36 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

Headlights are inadequate and very unsafe. Light cast is a half moon with a horizontal upper border. It is dark above that and there is minimal peripheral light cast by the headlights so turning corners is very difficult. High beams only slightly improve ability to see.

37 Headlights problem of the 2016 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Purch 2016 Toyota awd Rav4 1 wk ago. Never tried lights b4 purch as was daylight. The next morning w/dark going to work I used the headlights to find out you cant see w/them. I have never had headlights I couldnt see with. On dim: beams short footage in front of vehicle & the field of vision is dark w/line of darkness above beam & you cannot see any futher. Like you are in a big black tunnel. You dont have a field of vision on the front & sides of the vehicle at all! the driver could possably hit something or a pedestrian, etc. Due to improper vision lighting. I had to stop & roll down the drivers window so I could make sure I was turning left correctly on the road to my home at night. I live in the country with no street lights. High beam: beam up at the tree tops in front of you cris crossed. With these headlights you have no field of vision! I am afraid to drive after dark because I cannot see at all! I have taken vehicle to dealership where purchased & they state cant adjust them but they did try to. Vision was/is still bad. I took vehicle to another dealership to see if might know how to adjust & they stated same thing. They checked the lights, stated lights were in Toyota's specs & is little room for adjustment. I tried using again this morning & still bad field of vision. I called & asked dealership to file official complaint w/Toyota concerning the bad field of vision of these headlights, due to being afraid I might hit something I cant see & be killed or injured or hit someone else I cant see & injure or kill them. The problem w/headlights needs to be addressed immediatlly before this happens w/me or someone else. The dealership stated they have complaints about the headlights all the time. Bought as retirement vehicle costing $30,000. 00 & cant see to drive. I do not know what my recourse is. Please help me if you can before major mishap! thanks.

40 Headlights problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

The instruments (speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge) of the car do not light up if the headlights are off. This can be dangerous when driving under underpasses or in the shadow of trees, etc. , since one unexpectedly cannot see the speedometer or tachometer under those conditions.

42 Headlights problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

My 2006 Rav4 has daytime running lights (drl) along with the optitron dash (lcd dash that is lit whenever the car is running - as opposed to the dashboard being lit only when the headlights are turned on). On the Rav4 Toyota only provides a small icon to let you know when your headlights are on. With the optitron dash and daytime running lights I am able to get into my car at night, see the lighted dash and light coming from the headlights and erroneously believe that my full nighttime headlights are on (instead of the daytime running lights). The problem with this setup is my tail lights are not on. I feel that this is a safety issue as running w/o tail lights at night could cause rear-end collisions. Rather than provide Rav4 owners with a small dashboard indicator showing when the headlights are lit, Toyota should include; either an indicator that shows when the headlights are not on, or include auto-on headlights for vehicles with drl and optitron dashboards.

43 Headlights problem of the 2001 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/02/2005

Toyota rav 4 2001, headlights fog up after one year. They are a sealed unit. I have had them replaced 3 time now because of this problem. They are not cracked or damaged in any way. The headlights just fogg up after about 1 1/2 years. The cost of the headlights are $500 and to install them it's $180. After they fogg up, the light is dimmer on the night headlights and can't see very good when the light is so dim. I was told by the Toyota repair shop that this happens to the headlights all the time. Also on the Lexus model that they also make. He told me it was a problem that Toyota has not addressed. He just know that would happen again, because he replaces them all the time. That is unexceptible, the head should not be fogging up like that. Why hasn't Toyota mfg. Done something about this problem???? please help me find out. Pleaseeeeee. Thank you.

44 Headlights problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/07/2003

On July 7, 2003 I was on my way to work when the battery discharge light came on and I had no steering capability. I was travelling about sixty miles per hour on the interstate. I almost hit the median divider before I could steer the vehicle to the side of the road. I called the dearlership and explained what had happened. They told me to have the vehicle towed in, they didn't even offer to have it towed. Incidentally this is a new vehicle with less than 1100 miles on it and I had only driven the vehicle about one week before the above happened. The dealership kept my vehicle for two days and I went to get my Rav4 and asked what had happened. The service manager said that the drive belt pulleys had not been properly installed on my new Rav4 and that caused the drive belt to come off of the pulleys and broke the tensioner and the housing guide. I took the car home and the next morning, the new Rav4 would not start. I jumped srtarted the Rav4 from my wifes vehicle and let it run for about fifteen minutes thinking that the battery just needed a charge. My wife was going to use the neew Rav4 vehicle that day to shop. She called me about mid-morning and informed me that the new Rav4 vehicle would not start as she had gone to the mall. That evening my wife and I went to the mall and jum started the vehicle agin and I finally got it home and it is now in my garage, it just will not start. I called and talaked to the service director about all of the problems that I was having with my new Rav4 SUV. He equated my break-downs to going to the store and buying a box of four light bulbs and taking the light bulbs home and putting a new light bulb in a lamp that had a burned out light bulb and when the lamp is turned on then the new light bulb burns out. This really made me angry. I told him that there was big difference in a fifty cent light bulb and a $25,000. 00 new vehicle with only 1100 miles on it.
