1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

Pre-collision system malfunction, hybrid system malfunction, awd system malfunction suddenly when restarting the vehicle. Towed to Toyota of downtown la dealership. Toyota of downtown la service tells me that the cpu on my relative new Sienna 2022 was fried from jump start when Sienna starting-battery was low. It was done by a aaa professional, I doubt that is the reason for the fried cpu. I believe Toyota engineers would not design/allow the cpu vulnerable to being fried from a jump start. This is a horrific design flaw if it is this way. This happens now, just 6 months after the 3 year warranty coverage. Toyota of downtown la service is telling me it is going to cost me $2900 to replace this cpu. I find this unacceptable.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/12/2025

The (pcs) precollision system has been already set to low sensitivity, but every once in awhile when pulling in to oncoming traffic the vehicle would think there's still a car and just stalls for a few seconds (nonresponsive to acceleration pedal) leading to a dangerous occurrence where I could be hit by a vehicle because I've basically stopped in an active intersection. My vehicle is clean, so no dirt blocking the sensors, and I also own a 5th gen rav4 without this issue.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2015 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

I have had this car for 7 years. Started having issues a year ago and despite bringing it to Toyota 2x, they cannot tell me what the issue is. I will be driving on a regular flat paved road when the car will suddenly brake and pull me towards the side of the road. I get the abs code sometimes and also the slip indicator light. I've explained this each x I've brought it in and they have told me it's due to me "driving too fast" or "accidentally having my foot on the brake. " lol I am a typical soccer mom and drive conservatively and don't brake when I don't have to. It will do it on curving roads as well as straight roads. When this happens, it is terrifying! I have gone to different mechanics as well and no one can determine this issue. I've replaced the abs sensors on this and am still having this issue. I don't know what else to do, as this is unsafe and unsafe to the extent that I no longer allow my 17 year old to drive it. Please help!!!!!!!!.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

The traction control system commonly malfunctions while making turns on curving road sections. I will lose power through turns as the tcs light blinks on my dashboard and makes a beeping sound. On some occasions the brakes will automatically engage in the tire that the car perceives as experiencing slippage. This problem is continuously worsening and commonly endangers me and my passengers, as the car engages brakes or cuts power to the engine at unexpected and in opportune times.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

When pulling out of a parking lot, the accelerator disables leaving the car unable to move in the middle of the rode for a few seconds. The happens intermittently and usually when there is traffic going both ways in the area. This has happened several times but has not been replicated with a dealership employee during test drive. After the accelerator disables, it will enable after a few seconds. It has left me sitting in the road with cars honking at me. Van is currently in the shop. Brake pedal was not deployed at the same time of acceleration.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2024 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

Vehicle was driving on a slow traffic local street at roughly 10mph. Spacing between car in front of me was around 30 ft. I was gliding towards front and ready to brake. Suddenly the vehicle start to accelerate hard by itself without driver’s operation. I tried to engage brake / gas pedal and was not helping. Front collision system did not activate like it suppose to. I ended up turn sharp right towards road curb and hit pole at average speed of 30mph or less. No air bag deployed. I then switch to park. No warning lights pop up. All safety features on vehicles were turned on before the incident. Whats weird is the car is functioning normal now after incident. I contacted Toyota USA and waiting for feedback.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/04/2023

Pulling into paved parking spot on very slight uphill grade. Tried to apply brake pedal but car kept moving forward about 6ft over curb and crashed into cement wall creating slow speed impact damage to front end. Towed on flat bed to dealers lot. Tow truck driver noted brake seemed loose and had little resistance. Car still under warranty, 28. 8k mi, all warranty required maintenance has been performed to date by dealer. No prior accidents. Annunciation on screen after event saying "parking support brake malfunction visit your dealer" message has subsequently remained. Large number of same or similar annunciation messages over last 4 yrs reported on Toyota nation web site. Messages indicate that TSB-019-19 may apply and/or dtc c13b0. However, service manager at dealer has refused to investigate this and similar diagnostics to explain safety systems failure or otherwise repair under warranty agreement, unless we first sign a release for personal injury liability with Toyota legal department. Dealer has advised it is not safe to drive car in its present condition. Please note similar complaint sent a few days ago on this web site (no response so far) but there was an error in reported VIN so this is a resend.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

Issues with vsc. The sensor alarm goes off when driving at more than 50 mph and slightly turning the steering wheel. The car brakes itself and this is dangerous. It happens all the time, it has been more than 5-6 years and we are to the point of not using the car on the freeway to prevent a potential fatal accident. I found posts describing the same issue with this model of Toyota. Car should be recalled to get this fixed.

