1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

In August 2025, autonation Toyota on sahara, checked the VIN of my Toyota Sienna and contacted Toyota while I was present. Toyota confirmed a broken fuel-door hinge was covered under a customer support program. Instead, autonation attempted to repair, rather than replace, the hinge. This caused the metal fuel cap door to end up bent, paint to be gouged out from the bottom of the fuel door area, misalignment of the fuel door, and therefore issues with the door’s sensor reading correctly. I took the van back until they received shipment of a new fuel cap door. After the attempted repair, since the fuel door no longer aligned, the safety sensors repeatedly activated which strained the sliding-door ecu. The passenger sliding door began freezing intermittently, forcing my children to exit through the trunk several times. Finally, the door opened on its own as I was driving down the street. These issues did not exist prior to dealership service and presented a clear safety concern. Between October and December, I received conflicting explanations from gerald, james, ivan, and rudy at autonation Toyota regarding whether the issue involved the fuel door, ecu, motor, or general wear and tear. Autonation repeatedly failed to return my calls or respond to the emails I sent them. Toyota corporate also informed me the dealership was also not responding to their outreach attempts after I contacted them due to not being able to get ahold of autonation Toyota. I emailed four managers on October 15 with detailed documentation and received no response. My vehicle remains unsafe, unrepaired, and in the possession of autonation Toyota. I approve allowing it to be inspected. While at autonation, the vehicle driver could not open the passenger sliding door after autonation's attempted repair. They have had my van for 4 months now so no one else has looked at or inspected it. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

I have had this car for 7 years. Started having issues a year ago and despite bringing it to Toyota 2x, they cannot tell me what the issue is. I will be driving on a regular flat paved road when the car will suddenly brake and pull me towards the side of the road. I get the abs code sometimes and also the slip indicator light. I've explained this each x I've brought it in and they have told me it's due to me "driving too fast" or "accidentally having my foot on the brake. " lol I am a typical soccer mom and drive conservatively and don't brake when I don't have to. It will do it on curving roads as well as straight roads. When this happens, it is terrifying! I have gone to different mechanics as well and no one can determine this issue. I've replaced the abs sensors on this and am still having this issue. I don't know what else to do, as this is unsafe and unsafe to the extent that I no longer allow my 17 year old to drive it. Please help!!!!!!!!.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2023

All interior dome/lights (door side lights, visor mirror lights, all overhead passenger lights, etc) not lighting up at all. Fuse in engine compartment is good. Vehicle has been at auto dealership where originally purchased. Safety concerns are that at night, unable to determine if there has been access by person or if person is actually in vehicle. Vehicle diagnoses was begun on 6/12/2023 and is still in process of issues. Received a call from the service representative on 6/19/2023 that water had accumulated under the fuse box in the engine compartment causing corrosion at the connection of the wire harness to the underside of the fuse box. Initially this caused the the internal lights to fail. There is much more corrosion occurring which will eventually cause a complete electrical failure and possible engine failure/fire. Current recommendation from service manager is to completely replace the wire harness at a cost of $7,000+. Insurance may or may not cover the cost of repair. The insurance adjuster is meeting today with the service manager. In my opinion, this is a serious defect in Toyota Sienna manufacturing, design and materials used.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2022

We got into an accident today, and none of the sliding doors would not slide open. It would not even allow us to pull the doors opens. The vehicles electrical was damaged, but that should not prevent the other doors from opening. This is a very bad situation if someone is needing to evacuate the vehicle. The rear passengers would be trapped. Please address this issue with Toyota ASAP. People who usually have vans have big families and small children. This would be a very bad situation if vehicle needed to be evacuated ASAP. The rear passengers would be stuck.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

The vehicle rear sliding door had a recall. I had the recall preformed at smithtown Toyota. After the correction was done. I continue to have same issues with the drivers side rear sliding door. Where it will not open when pushing the open button on my controls in the front. Or when my child 12 years old attempts to manually open the door. As this does not happen all the times. The dealer says they can not replicate the problem and it is working to manufacture standards. I spoke with Toyota corporate and they are aware of continued problems with the sliding rear doors. The have a customer support group, but I would have to pay for the dealer to inspect the vehicle. I have extended warranty so they said I wouldn't then have to pay. However every time you take it in with a problem they can never replicate the problem. They are not the only dealer with this response. It must be a set line throughout all brands as its always that answer until your warranty expires. When it expires then all of a sudden they can find all problems and fix everything.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2019

