My 2021 rav 4 premium I bought new @ 84 miles from Toyota town of stockton,CA I noticed once in November 2023 gas gauge not read gas level properly. December at least twice I noticed issue progress from gas gauge reading inconsistence to gas tank failure to fill up or failure to allow gas. January 27,2024 I am at gas station, while trying to fill up based on my tank level at half a tank my gas tank did not allow gas in I got push back. I retried 2 more times and gas went in slowly but gas gauge after still read half tank. Local Toyota February 2,2024 said they cannot duplicate problem. I cannot rely on accuracy of gauge or tank I have had same problem gas gauge failure read & tank no accept gas issues in previous Toyota’s bought new. 2008 prius prius safety issue found by local Toyota who switched out gas gauge & possibly gas tank but issue continued never could be fixed. Reported to Toyota corporation, 2013/2016 issue started until I got ride of it 2021. When prius deceleration happened for first time on my way to Toyota. I was drove from work I could guide steering but power dropped, deceleration stayed active. So thankful no accident. Toyota tech said I had gas. They did whatever problem paused but came back! I had to get ride of prius safety at stake! February 7 or 8,2021 the prius decelerated hazards on prius system on a red triangle on my computer saying need gas but, it had plenty gas and technician found it had gas, that was not cause of problem. 2020 hybrid rav 4 delivered by roseville Toyota of CA when they delivered SUV on less than full tank to my home. Waited 2 days for insurance fully ensure car. 3 rd day first day I drove car and I went to gas station twice to try fill up, but gas gauge no respond to input of gas in tank. I did a video address issues with roseville Toyota and Toyota corporation. I returned car, I did not know Toyota corporation rejected contract until I spoke to roseville Toyota in person.

The engine maintenance required turned on at55k miles for the coolant bypass. After trying to get it repaired they had 500 on back order. Thousands of rav 4’s are experiencing this with over $800 quote to repair , this cannot just be a basic issue this is bigger.
As I opened up the fuel door - a spring popped out - after I finished fueling- I tried to reopen the fuel door but could not - this can strand a driver when gas gets low as unable to refill the gas tank due to inability to open the door.
To begin with, the 2011 Toyota Rav4 in question was a loaner provided to me by fiore vw Audi (1000 s. Logan blvd in hollidaysburg, PA 16648) at @ 10:45 am on 9/16/23. My 2018 Toyota sienna was being serviced at this location on 9/18/23 and they provided me the 2011 Rav4 in the meantime. The brakes failing, the steering wheel locking up, and the sudden acceleration of this 2011 Rav4 occurred later that afternoon @ 4 pm in a sheetz parking lot at 3261 w. College Ave. State college, PA 16801. As I was turning left into an open parking space at the rear entrance of this sheetz, I began to turn the steering wheel to the right, straighten out, and park properly in the parking space; I also began to press down on brake to stop the car. As I pressed down on the brake pedal, the brakes quickly locked up and became unresponsive. Simultaneously, the steering wheel locked up becoming unresponsive with the front wheels still slightly turned to the left. I was still coming out of my turn when this vehicle failure began. I quickly took my foot off the brake, then the car suddenly burst forward with an intense acceleration. I immediately put my foot back down on the brake, but the car still proceeded forward towards the building; moving slightly to the left due to the steering wheel still locked in place and unresponsive. I slowly rolled into a metal obstruction at the end of the parking space, hitting it at an angle. I had my seat belt on and no air bags were deployed. No injuries to me, but some cosmetic damage to the front of the Rav4. There were no warning lights or audible warnings prior to this vehicle failure. I didn't notice any warning lights or alarms during the failure. Prior to this incident everything seemed fine. After the incident, I drove the car home, drove it to my insurance agent on 9/18/23, and I drove it back to the dealer on 9/20/23. That was it. I would believe sheetz has this complete incident recorded w/security cameras at that back entrance way.

Unintended acceleration.
-inspection found coolant bypass valve seized recommendation, was to replace coolant hose with bypass valve. Yes, the car is available for inspection upon any request -safety risk unknown if not fixed -michaels Toyota of bellevue washington confirmed on September 23rd 2023. I brought the car in originally on September 9th 2023 for a 10,000 mileage service and oil change. When I called to ask why the engine maintenance notice wouldn't turn off. I was scheduled to bring the car back on September 23, 2023 the needed part was not in stock nor covered by the factory or powertrain warranty with 31,2002 miles on it. The warning light came on at the same time the service and oil change was due. I was stopped a month prior by a random mechanic who noticed the car was leaking abnormal amounts of what he said could be coolant on the passengers front undercarriage. This leaking has been happening for approximately a year and I was not notified the previous 3 times the car had been in for inspections.

