2 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

On 9/14/15 around 7am my power steering was working great, but 30 min. When I turned my car on I saw the steering wheel warning indicator has turned on. Not knowing anything I drove my car to an autobody to have it checked and they told me it was the electric mechanism that needs to be fixed and to bring my car into the dealer for further investigation. Later that day I drove my car to the dealer with a really stiff steering wheel. The next day the dealer called and told me that the power steering will need to be replaced because it was inoperative, so I had them replace the part and the total has put a hole in my wallet. I have had this car since July 2007 and it hasn't even been 10 years yet that part is not functional anymore.

5 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 03/28/2015

I drove the vehicle on Saturday evening and experienced no problems. Returned to the vehicle on Sunday to attend church and the power steering would not function. I checked the fuses and they were not blown. The vehicle is almost impossible to drive without the power steering unit working. I live forty (40) miles from a dealer repair shop. It will be very expensive to have a wrecker service pick up the vehicle and haul to the dealer.

6 Steering problem of the 2006 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

Was leaving the house, got in car, started engine, put my foot on the brake then put the gear shift into reverse and proceeded to pull out of garage when all of a sudden for no reason whatsoever the car just took off on its own too fast, while my foot was still on the brake, the car accelerated too quickly and I nearly crashed into the neighbor's garage door.

7 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

I was driving my car down the road and, all of a sudden, the power steering completely stopped working which really caught me off guard. When this happened, I couldn't maintain control of the car but slowed down enough so that I eventually could steer it (very hard to steer). This could have caused a very serious accident or injury or fatality since it caught me completely by surprise. I wasn't very far from my scion dealer and I carefully drove right over there and they told me that the power steering ecu computer had failed (the car has electronic steering) and would need to be replaced at a very high cost ($800). So, my car is sitting and waiting for a new computer which they didn't have and had to order. This is a terrible and very dangerous safety problem. I'm a fairly strong male and was able to regain control of the car, but if an elderly person or someone small and not strong was driving, they might not have been able to avoid an accident or fatality. This absolutely should not happen (especially in a car like mine with around 73,000 miles) and is, in my opinion, an extremely serious safety issue which needs to be investigated and compensation needs to be made by the manufacturer for repairs involving this problem. This is not an isolated problem involving 2008 Scion Xb cars, and many others have experienced it as an internet search clearly shows. Again, this is a serious safety issue which needs to be investigated immediately and a recall is clearly justified in this case.

8 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

My 17yr old daughter was driving 30mph through an intersection, attempting a turn, when the power steering went completely out. She wasn't able to complete turn, almost had a wreck. She was completely overwhelmed and scared out of her mind when she made it home(her calls to me on cell weren't coming through for some reason). We purchased this car used, but had been very well maintained and had only 24k miles on it, so didn't think an extended warranty was needed. Unfortunately, it had 71k on it at the time of incident. I have seen multiple cases of this make/model with this same issue. Is someone going to have to die before this part gets recalled??? it could've been my daughter!.

10 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 10/13/2012

Total loss of power steering. Warning light was displayed on the dash. Toyota is aware of this issue. There was a TSB issued but I'm told my VIN isn't one effected. Problem is a defective computer (ecm) under the driver dash. Loss of power steering is a major safety concern. Toyota downplayed it as an isolated incident. It only took me 4 minutes to diagnose the problem because of the amount of complaints.

12 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

I own 2008 Scion Xb which currently has 87000 miles on it. 4 weeks ago today I was pulling out of my driveway and from 1st gear to second gear the car jerked hard and all vsa, abs, check engine lights came on, and car wouldn't shift out of gear and steering began to act funny. I had vehicle towed to mechanic in fear of driving it ant further. Mechanic ran diagnostic on car and code read transmission sensor no good. They replaced and problem is still occurring, lights on as well. Mechanic had 3 other mechanics come and evaluate and as well inquired with local Toyota dealership who suggested only that it may be wiring harness below battery which is a recurring problem, also that they would gladly look at the car for 90 per hour! mechanics looked at harness and all looked to be in good working shape. The car is still parked and not repaired 4 weeks later.

13 Steering problem of the 2010 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

2010 Scion Xb-the steering will sometimes feel as if it just gives out. It only happens for about 2 seconds-but when it does it is very frightening. I have felt it happen twice now-the first time I was on a ramp and it felt as if the car was going to go straight off the ramp--but it kept curving as it should-then control of the steering was restored and I was fine.

14 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 11/12/2008

I bought a 2008 scion xd in September 2008. 6 weeks after I bought the car, I totaled it when steering on an on-ramp to the highway. It spun three times and finally stopped after hitting the guardrail. I was alone. I got whiplash. I am a very experienced driver but the car lost absolute control at a low speed (under 25 mph) but on wet blacktop in the fall in new england. . The car was $30 from being classified as a total. The body shop was owned by the dealer - not sure if the $30 discrepancy had anything to do with that. They also said the frame/unibody was slightly off and left me with a totally valueless car with 3,000 miles on it. Since then I do not trust the steering of the car. It does seem to swim at speeds over 55 - 60 mph - almost a hydroplaning feel to the steering on dry pavement. I wonder what it will take for it to be recalled?.

15 Steering problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 06/14/2008

The contact owns a 2009 Scion Xb. Whenever the vehicle was driven after a cold start the brakes made a grinding noise for the first 5 minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for each failure, however the contact was informed that none of the failures could be reproduced or serviced. The contact has noticed the failures since the day he purchased the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 26500.