Driving 35-55 mph and going around (usually) a left curve on the highway or interstate, van suddenly brakes, swerves, and traction control/vehicle stability control light pops on. Whole episode lasts a second or two, then its fine. It wont happen again for the duration of the trip. I only drive the van on weekends, and it has happened three times in the past two weeks. It has nearly caused a serious accident.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

Passenger side power sliding door constantly malfunctioning. It opened after a bump while traveling 65 mph on the interstate. We had to pull over to close the door. It also deployed the wheelchair ramp while moving because the power door is the same side as the ramp. . Make the manufacturer fix it or make the wheelchair conversion company fix it. Somebody needs to fix this before somebody dies! all this red tape and zero action is insane. People are getting injured while the finger pointing is happening. When will something be done? how many injuries have to occur before an action step occurs?.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2017

Their is a recall on the automatic sliding doors but Toyota has failed to correct the issue. The back doors unlatch automatically and have propelled open twice while I was driving my children!! I brought it into service and they told me they disabled the electronic opening function and I would have to open and close the doors manually until Toyota has permanent solution. It turns out they only pressed the power switch on my dash board and the doors continue to unlatch automatically. I will manually close the door and once driving I hear them trying to open. I've had to pull over and manually shut them tight but last night it flew open while I was driving without any warning that it had unlatched!! I'm paying $420. 00 a month in a lease contract for a car that is unsafe. Toyota has failed to remedy the problem and dealers refuse to help me get out of this vehicle despite the fact that it is dangerous!.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

Our daughter-in-law received an interim recall notice from Toyota yesterday. (safety recall g04). Apparently there is a possibility that the sliding door on the siena can come open while the van is in motion endangering the occupants. In this case, the occupants are our four year grandson, who has down syndrome, and three year old granddaughter. Toyota has declined to disclose whether there have been any accidents, injuries or deaths due to this defect. They are working on a fix but do not have a solution. Toyota's recommendation is to disengage the electronic doors. We viewed that additional cost option as a safety and convenience factor for our daughter-in-law. Surely, a company with the resources of Toyota could come up with a fix concurrently with this notice! minivans are generally driven by families with children.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

2015 Toyota Sienna Mini van bought new. Still covered by 36 month warranty with 30,000 miles. Power sliding doors under recall. Observed significant rust on metal plate bolted on door hinge covering electrical wires. If metal cover rusts thru, could lead to short and electrical door motor failure. Toyota refuses to replace metal cover plate. I feel Toyota should honor warranty and replaced rusted parts.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

My 11-year old son got out of the front passenger side of our staitionary minivan (in park but running), for me to drop him off for a cello lesson. He opened the rear passenger side sliding door to get his cello out. It wasnt opening easily, so I almost simultaneously pushed the button above me on the console. At that point the door started to close on him. It did not stop closing and was pressing him into the door frame. I didn't realize what was happening, and he was too shocked to scream. He was trying to stop it from closing on him, but it kept closing. I expected that the door would automatically sense a blockage, stop and open back. He was only ok because he was strong enough to press back, but his hip was very bruised. I finally realized that the door wasn't opening, and pressed the button again above me and the door stopped. It stripped the wires in the door, and the automatic door is now broken. The electrical or sensing system in this door is faulty.

Nonstop flickering of cruise control illumination at night. Flickering is independent of speed, steering wheel position. Very distracting while driving.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

There was no accident or incident. I'm trying to avoid a potential accident by being forced to see the gauges that are essentially invisible while driving. The standard tachometer and speedometer gauges in this car have dark faces. When driving on a sunny day with sunglasses on, they are almost impossible to see. This is a definite safety issue as one has to look very closely and longer than normal to be able to see one's speed. The optional se model has these instruments with white faces and would be much easier to see in bright conditions. I feel Toyota should retro-fit properly designed gauges to avoid accidents that may occur because the driver was distracted by trying to see the dark gauges!.

Nonstop flickering of cruise control illumination at night. Flickering is independent of speed, steering wheel position. Very distracting while driving. Dealer says no fix available. Toyota corp notified - case opened…. . No fix available. Buyer beware.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

When I get into the Sienna in a parking spot (stationery) and twist the key in the ignition the vehicle starts but the electronic steering does not work. This happens intermittantly. I have to sit there and let the vehicle run for awhile before the steering kicks in. The steering wheel is basically locked and difficult to turn. My greatest fear is that the steering wheel will lock up on me while I am driving and will not be able to steer.