The slip indicator light and alarm comes on sporadically, engaging the abs suddenly and unexpectedly, when we are on completely dry roads. Happens while driving 40-80 mph. And doesn’t matter if I’m going straight or turning.

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/03/2022

I was driving on dry road at approximately 65mph. There was a very slight curve in the road and the abs system engaged without warning resulting in the van power immediately decreasing and fishtailing. Fortunately there was no one immediately behind or beside me or it would have resulted in a collision. I am afraid to use the vehicle. Used a code reader and there are no stored codes.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

Driving on dry pavement in mountainous terrain the slip indicator light/sound activates temporarily and the brakes can engage by themselves! usually happens during right turns. I've been to several automotive specialists for mechanical & electronic diagnosis. I've replaced the lower control arm & the clock spring behind the steering wheel but the issue persists. Online searches indicate this is a common problem with Toyota Siennas that is extremely difficult to diagnose & very costly to replace all the possible problematic components! I've had this problem since buying the car used several months ago. This should be a recall issue!!!!!!!!!!!.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/13/2022

Vehicle trac control/abs system engages periodically especially on winding roads between speeds of 30-60mph. Trac control alarm goes off and vehicle pumps brakes automatically, then resolves. This is extremely dangerous especially when roads are wet/icy or when being followed too closely by another vehicle. Tried replacing front right wheel speed sensor but problem persists. Research shows this is a chronic problem with Sienna vans and needs to be repaired or guidance provided by Toyota on how to resolve before someone gets hurt. Please help!.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/06/2022

I got the software recall fix last week. Today is the first time I have had any issues. 2 time today the emergency braking activated. First time I was leaving mcdonald’s parking lot. I waited for a car to pass then I took off to get on the road. The emergency braking system activated leaving me halfway in the parking lot and part way in the road. I thought that was weird. The a few minutes later I arrived at home and started backing into the driveway like I always do. As I was backing into the driveway a car started to pass on the road in front of me. The car emergency braking system activated leaving me part way in the road and driveway was the car passed. I have saved the ring camera footage of me arriving home in case it is needed.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

Our Sienna has had incidents of unintendedly accelerated a minimum of 25 times. I have been unable to stop the vehicle several time to the point where I have had to go through a lighted stop intersection. There have been numerous "close calls” where I have nearly hit the vehicle in front of me. My wife, while driving to pick up my 4 children, actually bumped into a vehicle in front of her. It is a serious risk to expect that I drive the vehicle with my wife and 4 kids inside, yet Toyota expects I will drive the Sienna for over a month while they wait to get the report back about the vehicle. I am not willing to put my life at risk along with my wife and four children while we wait for Toyota to address the issue. We brought the Sienna in after the initial few close calls (March 14, 2022), and they were unable to find anything wrong. After receiving the vehicle back, the issue continued. Once my wife was in an accident with the Sienna, we have decided we will not be driving it until we are assured it has been resolved. It was brought back to Toyota on April 19, 2022). At this point and I not confident Toyota will be able to fix the issue. Toyota has deemed the car safe to use; even though they have not received back the report. It's reckless and immoral to knowingly place someone in a vehicle that has already caused 1 accident (although thankfully very minor) and something I am unwilling to do. Meanwhile Toyota has offered nothing to keep me safe or offered a vehicle in the meantime. The forward collision does not work. The entire vehicle is available for inspection. I am not certain what Toyota has inspected, but an inspection was performed on may 10th and the results will not be available until June 13th. Problem is not able to be reproduced as the car has not been driven. The warning sign prior to the accident was numerous other near misses.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/08/2022

While driving vehicle on dry, non slippery roads with slight to moderate curves, vehicle illuminates traction loss light, sounds alarm buzzer, and at times applies brakes and dethrottles engine, even when no loss of traction has occurred. This happens while driving on straight roads with slight unevenness. Had to disconnect wheel speed sensor harness to disable abs/vsc system. When this happens, the vehicle automatically applies brakes to certain wheels and dethrottles the engine, this can pull the vehicle to one side sharply and can cause an accident.

19 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/23/2021

When driving my 2005 Toyota Sienna van tonight, the traction control system engaged suddenly on a slight turn at highway speeds, the abs system automatically engaged and the van pulled to the right, I had to forcibly muscle the steering wheel to remain on the road, in addition to pulling to the right the abs braking system suddenly and unexpectedly slowed me down from 55 to 30 mph and the alarm sounded. After stopping to check things out, I proceeded cautiously toward home, the same thing happened 2 more times, so I stopped and turned off the "traction control system" button. The same thing happened one more time even with the vsa button off. I got online at home and found that this is quite a common issue that Toyota is aware of. This put me and my family at risk and others at severe risk!this is a critical safety issue! please tell me how to fix it. Many reports of dealerships ripping people off and not fixing the issue. Should be a simple recall fix.