Car is shaking when turned on. Will stall if car is not shifted to gear sometimes. When ac is on, car will jump rpm. Car acceleration is weak and will jump to 5-6k rpm. Car also smells burnt sometimes when driving. Car also smells like gasoline sometimes. Car does not hold proper amount of gasoline.
I bought a 2023 Rav4 hybrid xle brand new. On my first refill of the gas tank, I noticed that the gas needle would only go a smidge over the 3/4 mark. The Rav4 hybrid is supposed to have 14. 5 gallons and around 540 miles per tank but I estimate it to fill around 10. 5 gallons and the car shows around 413 miles per tank. I've attached two images I took when I filled up the tank, the car showed around 36 miles left to empty and it only pumped 8. 8 gals.
The fuel system will not fill up the full tank. When the tank is half full it signals for the pump to stop and that is all that will go in the tank.
Fuel tank fill up only 9-10gal wherein published rating to 14gal tank. There should be a recall on changing fuel pump but my VIN does not show any recall.
Four incidents of unintended acceleration , in all instances foot was on break petal not on gas petal, 3 instances vehicle was stopped at traffic light, last incident was pulling into a parking space foot on brake, in all instances braked hard and shifted vehicle into neutral and turned vehicle off to avoid collisions, personal injury and property damage.

2001 Toyota Rav4 was sold at auction, to a used car dealership. I purchased this car from the used car dealer on August 5, 2023. Unfortunately, the dealer tampered with the brakes. I witnessed their mechanic working on the rear brake system in person on August 4, 2023. The owner told me that because there was a noise coming from the rear, they were "fixing it". Upon buying this car and driving it to a gas station, filled it up, much to my horror, gas spilled out. The gas tank has a leak in it. Also, upon driving it home the engine warning light suddenly illuminated. I promptly brought it to a Toyota dealership in wooster, ohio and requested a complete examination. I have their full report, and they have determined this car to be unsafe to drive. The brakes had been adjusted when in fact, the brakes and brake lines need to be replaced, this was the used car dealer at fault. I feel the used car dealership bought car at auction and was unaware of the gas tank leak and the bearing plates being fragile, the engine cradle could break at any given moment, causing the engine to fall out. The car was purchased at and maintained by an akron Toyota dealership since it was brand new in 2001. After 23 years why did this dealership allow this car to be released into the general public? frame damage so bad, the bearing plates that hold the engine up are beyond fragile, the cradle that holds the engine integrity is grossly compromised, and the gas tank has a hole in it. Bad brakes + leaking gas tank. One spark and = ka boom. I would be dead. So many things wrong in this situation. Personally, my physical and emotional health suffered. I had chronic diarrhea, headaches, and went to the dr several times. Please let me know how this matter should be resolved. I am upset and financially compromised all from this car. Documentation available.

This Rav4 is having acceleration issues. While driving it randomly has issues at the time of acceleration. It has happened from a stop to a go, and gaining speed. This issue has put me into an incredibly vulnerable situation as I was very close to being hit by a semi while trying to merge onto the high way twice. When I pressed down on the accelerator, the engine hesitated to start gaining speed slowing down the speed needed to safely merge on to the highway. I have taken it in and all I am told is that there are no codes found and the issue can't be duplicated.

