4 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2017

My Toyota Tacoma was on a lift, and extensive rusting of the frame was noticed, including two holes (one passenger side, one driver side) anterior to the rear wheels. I stopped by the Toyota dealership and they gave me the number of Toyota customer care. Toyota customer care told me their was a recall that ended in 2011. When I told them I never received a recall notice and that I was the original owner living at the same address for almost 30 years, I was told the sometimes they notify the department of motor vehicles! to me at least, this is "passing the buck," shirking their responsibility. I was given a case number, and I emailed the ceo of Toyota north America. I have not as yet heard a response, as it is the christmas and new year holidays. I plan to pursue this with my attorney. There should be not "statute of limitations" on safety.

9 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

Frame rust recall. I was never notified of the recall for this vehicle. I talked with the customer service at the corporate office in California and it was confirmed that I never received any notice to my address. The upper level management denied my right to have the truck fixed. I have spent 1400. 00 dollars to fix and keep the truck on the road safely. The recall ended early without notice. I have receipts from my dealership of the repair. It was brought to my attention when routine maintenance was being performed. That started my inquiry with Toyota.

11 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

On 12/05 I noticed something hanging from underneath my 2000 Toyota Tacoma pick up truck. When I got down to pull it out, I realized it was rust from my frame, that has completely rusted through. I called Toyota consumer services, spoke to a gentleman who was very rude, telling me that I had missed the warranty extension time limit and because I didn't register my new address with them, they wouldn't do anything. First, the truck was paid for when I moved. Second, it is up to them to notify me and this can be done via the registry of motor vehicles, as has been done in the past with another of our paid for vehicles. Third, I never received a notice that stated my warranty was extended do to rusted frames for 1995-2004 Tacoma's. Toyota recalled over 700,000 trucks, so clearly they are aware of the issue. There are hundreds of complaints on line and videos on youtube about this. This truck in in great shape and I planned on using it for at least another 100k miles. It has been maintained well and rides great. This is the 11th and last Toyota, I have owned. I am appalled and amazed that Toyota will not take care of this safety issue because of the age of a vehicle.

12 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

I when for oil change on my truck, upon lifting the car I was told by the mechanic that the frame is very rusted and has wholes on it and it will be a safety hazard to drive it like that and that there is a potential that the frame could break while driving.

13 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

I took my vehicle in for a recall concerning the frame rusting through and breaking in 2011. The dealership decided to spray the frame with undercoating rather than fix the problem or reimburse me for my vehicle. Know the frame has completely broken on the drivers side and is no longer safe to drive. After looking at the damage it is clear that the dealer simply sprayed over the rusting frame to cover up the damage rather than fix it. I drove this vehicle for several years not knowing the danger that I was putting myself and family in. Know my vehicle is unsafe to drive and Toyota is offering to give me a meager $1,000 towards a new vehicle. This is nonsense considering they knew the issues with this vehicle and did not fix it properly when they should have. I don't have several thousand dollars to put into a new vehicle when this vehicle should have lasted several more years. I have pictures that show I take great care of my vehicles (outside/inside look new) and the only issue is due to the manufacturers negligence. I feel that Toyota should take responsibility for their fault and fix my vehicle. I'm not looking for a handout but want them to do the right thing. Toyota should fix this issue as it is no fault of my own.

14 Frame Rust problem

Tl the contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that he took the vehicle in for a recall repair for verifying if the frame was rusted. The repair was done between 2010 and 2013. The unknown dealer sprayed the frame with an undercoat after insuring that it was not rusted. The undercoat was supposed to protect frame from any future rusting. The frame was not rusted prior to the coating being applied. 18 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

My 2000 Toyota Tacoma has "extensive" rust damage to its frame and suspension system. This truck was purchased in kansas and has since moved with me down to georgia. I noticed on the web that the rust on the frame of the truck is a common concern/defect from Toyota. I am inquiring to see if there is a recall on this and how I should go about trying to get this fixed. The engine and all of the vital components work fine, it seems a shame to get rid of a vehicle that is still in good working condition, other than the rust problem that is.

19 Frame Rust problem

21 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

2000 Toyota Tacoma frame rust - I have owned this truck for ten years always getting my service done at darcars here in frederick, MD. I decided to take my truck to a new mechanic and to what I have found my frame is rusted. Not only rusted but falling apart, I was told that my truck was a safety hazard to drive and that I should not be driving it because it could fall apart at just hitting a pot hole. The corrosion was that terrible. I immediately contacted darcars in frederick, MD and was told to bring it in tomorrow. Did they not hear my say that it was a potential life threatening death trap to drive. Unhappy with my response I went to darcars immediately after picking my truck up from my new mechanic. I left my truck at darcars and had to go rent a car on my own until they look at my truck tomorrow hopefully sometime before noon. Here now I have had to pay 267. 00 out of my account to get a rental car. Until tomorrow I have no answers. Why do I feel like I have been punished for something that they are in the wrong for. I love my truck. Had it for years and darcars could not see after servicing my vehicle for 10 years that my frame was nearly nothing but rusted metal with holes in it. They sure did find other things wrong with my truck that needed to be fixed. A true mechanic, a person you trust to make your car safe to drive let me drive a vehicle around that could have potentially killed me and the life of my daughter of 11. How sad are these people? I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received from Toyota and the communication concerning my vehicle. The are not concerned for anyone's safety. So I am left with no vehicle, one that I just paid off and now I have nothing. Maybe that is ok for some but for me it is totally unacceptable.

22 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2008

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact noticed excessive rust on the frame and called the dealer. The technician stated that they would not repurchase the vehicle because it was classified as a level three rusting hazard. They would not repurchase the vehicle until it reached a level four, which meant that the frame was rusted to the point that the vehicle was non-repairable. Symptoms of level four are holes or fractures within the frame. The manufacturer would not assist. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 140,000.

23 Frame Rust problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2008

I'm the owner of a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. Toyota has made a recall on rusted frames on years 95-2000. My truck has a repaired title which they say voids the warranty. The truck had no frame damage what so ever and was not rolled over, only cosmetic damage. I have pictures and documents showing what was repaired. I have a wife and two children that I don't want in the vehicle when it decides to break in half. There should be some exception if evidence is provided that the damage was light or had nothing to do with frame.
