2 Cruise Control problem of the 1996 Toyota T100

Failure Date: 03/25/2002

After the cruise control is set vehicle will accelerate up to higher speeds. Gulf state dealers were installing aftermarket cruise controls in vehicles. Dealer was notified. Please add more information.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 1996 Toyota T100

Failure Date: 06/01/2000

The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. The contact stated that the cruise control system failed to hold the intended speed and accelerated above it. Unintended acceleration could increase the potential for a vehicle crash. He notified the manufacturer in reference to recall# 96e001000, vehicle speed control. He was advised that since his VIN was excluded, he was ineligible for a free remedy. No repairs have been made. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 155,000. Updated 10/09/09 the consumer also stated when he accelerated to pass another vehicle with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle accelerated at full throttle and did not stop until the engine was shut off. 4 Cruise Control problem of the 1996 Toyota T100

Failure Date: 02/05/1997

The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. The contact stated the cruise control was set to 70 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 78 mph. The contact was able to shut off the cruise control. When the cruise control was set, the speed would sporadically fluctuate between speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times with concerns of the failure. The dealer made repairs that were unknown to the contact. The failure continued to recur. The contact was able to locate a recall similar to the failure (NHTSA campaign id number: 96e001000, vehicle speed control) yet when contacting the dealer, he was informed his VIN was not included with the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 1996 Toyota T100

Failure Date: 01/07/1997

The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. The contact was driving down an incline approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions and the cruise control system engaged. Suddenly, there was an unintended vehicle acceleration above the set speed. The brake pedal required greater force. In addition, the vehicles stopping distance was increased when the brakes were applied. There were no prior warnings. The failures occurred intermittently. The authorized dealer was notified of the failure. Nhtsa campaign id number 96e001000, vehicle speed control is related to the failure; however, the VIN was excluded from the recall. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The contact is aware of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.
