The first time my brakes stopped working was in the endings of may of 2010, I was in a bumby road going about 45 mph. I was nearing a stop sign and my brakes would not work. The brake pedal would touch the floor until I received signals that it was working. It did this about 3-4 times. I took my car in that same day and nothing was found to be wrong. Six months later, this same incident happened again. But this time I was in a traffic area and people around. My brakes would not work, they were again doing the same thing. I contacted a specialest from Toyota scion and he came a week later and inspected my car and found nothing wrong. But he did actually do something about it, which was great. He replaced my brake cylinder. So after this second time I thought it wouldn't happend again. But it was a much shorter time frame than the last 2. The third time was on February 14, 2011, only 3 months from the 2nd,. Now I just don't feel safe driving my vehicle. I have a child, and a little sister that often ride with me. I don't want there to be a bad accident where I wont be able to brake at all. Not only that, but my brakes shouldn't be doing this in the first place.
I have a 2004 Scion Xb. Throughout the life of the car, I have experienced similar braking issues to the ones currently being described for the 2010 prius: momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over an uneven road surface, pothole or bump. On 2 or 3 occasions I have brought it to the attention of my Toyota dealer when I've had the car in for routine service, but they have said they couldn't replicate the issue and therefore could not address the problem until they can experience it to see what the problem is. I'm not sure wht type of brakes I have on this car.
