2 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/07/2025

After exiting the vehicle on 3/7/2025, I opened the rear passenger door (driver’s side) to get my son out of his carseat. I noticed the seatbelt was not attached at the base. In other words, the seatbelt mechanism was not attached to the vehicle. See photos. The black cover which conceals the bolt that holds the seatbelt to the vehicle was also detatched. On 3/10/25 we brought the vehicle to mechanicsville Toyota and they have requested to keep it overnight. There were no warning lamps or other signs of failure. The seatbelt bolt was not torqued properly at the factory.

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/08/2024

The drivers seat belt sometime does not retract. One of the seat belts in the middle row retracts slowly or sometimes does not retract. Another seatbelt is very tough to pull out to buckle. I just purchased this vehicle so I’m not sure how long the seatbelts have been an issue.

4 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/27/2021

Driver's seat belt buckle will come unbuckled while driving, this has happened several times while driving and I ihave had to re-buckle it and it may stay buckled or it can come out again. I am afraid if I was to get into an accident that the seat belt will become unbuckled and not hold me in the seat.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/08/2015

My wife first noticed the problem with our brand new Toyota Sequoia while driving. The slip indicator icon and the srs warning light icon stays on. She called me at work and I told her that she might have pressed the vsc button that caused this problem. The next day I used the car and drove my daughter to school for about 8 miles and did not notice any of the lights in the dashboard. The day after when I was driving with my wife we noticed the same icons she was telling me in addition to the blinking passenger seatbelt icon even if she was wearing her seatbelt on. Also it shows that her passenger airbag is off. These problems with the dashboard lights would turn off once you restart the car and then it would go back while driving. There are also instances where it occur the moment you start the car. We even brought the car to Toyota dealership to have it checked but I forgot not to turn off the engine, and when I did the icons wasn't lit. We told the service staff that'll go back the next day to have it check. We thought it was just a glitch and we drove in the highway for 60miles back and forth and saw no icons until we're about to reach home that we saw the familiar icons once again. We're bringing the car to Toyota service tomorrow to have it checked.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/28/2015

Our two year old is in a properly secured rear-facing britax toddler car seat. She is in the second row on the driver side. As we were driving our six year old alerted us to her distress. She had managed to grab the seat belt for the middle sit (second row) and wrapped it around her neck. She was struggling to get out but when she pulled it to her, she pulled it all the way out so the more she struggled, the tighter the seat belt around her neck got. Had our six year old not alerted us, this could've ended terribly. We immediately pulled over, got her unbuckled from her car seat to pull her closer to the seat belt for enough slack to get her head and neck out of the strangling of the seat belt. Immediately after the incident, our two year old clung tightly to mom and cried with red marks around her neck. She was scared to get back in the car. Dad took the middle seat belt and wrapped it around a head rest tightly to get it out of the toddlers reach.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/21/2015

I barely tapped thr back of an old Toyota corolla and at a low speed where no damage was done to either vehicle beside mine when the airbags unnecessarily deployed and shattered my windshield. When I took it to my body shop guy he said there was no way the airbags should've deployed he had checked my sensors and they had not been touched. About a month ago I took my car to my local Toyota dealership for someone to come up from I believe atlanta and inspect my car. I never could get a response from him. Testerday I called my local Toyota inquiring about my airbags problem and they said yours were recalled new ones are here bring your car here in the morning and it'll take about three hours to fix. I was excited to finally get somewhere with this issue. . . This morning I take my car up there and they tell me that it wasnt recalled and to call the guy who cane down and inspected it. I am not happy with the way this is being handled and how no one will take responsibility for this defect and fix it.

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

The second row passenger side seat belt mechanism is defective and does not recoil consistently. We are concerned to put our children in this particular seat because the seat belt sometimes gets jammed and does not recoil making for a very unsafe situation. We cannot reliably trust this equipment. Our vehicle has very low mileage for it's age and we do not believe this defective part is cause by us because we do not always drive it with people in the back seat. I called Toyota experience and they said that my vehicle is out of warranty and that I could have it fixed at my cost. In my opinion, this is a safety issue cause by poor manufacturing which in my opinion should be a recall situation. I will bring the vehicle in to the dealer over the next couple weeks but I wanted to file a complaint so that it is investigated properly so others can get it fixed.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

When attempting to buckle two different seat belts in the third row, the clipping mechanism does not latch onto the belt latch. This leaves two seats in the rear non-functional.

15 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

The seats belt on my 2008 Toyota Sequoia stopped latching. They are located in the middle rear section of the car. Two of the three stopped working within a week of each other. I am at the dealer (eastern shore Toyota) now and they will only replace the one not latching. The other one has an intermittent issue with latching and has come unlatched before with my child in a booster seat. Why Toyota doesn't fix this today is beyond me. I guess they are o. K. With it coming unlatched. After all it's not their kid in the back seat. The seat belts are still under warranty, however Toyota will not fix it if they cannot recreate the problem. Shouldn't this be a major recall?.

16 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/13/2011

On August 13, 2011 while traveling on I-75 south of atlanta a vehicle left the road & attempted to return and over corrected, he struck our Sequoia with such force in the rear driver side passenger door that the rear of the our Sequoia immediately turned sideways and we begin to flip. After flipping we landed on the passenger side and slid approx 1/4 of a mile before coming to resting place in the median on the passengers side. My wife &13 year old son were severely injured, myself and my other 2 sons sustained injuries but none were life threatening. Neither my wife's nor my sons seat belt locked and once the windows blew out my son was dragged down the interstate causing severe injuries to his head, back, arm and leg. My wife sustained worse injuries, her arm 6 inches & 6 inches below her elbow was cut off. None of the side curtain airbags deployed and neither seatbelt "fired" properly allowing my wife and son to sustain life altering injuries. No one doubts that if the safety features we paid additional $ for had functioned properly, the outcome could have been much better. Soon after the accident I contacted Toyota to have the incident investigated. An "independent" investigator read the vehicle edr (blackbox) soon thereafter I received a letter stating that Toyota had no responsibility. When I called and spoke to the Toyota rep that signed the letter, he was immediately on the defensive. He yelled and tried using intimidation techniques to get me to "go away". My wife is now permanently disabled and unable to work as an rn. I have owned 7 Toyota vehicles & paid extra for the side curtain airbags, we as consumers have been deceived by Toyota selling us on safety and reliability. I will never own another Toyota. I take every opportunity to tell other perspective car purchasers my story & the failure of Toyota to take care of their loyal owners. Buyer beware.
