Nine problems related to body have been reported for the 1996 Toyota T100. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I am a owner of a 1996 Toyota T100 with serious rust issues on my truck. I have been looking online and found that other owners have the same problems. There was a recall on other truck such as the tacoma. Why hasn't a recall been issued for the T100.
I was returning from a short trip and the driver's side control arm broke while traveling down the road at approx. 35 mph. The frame, body and steering components are all riddled with rust. I have replaced numerous parts that had failed due to rust, including a fuel pump whose design trapped moisture and road salt on top of the fuel tank until fuel was leaking on the roadway. The rear bumper rusted off. Toyota trucks of similar type and year have been recalled because of similar problems, but not the 1996 T100. Toyota forums are filled with the same issue with this vehicle. I have owned this vehicle since it was brand new. Toyota will not back this product.
The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. The contact stated while traveling 15 mph the vehicle hit a bump in the road and then a rubbing and clicking noise could be heard coming from the driver front wheel well. The vehicle then became difficult to steer. The contact merged to the side of the road. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that part of the frame was missing. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 151,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact 1996 Toyota t-100. The contact stated that after spraying his vehicle he noticed that the frame was severely covered with rust and a hole was in it. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was approximately 92,856. Updated 01/12/lj.
I had my vehicle in for an exhaust rattle as well as an oil change today to my local independent mechanic. The mechanic, noting how rotted out the frame was in the rear as well as front, recommended that I not drive the vehicle any longer. The shop didn't do any service work due to the condition of the vehicle. Knowing that Toyota did a recall on a similar truck model of the same vintage, I took the truck to the nearby Toyota dealer where I asked their service department to do an assessment of the vehicle. I thought Toyota could then better understand what is happening with one of their products. The service manager was rather rude and said the warranty on the truck had expired after three years and that if I wanted an inspection, I would have to pay for it. I am shocked that what I had thought was a perfectly good usable vehicle has now become a safety hazard to myself and others on the road. I'm familiar with rusty vehicles having lived in wisconsin now for 47 years, but I have never seen this kind of thing before. I feel Toyota should either replace the frame or buy out the vehicle from me. Toyota advertises as to the percentage of their vehicles are still on the road with some kind of pride; perhaps they should acknowledge at the same time how many people are putting their lives at risk by driving those vehicles. As to the rotted frame, both main rails are rotted in the back. The front left tire suspension has rusted through. The rear transaxle has rusted near the rear right tire and is leaking fluid. Brake lines have rusted through and are leaking. Spark plug? that attaches to the exhaust pipe (reburn system?); both nuts holding this on have disintegrated and no longer holding this device tight (this is the cause of the newly discovered exhaust rattle).
The contact owns 1996 Toyota T100. The contact stated that the vehicle frame was severely corroded. As a result, hole developed in the fuel tank causing it to separate from the vehicle. The fuel tank was replaced; however the dealer advised that the vehicle cannot be repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,288 and the current mileage was 136,426.
My 1996 Toyota T100 fire wall under clutch assembly failed and cracked from fatigue. Distance of clutch travel was inadequate to disengage. Replaced clutch for no reason.
There is a housing crack on vehicle. Contacted dealer, and dealer is not willing to do anything about it.
Transmission wore out at 28000 miles repair to firewall was made at 57000 miles when clutch failed to disengage bracket for pedal completely failed at 110000 seat belt was replaced once and it continues to get caught in door because of weak retractor.
