting. The dealer told me there is nothing they can do, that I should turn on my brights, regardless of oncoming traffic. It is very dangerous.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that the vehicle started on its own without warning. The contact stated that he had an auto power start fob, but it was not around the key fob. In addition, a headlight warning sensor illuminated that advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (brunswick auto mart, 3031 center rd, brunswick, OH, 44212). The dealer replaced the passenger side headlight system and sensor. The headlight was repaired. The contact mentioned the vehicle engaging independently to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and they stated that they would document the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