20 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/10/2021

Keep in mind: brand new Sienna!!! 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -the main and most important component was the entire airbag system which displayed "malfunctioned" only after the collision. The tpcs (Toyota pre-collision system) also was defaulted to "off" and said that the sonar malfunctioned. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -very compromised! my whole family and my children would've been seriously injured or departed from this world had we not had the seat belt on and the way it all played out! all of the airbags, including the driver's knee airbag, passenger seat cushion airbag, front seat side airbags, rear outboard seat side airbags, and curtain side airbags for all three rows , malfunctioned and car was in a standstill on the fastest left lane #1 on I-95 with no cushioning or failsafe mechanism active 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -no, and Toyota was very quick and desperate to get their hands on my vehicle and to get me to sign their authorization instead of wait. As a computer scientist, I know when information systems can be exploited/manipulated and all my driving data and accident/metadata is collected constantly by Toyota so in short: "no transparency" 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -yes, two very biased partisans involve: the liable party's insurance (allstate) and Toyota motor CO. So I need some nonpartisan assessment/evaluation ASAP 5. Any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -nope! no warning lamps, no vehicle health messages, no Toyota app notification prior to the accident. Everything mentioned in the last sentence went haywire exactly after the collision and displayed lamps/played warning alarms non stop. Refer to uploaded files.

21 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/10/2021

While driving at approximately 30 to 50 mph, on dry and smooth pavement, usually going on or off ramp to the left, the skid control engaged and warning sound came on, automatic brake takes over and start braking the van uncontrollably, pulling the vehicle to the right and nearly causing accidents.

22 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/08/2021

I had the control arms replaced, then one of the bolts came out after a few thousand miles. I had that bolt replaced and the problem started happening intermittently after that. Everything will be functioning fine and then the speed of my vehicle is inhibited and it is hard to accelerate. It is very difficult to get from 40 mph up to 50 mph. On slight curves, not always, it will beep and the slip indicator light comes on and will apply the brakes on what feels like one side. This has happened at 35-60 mph. The slip indicator will beep sometimes until I decrease my speed to under 25 mph. I took it into a reputable tire and front end shop and they replaced a wheel bearing with sensor, and 2 front tires. The problem happened again within 5 miles and the shop said I need to take it to Toyota dealer to have it the steering angle sensors recalibrated. The Toyota dealership said that this is something that the vehicle does itself. They inspected it and took it for a test drive and said nothing is wrong. The problem happened again within a few miles of leaving the dealership. I have read countless forums of people experiencing the same thing in their Toyota Sienna and having the dealership telling them there is not a problem. I have also found that the solution could very well be worn rack and pinion bushings that are creating the play that are triggering the sensors. I don't think they gave it a proper inspection. This is a very dangerous problem, and even more so when the dealership is saying there isn't a problem. I am feeling very lost on what to do with my van right now. I have spent $1100 and 3 days of my time with the same thing happening. I.

23 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/26/2021

Van has just over 5k miles. Multiple warnings occurred while at speed on a highway. Primary warning was 'low brake power' and braking became extremely touchy as it seemed to utilize the emergency brake as a backup. This extreme braking is hazardous and could result in an accident caused by braking too quickly - with a possible rear-end collision by traffic to the rear. Additional warnings/malfunctions were listed as well, due to the low brake power: lta malfunction (lane keep assist), automatic emergency brake malfunction, parking brake malfunction, check engine. There were no symptoms of poor braking prior to the incident. Dealer filed a tas report with Toyota to address the problem, and was subsequently inspected by the Toyota field representative. Initially could not duplicate/identify the issue and the van was returned. Within one week the incident reoccurred, again on the highway. Van is currently with the dealer and the brake booster and brake master cylinder will be replaced. Expect the dealer will retain the parts.

24 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

Abs brake pump module. Went out causing accident. No warning. Abs lights came on. Took to shop. Draining battery, causing brakes to fail. Shouod be recalled due to no warning, complete brake failure, causing vehicle to be dangerous, not road worthy.

25 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/19/2020

Every time I go around a curve, the abs trc and vehicle beeps like I'm sliding. It happens on every curve. Its very dangerous. I have unplugged the sensor under the front passenger seat and all problems go away. I have replaced this part and it still has not fixed the problem. With part unplugged I have no abs trc airbags none of the safety equipment is working while unplugged, but is safer than having my brakes slammed in every curve.
