2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 03/22/2012

I was on my way to work when the vehicle in front of me came to a complete stop. I was approx. Three car lengths behind her (which is plenty of distance at 25mph) when I applied my brakes though nothing happened. They made a grinding noise (like the pads were gone, but they are new ceramic pads). I ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. I got a citation for following to close, which is $260. 00, my insurance was increased by over $100. 00 a month, I had to pay for her car plus $3750. 00 of damage on mine. She didn't have insurance and was driving on a suspended license. When I told the officer what had happened with my car he just looked at me as if I was stupid. This is a major problem that is and has cost people a lot of money, not to mention being without a vehicle.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

The second time this happened to my vehicle I was driving on the freeway at 7:00am on 2/6/12 on the 215 s. Going around 75mph. The accelerator pedal floored all the way down as if someone had their foot on it. I panicked and had no idea what to do but press the brakes. As I pressed the brakes the car jerked me around. I noticed cars in front of me starting to slow down as I was entering traffic. By that time my car was going 100mph on its own because I had removed my feet from the petals. I last minute reacted and put my foot under the petal and propped it up myself and it immediately slowed down. When I took it to the Toyota dealership in san bernardino they told me there was nothing wrong with it and I had to pick it up. I was very upset that they were not taking me seriously only because I was not in an accident. I did not feel safe and returned the car to them after having to pay them some money. I asked what they would do with the car and they said they would resell it. When I showed concern for the next owners safety they told me "it is not your problem anymore" I was very dissapointed because I have been a loyal Toyota customer since the day I turned 18 and have only bought Toyotas. I still can not beleive that they will resell it the way it is after they know what has happened to it not once but 2 times before, it is only a matter of time before it happens to that car again. I am pregnant and am very thankful that I reacted on time and was able to prop the petal back into place if I hadnt I have no doubt in my mind that me and my baby could have got really hurt not to mention the other drivers around me. Please contact Toyota and have them do further tests on the vehicle before it results fatal once again it is not the first time this has happened to Toyota. ( also, I had no floor mats in my car at the time of the incident).

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

While driving down the highway on the way to work the car suddenly went into idle. The car would not accelerate making it difficult to get it out of the way, luckily I was on the road in the early morning when traffic was sparse. Upon consulting my local Toyota dealer they stated it is the throttle body which is common in this motor. I have found that I am not the only person to have this issue and really think it should be investigated as this is an extreme safety issue and a recall should be issued.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

As I was driving down the highway I accelerated to pass and it seemed as if my throttle shorted out. My cars rpms dropped and I started to decrease speed. I removed my foot from the accelerator and it seemed to catch again, but as I pushed the pedal again my accelerator went out for a second time. At this point and my engine shut down. I shifted into neutral and tried to restart my car multiple times while rolling with no success. I had to try to maneuver my car through traffic with no power, rolling at a speed of about 40 miles per hour and decreasing rapidly while on the highway with a speed limit of 65. After I made my way over two lanes to the shoulder I tried to restart my car and it would catch and then turn off. I waited a few minutes and tried again, it started as if nothing had happened and I continued on. I could not take my car to the shop but planned to take it the next Monday. On my way home on a Sunday evening I was driving on one of the busiest streets in arlington, TX and the car started to shut down on me again. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes as I have done before and headed home. As I was driving again the cars throttle went out completely and I could do nothing except roll down the street. As I pushed the throttle my car would not exceed 2,000 rpm's and the max speed was 25 mph. I made it to a safe spot after rolling for about 2 miles at 12-20 mph on a 45 mph road. I had to wait until Monday before I could have someone tow it away. The salesman and I did the research on the Scion Tc and assured me before purchasing the car, that acceleration was not a problem. I was concerned due to the problems Toyota was having however I did not see any recalls or major problems except airbags, windows, and the sunroof recalls. I was expecting a great car, with great safety features and durability but issues with a throttle body going out while on the highway is a major concern that needs to be investigated.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

I purchased a 2009 Toyota scion from the fairfield, CA dealership . I was on the freeway when my car accelerated up to a faster speed than I wanted I tried to correct it in the confusion and not understanding what was going on I lost control and crashed into another vehicle. There was 10,000. 00 of damage to the car it was repaired but then I had another accident in the same car again sitting at a stop light I barley tapped the gas pedal my car jumped into a high speed smashing into the car in front of me after I hit I turned around to check on my child thinking a car had hit me from behind but it was not another car it was just mine but then it did it again smashing into the car again. It was crazy I had no idea what was going on my face was smashed up pretty bad 2 black eyes and fat lips extra. My car hit the car in front of me so hard it smashed into the car in front of it. Now gather I was already stopped sitting and waiting for the light to turn green what caused my car not once but twice to smash into the car in front of me. My car was totaled. I had the worst time with this car it seemed like I was driving with a dark cloud over me. Not only was the acceleration a problem but the trunk lid also broke off and my seat belts did not work properly. There also was a problem with the brakes sometimes if I was on a steep hill the brakes would skip and not catch almost like it would jump.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

