Tire Sidewall problems of the 1999 Toyota Tacoma

Three problems related to tire sidewall have been reported for the 1999 Toyota Tacoma. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

One tire had a sidewall failure and the other three all split. We replaced all four at our own expense since the dealer said firestone was avoiding settlement on tire problems. This all happened before the news about explorers. I kept three of the old tires as proof. ( dot number: tire size: 10. 5x31 ).

2 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 08/18/1999

My firestone wilderness tire exploded just as the others have been described. Yet my tire size and manufacturer location is not one that is being recalled. I have been waiting for the recall to be expanded and it hasn't . A local firestone store on erie blvd. In syracuse, NY informed me that the recall is ongoing and will probably expand. I had to change a sidewall exploded flat on the highway in 90 degree heat and then a year later I find that the same things were happening to others only with more drastic results. My experience leads me to believe that the location and size have nothing to do with it. I think it is the design and all wilderness at's should be recalled. 3 Tire Sidewall problem

There has been no failure, but the tires are exhibiting coloration changes between the sidewall and tread that look dangerous in light of the separation reports for their larger size tires. ( dot number: ).
