6 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

The vsc track and engine lights came on at the same time at exactly 108,000 miles. This has been a very reliable vehicle except when it seems the computer parts are programmed to fail. I use to commute in heavy slow traffic in southern California when my brake light would come on when using the brakes in traffic. The dealer could not find a problem. . The brake light will go off after the key is turned off and back on again however the vsc/track light still on appear t be a computer defect. I see many problems with this could lead to vehicle tipping big problem maybe this issue is related to Toyotas vehicles super accelerating just a thought!.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/17/2010

The throttle stuck in the closed position while we were traveling on the highway maintaining 65 mph. The vsc and engine lights came on. There was suddenly no acceleration and response from the pedal so we came to a stop on the side of the road with the car in drive and the engine still on. I had a near collision when this happened a week prior in the middle of an intersection and the acceleration was lost. This is fixed temporarily by turning the engine off and back on again 5 minutes later. I had to get the whole throttle body replaced. This happened at 85,000 miles. This happened with the same vehicle at 48,000 miles 3 years ago and they seemed to fix it by cleaning the throttle control sensor really good. I've seen reports of others experiencing this as well on line. This should be a recall item. . . Thank god we are still alive!.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/03/2009

The vsc track, trac off and emergency light of my 2004 Toyota Sequoia, came on, on about October, 2009. I took it to the Toyota dealer, they told me that I had to replace, oxygen sensors, a new battery, and skid control computer. Total more than $2000. 00. I was told that if I don't replace the skid control computer, my break system can fail and consequently loose control of the vehicle. It sounded like a major defect and expensive repair and I was puffered as to why there wasn't any recall on such problem. After the car was serviced, the vsc track, track off, and emergency light came on again in less than a week. . This time the computer told them that :there was air in the fuel system. This is their remedy for "I need to close and seal the fueling cap after each fueling. " I do seal the fuel cap everytime after refuel. I don't recall that I ever miss one time. They reset the system and sent me off. I was wondering if the first repair was ever necessary, maybe the skid control computer never failed. It was just air in the fuel system.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/29/2009

While driving a 2002 Toyota Sequoia sr5 2 wheel drive SUV near the end of March 2009, the trac off, vsc trac, brake and abs warning lights simultaneously came on. I was traveling approximately 55 mph on a dry road at night in heavy traffic. I moved off the highway to check the manual which emphasized the possible seriousness of each light. It said to contact a Toyota dealer. I called earnhardt Toyota in mesa arizona who finally worked on the vehicle several days later for the vsc/trac/brake/abs problem, and a front brake vibration/pulsation. No help on the pulsation problem since I was told I needed to turn the rotors again. On the vehicle stability control/traction control/anti-lock braking system/brake warning lights, the service associate offered that it was a "common" problem, could be caused by a loose gas cap or an expensive computer (in the thousands of dollars). He sated that no "codes" were set other than a "low voltage" which could be caused by a bad battery or corroded connection. I cleaned the battery terminals completely, checked the battery, and made sure the gas cap was tight. The warning lights now come on at some point every time I drive the Sequoia. Earnhardt Toyota told me it should not affect the actual braking systems. How do they know that? being told of a false continuous or intermittent safety warning light can lull one into a questionable sense of safety. These lights and safety systems need to work reliably without having Toyota just say they know about this common problem. Does it affect actual vehicle stability control and emergency braking? on numerous internet sites, I find this same problem is mentioned frequently. Also a large number of complaints are on file now with the NHTSA. I rely on the warning lights and their underlying systems to work as advertised, but Toyota now makes me doubt that reliance. Does there have to be a large "body count" for NHTSA to order a recall to fix this well known safety problem?.
