Was leaving the house, got in car, started engine, put my foot on the brake then put the gear shift into reverse and proceeded to pull out of garage when all of a sudden for no reason whatsoever the car just took off on its own too fast, while my foot was still on the brake, the car accelerated too quickly and I nearly crashed into the neighbor's garage door.

5 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

My scion experienced loss of stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes during a snow storm in winter 2012. Warning lights for abs, brakes and vsc on the gauge cluster illuminated at that time. While driving at slow speed in the storm I realized that abs was not working. The warning lights remained lit for about two days, then went out and did not return until December 2013. My vehicle was in California during the winter of 2013, and did not experience any loss of abs, brakes, vsc or traction control or illuminated warning lights. In December 2013 while driving in a light snow, approx 2 inches, exiting a local highway and approaching a stop sign at 25 mph I put pressure on the brakes to stop. My car spun around 360 degrees. I hit a snow bank and came to a stop. The entire time the vehicle stability system did not activate. The three warning lights for abs, brakes and vcs are now continuosly lit. Anti-lock brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control still do not function.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/22/2013

I was coming to a stop and my brakes stuttered and seemed as if they locked up. Immediately after my brake, abs, vsc and traction control lights came on. Minutes later they turned off but since then keep coming on and going off. The roads were very dry no rain or snow conditions. It has happened multiple times in the past week. Now I am scared to drive my car for the time being before they can get me into look at it. $120 to diagnose it and who knows how much afterwards. I have had this car for almost 5 years with only 80 miles on it when I purchased it. I am very upset for how much I've had to replace on this car. I only drive it to work and home with the occasional errands. Is it worth shelling out another $1000. This should be looked into for a recall.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/08/2013

Sudden forceful braking 2 times in a 15 mile commute . Driving 55 mph with my foot firmly on the gas pedal, the car suddenly brake hard enough to tighten my seatbelt. 4 dash lights came on . Abs, brake, and traction control were all solid and vsc was flashing. Luckily the car behind me was alert enough not to rear-end me. The dash lights mentioned above come on and go off occasionally.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

It had rained earlier in the day, but by the time of the incident, the rain had been over for a few hours. I was driving at 35 mph, and I reached a hill in the road, and I pressed on the accelerator to increase my momentum. I then eased off the accelerator pedal, but the accelerator pedal didn't ease up with me. Instead, it kept going down. I tried the brakes. They were locked up. After seeing all the horror stories of Toyota's floor mats, I immediately ripped my floor mat out from under my feet and threw it in the passenger seat. The car continued to accelerate up the hill. I tried the brakes again. Nothing. Then I reached down, and tried to pull the gas pedal up. I pulled as hard as I could, but the pedal stayed stuck. I looked down at my feet to make sure that I was not accidentally pressing the accelerator, but I was not. By this point in time, my car had increased its speed from the 35 mph to 65 mph. As I crested the top of the hill and ran through a stop light, I slammed on my brakes with all my strength. It took all my strength to slow the car down to about 40 mph from the 65 mph it had been at the top of the hill. I, then, slipped the car into neutral, and continued pressing on the brakes, which were still fighting me. The car's engine was still revving as if I had my foot firmly pressed down on the gas. By the time I was 20 ft away from another intersection and a red light in my direction and a green light for the cross-flowing traffic, I managed to get my car down to 10 mph. I had no time. I could either force it into park or go swiftly into oncoming traffic in the intersection. So I put it in park, but even in park the engine continued to rev as if I still had my foot pressing down on the gas pedal. The only thing that got the engine to stop revving was turning off the vehicle, but even then the engine continued to go for another 10 to 15 seconds.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 09/26/2011

Driving on an access road, a car stopped suddenly on front of me at low speed, and I stepped on brakes hard and they did not work. Have had acceleration problems in past and reported to dealership. Car was included in the recall of cruise control sticking and acceleration and odometer going out and dashboard. Airbags deployed prematurely and did not inflate fully. Service light sticking preventing inspection until dealership can order part resulting in two traffic violations of no inspection even though presenting documentation of seeking inspection and failed. Replaced part on service bullentin, replaced three windshields having nothing hitting it but cracking anyway, back trunk handle broke, glove compartment broke, seat belt problems, car total lossed by insurance company even though front had no damage visable, severe damage to front bumper underneath=six thousand dollar estimate-no transportation now-unsafe car , was loyal Toyota customer but this is not a safe car four sets of tires before forty thousand miles, factory put wrong size on care, private tire company identified problem and tire rims were damaged. This was a rip off car. Bought new-never again.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 05/03/2011

