The driver seat suddenly went back skipping multiple seat settings. Luckily, I am fairly strong (as well as the steering column) I was able to hold on to the steering wheel until I was able to come to a complete stop. Before the seat failed, I did not change any seat position (I probably adjusted it a week before it happened). It happened again in February, that time it happened to me immediately after putting the automatic transmission in park the seat dropped back one position back. After all this all happened I took my car to my local dealer (Toyota of tampa bay) where they looked at the seat and said they could not find anything wrong. I am slightly suspicious that they did fix something but did not want to admit that there is a problem. This could have caused a serious accident if this happened to someone else or if I was driving faster (e. G. On the interstate) where smaller adjustments to the steering can cause severe injuries, if not fatalities.

Discovered two wires that tore through the fabric on the back of the drivers seat. These exposed metal wires are sharp and can easily cut somebody if they should rub against them. Something has failed inside the seat. Multiple people have the same issue on a dedicated online forum for this vehicle. Not isolated.

1) defective product. 2) passenger seat (back rest) does not retract from reclined position to upright position. Passenger has to exit the vehicle and lift the back rest by hand to straighten it up. All 2009 scions-xbs have the same problem!
3) Toyota claims that is how they designed this car,and cannot (will not) do anything to remedy this problem!
I have compared this year's model to earlier models and they all function normally. We have exchanged several e-mails and phone calls with Toyota/scion customer representatives, and had car at the dealer, their response was the same its the design. My opinion is that is a defective product, since there is no other vehicle make and model with the same problem!.