Car shut off while driving and once restarted check engine light came on. Safety was at risk because I was driving with cars behind me. After check trouble code it was determined faulty gas pump.
I am not able to fill up the fuel tank to capacity. 8 gallons is all I. An vet in the tank. The tank is not full. The gauges show it’s about at the half way mark.
In short: my car only fills up to less than 10. 5 gallons on an empty tank of gas when the fuel capacity of the tank is 14. 5. Toyota is aware of this issue on their Rav4 hybrids and they're not doing anything to fix this consumer issue. This is dangerous for many reasons.
Vehicle surges when accelerating since it was new. Throttle goes dead where engine idles but now power at all. Does it from a standing start, does it on hills and when merging onto a freeway. Now it happens on cruise control, when set on 75 mph engine loses power and slows down to 45 for a few minutes then shutters and speeds back up to 75. This past month if you let the fuel get down to 1/4 of a tank it will happen all the time. On interstate this week it happened and slowed to 35 mph and wouldn't go any faster until more gas was added. No check engine light ever. Dealer has checked twice and says no codes found and can't get it to happen it's a intermittent problem. We almost got hit by a semi on the interstate this week week due to this happening and I was unable to get out of his way because I no throttle response at all. . . . But engine was idling that all. Had to turn the engine off for 45 minutes before it would have any throttle response at all. Drove down the emergency lane to the next exit and filled up with gas. Engine surged for next 60 miles home. This is a huge problem! I am going to my local Toyota dealer tomorrow to talk with them again about this problem. If they give me the run around again I am going to file a lawsuit against Toyota and the dealership!.
When I started my car there was an overwhelming smell of gas. I immediately turned it off and looked under the hood at which time I realized a hose was melted. When the engine is on, gas sprays from the melted hose. I have had regular maintenance which was just 1 month ago. No warning lights were on. I purchased this vehicle new in September 2022. I am extremely concerned that this happened in a new vehicle which has had regular maintenance. Luckily it did not catch fire. I have contacted the dealership who sent a tow truck; however, the vehicle needs to have the engine on to put it in neutral and release the parking brake. The tow truck operator was therefore unable to tow it until the hose is replaced but dealership maintenance is unavailable today due to it being a holiday.
Starting in June 2018, I have had seven episodes of unintended acceleration. (I have owned the car, purchased in private sale, since June of 2013. ) there were common elements to each incident:1. Gradually slowing; 2. Foot on brake; 3. Engine accelerates sharply, a moment before complete stop in first six, a moment after in seventh and last. In each incident able to maintain control as foot already was on brake; yet in three of the incidents, including the last two, the car bucked forward a few inches despite the pressure on the brake. Situation resolved when I turned off the ignition, a reflex developed after the first incident. This last incident was particularly upsetting as I was in a long line of slow moving cars on a relatively narrow road with pedestrians on each side of my car. Each incident has been reported to the local dealer with which I have been trading for many years. They did a thorough inspection when I reported the incidents to them in January of 2020 and again just today after the last incident that occurred on may 19, 2023. They could find nothing wrong and include on their report "tas states suspected driver error, pedal miss [sic] application. " I do not accept this conclusion. I note in the last incident I had come to complete stop momentarily before the engine accelerated and despite my heavy pressure on the brake bucked forward, with control established only when I shut the engine down. During the entire period of these incidents I also have been driving two other vehicles, a 2008 camry and a 2023 camry. I have had no such incidents while driving these two cars. I do not drive with two feet, always the first question asked when such an incident is reported. Finally, I believe my car dates from a period when Toyota was vehemently denying such a problem in their cars when they knew full well that such was the case, a deception for which they were found criminally liable. Such history does not instill confidence in corporate Toyota.

The front suspension has problem I noticed recently the sway bar and front studs of the car is not reliable and also the fuel tank also has issue even if the tank is not fuel it refuses to take more fuel.
Toyota (and Toyota of boardman) is purposely overstating fuel capacity on their vehicles. So this is unsafe as drivers don’t the actual amount of gas before the run out and could lead to unexpected stops. This makes it impossible to determine the actual amount of gasoline used, which would also then make it impossible to know the total amount of air pollutants their cars omit. This could easily mean that Toyota is over stating their epa estimated miles per gallon, the document attach shows that Toyota is aware that their gas tanks have known engineering defects however, they will only address the issue if a user owns a 2019 through 2021 model (rav4 hybrid). Also, they said they will only address the problem if the person cannot put more than 9. 8 gallons that would mean that they will only address this issue if over 32% of the gas tank is unusable. If I would of known the truth I would have reconsidered buying my 2022 Toyota Rav4 xse hybrid.
While accelerating ~6ft from a complete stop, a minor collision occurred affecting the front right headlight. The air-bags did not activate and the engine compartment was immediately on fire. Within ~1minute, the fire had spread to and completely engulfed the passenger compartment. The contents were immediately destroyed. The speed with which the fire spread through the vehicle was a significant risk to my life and the motorists around me. There were no warning lights on the dashboard prior to the incident, and the car had never before experienced an accident. Witnesses and firefighters estimated that any fire barrier between the engine and passenger compartments had failed, and that a fire of that severity from such a minor accident indicated some fault with the vehicle. The vehicle was an immediate total loss as inspected by our insurer.
My Rav4 does not hold a full tank of gas. It only allows half a tank get full of gasoline. Toyota says they don't know how to fix, as well as two other shops I have brought it to. There are no engine messages or any other signs of issues. Gas will gush out of the tank when filling up if I do not stop at half way.
The engine on my Rav4 suddenly stopped without any notification while I was driving it on the freeway. I could have been severely injured from the risk of being rear ended by vehicles behind me. I have experienced this twice now, and both times, I have been on a busy highway in the middle of rush hour traffic. While driving, the engine would start sputtering and the vehicle will jolt and shake, eventually causing a warning message to appear that says power steering low, engine shutting off, place vehicle in park. Then, when I turn the engine off, and try to restart it, it would flash a message that read not ready to drive. After towing the vehicle to a service department, the vehicle would start up like normal, and the techs could not get vehicle to duplicate the issue. No codes would come up when they place it on a scanner, either. I researched the issue online, and it appears I am not the only one who has experienced this issue with the Rav4. . Read more...
I purchased car in 12/20. The car has a 14. 5 gal sized tank, and gets avg 42 mpg -calculated by miles driven to empty divided by gas pumped when empty- as well as on dashboard display. Since purchase the car registers empty 150 or more miles sooner than the 560 dashboard estimate and than 14. 5 mpg. I am only able to fill less than 11 gallons when the fuel guage reads empty with less than 20 miles remaining. The service dept assures me the car is able to drive 560 on a full tank, as the fuel guage and miles-to-empty ignore a "buffer " of several gallons in the tank. It is unsafe to drive over 150 miles with the car registering no miles remaining. It is unsafe to plan a trip based on dashboard or tank size/gallons mileage, where I could run out of gas in an unsafe region.
I was pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake, had just touched the parking bar, and the engine started racing. The car went forward over the parking bar before I cold stop it by stomping on the brake. The only thing stopping me from going over the side of the hill was a chain link fence. Luckily the brakes worked. This is a 2021 Rav4 and I have never had this problem before. I am scheduled to go into the Toyota dealer to have them look at it.
Since I bought the car in 2018, the car has stalled two times while I am driving on the road. That was very dangerous because other drivers almost hit me from behind. The first time I had the problem, the Toyota dealer told me that it was likely caused by bad gas. It happened again this time today. I am bringing it to the dealer again, but likely not able to get a solution. At the same time, I am scared of driving it, yet I need to drive it for work and other necessities. Happened at 32k in August 2020, and 55k in January 9, 2022.