Defective brakes or related problem with 2008 Scion Xb model. When vehicle comes to a stop, a loud, low/downward pitched sound occurs and it feels like either the brakes are grinding or something related to the drive train is having a problem. This is an intermittent problem, but occurs most often after the car has sit idle for awhile. Toyota technicians drove the car for 2 days and said they experienced/heard the problem, but were not sure what it was or how to fix it. They lubed the front brake glide pins and adjusted shim pan and charged me $120 even though the car is under warranty. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem and I am worried that the car braking system may fail while I am driving the car.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/29/2010

In my 2008 scion tc (scroll down options would not allow me to select this model), I experience momentary failure of the brakes. This occurs when I drive over a pot hole, railroad tracks, etc. & attempt to brake at the same time. The brakes do not "catch" so to speak, and gives a feeling that they are just "bouncing" around, instead of actually slowing or stopping the car. This has occured at least 3 times since I purchased the car in 2008. It most recently occured last month.

Winter brake problems-on cold days (30 and below)the right rear caliber locks and will not release. This problem occurs when the emergency brakes are on and the tempature is 30 or below. When the emergency brakes are released, only the one right rear caliber stays locked. I had to drive the vehicle to get the caliber hot enough to release the brakes. I can not use my emergency brakes at all!.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

On 12/08/09 I took my 09 scion xd (your form does not have xd option) into hoselton for the recall regarding the braking system. Two days later (12/10/09), I am driving home and approaching a turn off of route 104 travelling about 35 miles per hour (a 55 mph road) when. I had slowed down from a top speed of 45 mph, blowing snow and traffic was slow. I go to hit my brakes - I have no brakes, the pedal goes to the floor. I pump the brakes a eventually get a rough (da,da,da) grab, this combined with down shifting allows me to take my turn. I called hoselton and they will see me ASAP. However, I could get no straight answer about whether or not it was safe to drive my vehicle. I was told "I you (as in me) don't think it's safe then you should have it towed. " at my expense. Please provide me any information on the true safety of my cars braking system. And what action I may take if the braking system is not safe.

17 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 02/17/2009

My 2008 scion tc has been having braking problems since I bought it in 2007. The brake is slow to stop the vehicle, and I have many times been in a situation where my car crossed over the stopping lines at the intersections. Every time the problem occurred, I was panic and terrified because I pressed hard on the braking pedal but it did not immediately stop the vehicle. The problem is worse when it is raining. When I pressed hard on the braking pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake seemed to touch the road. I could feel something in the braking system crashing on the road until I stop pressing the braking pedal. I have driven many different cars, and they did not have braking problems I my scion tc has.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

I purchased my 2009 scion xd on December 30, 2008. On January 4, 2009, my brakes froze up and I wasn't able to drive my car, it wouldn't budge because the brakes were frozen. I immediately called the dealership where I purchased my car 5 days earlier, markquart Toyota in eau claire WI, and spoke to the service manager. He said that there wasn't anything he could do because it wasn't a factory defect. I couldn't go to work that day and my step father, a retired mechanic had to take off my tires and thaw my brakes with a hair dryer. . . Then 10 months later, I get the recall notice for the brake intake manifold! later on in this report I will select Scion Xb because xd isn't a choice.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Accelerated (took off) while driving at highway speed (5 incidences). . . Originally I thought it was a problem with my aftermarket cruise control. I called dealership and reported that they should not recommend aftermarket cruise at the time. . . They claimed no other problems. After 2nd incidence cruise control was replaced by installer and he called the company. . . None was familiar with the problem on my cruise module (he showed me how to disconnect cruise under the hood since current still runs through mechanism since cruise was in off position during 2nd incident). . . The problem then happened again (3 times in same day on way to airport)with new cruise mechanism. No problems in last 2 years, but it's a daily gamble. . . Now I have to wonder if the cruise was ever even part of the equation in the problem with all the accelerator and other problems I've read online. I checked with the dealership again this year and they deny any problem with scion accelerators or brake not depressing (it always felt like my brake and gas were fighting like if you 2 footed in a manual equally, but I own a automatic. . . It's very scary).

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Numerous times my 2004 Toyota scionxb required me to sometimes put both feet on the brake when stopped at a red light due to the engine racing. When I told Toyota service about it, they couldn't find anything wrong. June 1, 2005 approaching a kids playground area at 30mph, I put on brakes as the car in front of me was about to make a right turn. The brake did not hold, I hit the rear of the car ahead of me , I braked again and hit the car again. No damage to the other car but I was cited for a major accident, 1st one in 50 yrs of driving including 15 as a school bus driver. I always believed something wasn't right with the brakes and with the current Toyota brake problems I believe the Scion Xb shouldn't be ignored. I never felt safe after the accident and got rid of it.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb
