3 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

I drive a 2005 Scion Xb, about two weeks ago the back hatch handle broke of, where the light shine to the license plate. I know that there was a recall on the handle like three years ago. . . I called Toyota to see if the recall was expired, they don't see a recall ever been done. I do see this as a safety do to lighting and electrical. I know this has been an issue with other scion like the one I have. Some did get a recall and got fixed.

4 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

I recently experienced a "sudden acceleration incident". Our 2008 Scion Xb was driven over 122,000 miles without major malfunction until 3:30 pm on September 26 2014. Then, after stopping at our mailbox on the left side of the road, I proceeded 15 feet to our driveway entrance and made a left turn to position the car to pass through our gate, about 20 feet ahead. My speed was under 5 mph. I may or may not have touched the brake and/or accelerator pedal to adjust speed. Suddenly, the engine roared into wide-open-throttle and the car lurched forward. The car went through the gate, grazing the left gatepost, which shattered the left-front hubcap and sheared off the left mirror mount. The car then careened down our driveway while I attempted to steer and apply the brake. After about 2 seconds, during which the car traversed about 100 feet down the driveway, the engine abruptly slowed to normal and the brakes stopped the car. Damage included the sheared-off left mirror assembly, left-front hubcap, and minor denting of the left-front wheel well. The car engine has behaved normally since but has not been driven beyond our driveway. I experienced no impact or injury, aside from shock.

6 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

The back hatch door handle looks like it is melted and very sticky. Needs to be replaced. Also when I shift into 3rd gear sometimes I feel a light grinding. It seems to only happen when my car is cold and does not happen after my car is warmed up. I hope it nothing wrong with the transmission. I have taken it to a mechanic they said nothing is wrong, very strange.

7 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

I noticed a few weeks ago that when I tried to open the lift gate, that my fingers were covered in a black mushy substance. The switch to open the door was completely melted and would barely open. My wife and I don't usually use the hatch door, so I don't know how long its been in this condition . We have been very happy with the scion up to this point. I found out that many others are having this same problem and feel totally disappointed in Toyota's product. I'm seriously planning on taking this flaw to the media since the door may not even open in an emergency. The others have told me that it is no longer covered by warranty, and Toyota refuses to fix the problem. The dealership wants over $200. 00 to fix it. I feel it is a flaw that Toyota should repair and not me. The part was probably made in china and is junk. The car has always been kept in the carport and never abused.

8 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

At random times all of the traction control lights, brake lights and other lights on the dash illuminate. It also seems to get harder to steer the vehicle. I have been told it is a wheel speed sensor and drum that needs to be replaced and possibly an axle or spindle. For a car bought new in 2008 with only 42,000 miles the manufacturer should stand behind the product. I am concerned of the saftey of driving this vehicle and having a wheel come off. The dealer wants a bunch of money to fix it. Unhappy Toyota owner.

9 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I have a Toyota 2006 Scion Xb that I purchased new and am extremely fond of it. In March of 2014, the ignition switch started suspiciously loosening up, moving around when the key was inserted into the ignition and progressed in loosening up to the point where the ignition key was able to be completely pulled out/removed after inserted into the ignition to turn the car on and run the engine. The shockingly dangerous thing was that the engine could continue to run and could be driven. It was a huge safety issue due to engine being at risk of shutting off, losing the ability to steer or engage the brakes and being out of control of the vehicle one is driving. I contacted the Toyota dealership and had my Scion Xb assessed and repaired to the tune of $463. 00 at the Toyota dealership. The Toyota dealership reported no recalls were issued for this malfunction. I know that gm had a big, intentionally delayed recall, related to this ignition/ignition switch malfunction of some of their vehicles which led to a number of accidents with some deaths resulting. This was reportedly due to accidents where the car is being driven, the ignition/ignition switch malfunctions and the engine stops running. I would like Toyota and other scion owners to know that this has occurred and could be potentially lethal.

10 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 11/30/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Scion Xb. The contact started the ignition and applied pressure to the brake pedal, followed by an unintended forceful acceleration. The driver side floor mat was underneath the brake pedal, and it covered the accelerator pedal surface. The engine was turned off immediately. The failure was contributed to a floor mat clip that disengaged from the floor which resulted in the movement of the mat. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was rejected from the system. The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer's engineer who replaced the floor mat clip. The failure mileage was 31,688.