I have a 2009 Toyota Scion Tc which I am very afraid to drive but it is not on the recall list but I am having major problems with the brakes(abs tracking system). I have had 3 very close calls as a result of my brakes locking up(going slow) and unable to stop, even after I take my foot off the brake they remain locked. One incident I almost went right into a busy 4 lane highway. It has happened on dry roads and wet roads are a lot worse, I have to start stopping a lot sooner than one should. I am very stressed when having to drive my vehicle anymore. Another issue which only happened once and was when I was driving slow it felt like my vehicle accelerated without applying any acceleration. I have a stick and I find myself unsure which gear to be in when the roads are wet because at times I feel like I am driving on glass and have to shift to higher gear as if there is too much power causing me to feel like I do not have full control of my car and that I am actually driving on glass and the roads may only be wet.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 12/09/2007

My daughter pedal stuck to the floor of her 2007 scion in 2009 of last year. I can provide the date of the incident. She was driving normal speed in corona California down hidden valley parkway. She tried to stop the car but the pedal was stuck & the rug mat always gave us problems with this fairly new vehicle. She was unable to stop at plowed in to the car at a higher speed due to the petal stuck and going in a downhill descend. As a result of the pedal/mat malfunction. She hit the vehicle at the light at a non-extreme speed but was not able to stop. The air bags did not deploy and she had hit the gentlemen in a truck in front of us. The corona police took the incident report down. The officer said it was amazing that she not injured too bad, but emotionally she was a mess. The whole front in of the vehicle came right into herfront seat & passenger seat. The airbags did not deploy at all. She was only injured slightly with a couple days off from school. Myself from work to attend to her pain. I was not in the vehicle. My daughter's car was totaled & the collision center, the insurance company filed the report of the stuck pedal(accelerator). I complained to Toyota> I also was concerned about the incident. This incident happened prior to the recall but is too much of a CO-incident. My daughter is a good driver. She complained of the pedal but I did not thank that it was going to be a safety issue. I have since then settled with the insurance company for the payment to purchase a new car. We bought another Scion Tc this time 2009. Now this car is better in the pedal area but still has a delay with the braking system and pulls to the left slightly. I am filing a complaint because the initial Toyota was totaled due to a stuck pedal. This is before any recall or deaths occurred but several of my friends , colleagues are telling me to file the complaint for investigation to see why this failure occurred. I was only able to correct the failure with a new car. Than.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 08/18/2007

1) this is not a failure due to an event but a design flaw on the Scion Tc with electronic throttle "drive-by-wire". The throttle response is delayed by 1/2 to 1 full second upon laying foot on the accelerator pedal. 2) as a result of this design flaw, the car is very difficult to control when driving because the car reacts too slowly in counteracting any hazardous road condition one may face. When the situation calls for acceleration, the car does not respond to the driver stepping on the accelerator. The car begins to react 1/2 to 1 second later which can be crucial time wasted to avoid an accident due to the lag in throttle response. For instance, I was forced to apply my brakes abruptly due to the traffic in front of my car. I immediately saw the vehicle behind me approach me at a faster than normal pace because the driver reacted late. I was forced to depress the accelerator slightly to make more room for the vehicle behind me to brake and therefore reducing the impact of our cars or to avoid it completely. However, this was unavoidable because my car did not respond fast enough to my acceleration. Luckily, my rear bumper suffered no visible damages.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 05/13/2007

In may 2007 I had a rear end accident with another car where my car would not stop when I put on the brake. The other car moved forward and my car still would not stop and hit it again. It finally stopped when I put it in park. It seemed to me the accelerator was overpowering the brake. It happened on two other occasions. I have taken it to the Toyota dealership twice for it to investigated, once after the accident and again last year. They could not duplicate it and told me the car uses drive by wire technology and it was impossible for what I am experiencing to be occurring. Now the service manager will not even return my calls. Calls to Toyota customer relations were met with you need to call scion customer relations and when they transfer me the call disconnects. I own a 2006 Scion Tc. I took the drs. Side floor mat out last summer and now with all the press and Toyota saying there is nothing wrong with my car I am afraid to drive it. I owe more than it is worth, so I am finding difficulty in even replacing it.