2021 Toyota rev4 with just over 5,000 miles. I got off from a parking lot and drove 1/2 miles, the screen shown "vehicle alert" and asked to check engine with message "a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected". I smell very strong gasoline, then stop the vehicle. I check the gas tank, it's normal. I opened the hood and saw a puddle of gasoline on engine part, between the battery and the engine but lower than the battery. It's so dangerous to drive with leaking gasoline so I park my car on a street.
I have a 2010 Toyota Rav4 limited and sometimes the car starts and sometimes it doesn’t but all the light come on but the car itself doesn’t start I replaced the battery, starter, starter safety switch but it still doesn’t start sometimes.

Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with fuel pumps and manufactured by dense International America and its affiliates contain a defective component. - settlement paper states this that I received in the mail, in which I am a class member of. I was driving my car roughly a year ago, when my car shut off in the middle of the road and would not turn back on period. Road side assistance had to come retrieve my car, and haul it to the dealership. Today I still have this faulty fuel pump in my car, that could shut off at any point in time while I'm driving down the road.
Before purchasing this car (used, certified) I asked the salesman if the 2020 Rav4 hybrid had the fuel filling issue I had read about in the 2019. He said he'd never heard of it; I told him it was all over the internet and he said "OH, that's for earlier models. " so I bought the car. Immediately had issue where I can't get more than 10. 5 gallons of gas in the tank when fuel light is on and dte is 20 or less. The advertised fuel capacity is 14. 5. I have a long daily commute and bought this car for the range. I asked the dealer again and they provided me with Toyota's chart that shows 2. 5 gallons of "reserve" at the bottom and another 1-2 for "air" at the top of the tank. Yes, Toyota thinks you can fuel their cars with air. I then called Toyota hq and they said the fuel tank on this car was already taken care of as part of their customer support bulletin. They said it was still under warrantee and should be replaced again — "fixed properly. " dealer still refuses to take care of this issue, telling me now that the 2. 5 gallons of "reserve" on the bottom is "unusable. " as a woman who commutes long distances daily on rural roads, this frightens me. What if I run out of fuel because I think that I've got 2. 5 gallons of "reserve" to make it to the next open gas station — only to run out of gas on a cold, dark winter's night? as dramatic as I am being, the point is that not only is this is a potential safety issue, it's also absolute fraud on Toyotas part — a car advertised as having a 14. 5 gallon/572 mile range takes only 10. 4 gallons with a 425 mile range.
Hybrid system malfunction. Repairs include replacement of motor cable #2 and frame wire. Advanced corrosion was the explanation. Not covered under warranty (either 3yr/36k or platinum addt’l plan). Problem occurred at 36,366 miles (300+ miles just over standard warranty?) in the midst of delayed communicating with Toyota with no response after 3 days. Was told to reference TSB t-tt-0630-20. After researching, this problem is frequently referenced as being an issue. Should just be a recall at this point.
