Check engine light comes on. Dealership comes up with codes p043e, p043f, p0456, p0401,p0402, p2419 evap codes related to TSB eg047-06. However, this is not restricted to just this model and is caused due to a defect in the design of the fuel system, that allows water intrusion into the charcoal canister and the filter, leading to expensive repairs. Many other scion models as well as other economy sized Toyota vehicles share the same defect in the design leading to the service bulletin, which actually should be a recall so that this design defect can be fixed properly at the dealership by Toyota. If neglected by consumers or if the fix is postponed due to it being so expensive, it can lead to serious safety issues related to the fuel system of the vehicle.
Started up the car and smelled a strong smell of gas. Discovered that the fuel line had ruptured spewing fuel onto the engine causing a potential fire hazard or explosion. Thank god we stopped the engine immediately or we would have been incinerated once we had reached highway speeds and engine was hot. Vehicle is now not safe to drive and has to be towed in for repairs.
