Driver side electric door lock failed to fully unlock door mechanism, manual door lock mechanisms (interior pull & exterior key) ineffective, door does not unlock or unlatch (open) when interior handle pulled, occupant (driver) unable to exit vehicle.

The rear door latch handle broke off in my hand after trying to open the rear door about 18 months ago. I replaced the part at the dealership at a cost of almost $300. This happened again in Nov. 2012. It is a high stress part that is held on by 2 very small cheap plastic brackets.

Hatch handle, made of flimsy plastic and held on by a couple of screws, broke off. This part, which contains the handle, lock mechanism and the license plate light, gets a lot of use, opening and closing the hatch, and is not very well made for the amount of use it is subjected too.

1. Driver's side lock intermittently won't open from inside. Neither manually nor pressing the key fob will open. The only way to open the door is from the outside and manually using the handle. I have taken this to 2 Toyota dealers and nothing has been done about it.

I've owned two Scion Xbs (2008 & 2009). In extremely hot or cold weather the car doors occasionally lock themselves (either when the keys remain in the car floor or when I take them w/me when I get out). I've reported this to my Toyota dealer on both cars (when going after a key to unlock the car). Their response is to say such is impossible & they have never heard of any other complaints (I reminded the service rep this was my second visit to him). The latest incident occurred during my return from raleigh during a snow storm. Sixty miles from home I stopped to refuel. I exited the car leaving the keys in the ignition (w/engine off). Upon returning from paying for fuel the car was again locked. Not wanting to brake a window to gain access, I called my son to bring my extra key from home. Thankfully I had a warm gas station in which to wait. While this isn't a gas pedal sticking or failing brakes, it does I believe speak to the over-all safety concerns relating to Toyota as a worldwide manufacturer. Please remember, the scion is totally manufactured and assembled in japan (not by the u. S. Work force).

2006 Scion Xb driver door often will not unlock from the inside. Driver must climb out through window or passenger door. Not repaired yet.

The handle for the back hatch on my 2006 Scion Xb has broken. It is still connected by the wires. The handle is very flimsy and there is nothing else to grab onto when trying to open the hatch. I haven't gotten it into the dealer yet, so I don't know how much it will be to fix.

Rear door latch assembly came completely off, disconnected from car door when engaging latch and pulling up in an attempt to open the rear door.

Open the side door or trunk and shut the door. The driver door locks and the other doors are not locked. The only way to open the driver door is key remote. . The drivers door will lock when it wants too. I have had Toyota to look at it and they say they have to see it happen. I have had it in the shop many times and over night and they don't see the problem. They tell me it is brain problem and changed something but it did not save the problem. I am tried of getting out of my car and this door locking on me. Any door can be open except the drivers door. This a safety issue to if I can not get in my car right away. Please help me get this issue solved. I would hate to be in an accident and the door not open because it looked itself.
