Rusty and cracked frame.
Toyota frame recall - I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with holes and cracks visible in the frame. I can only imagine the damage internally to the frame. Huge chunks of frame rust come from the inside of the frame when pressure washed. The truck was originally purchased and resided in the northeast for the majority of the vehicle's life. The truck was obviously exposed to road salts and as a result the frame has been compromised. The Toyota dealer must be aware of the history of the vehicle as the truck was serviced regularly at Toyota dealerships and third party service centers throughout the northeast. In 2014 Toyota tried to covered up the problem with a "rust inhibitor" which only hide the true damage on the frame. I recently took my truck to autonation Toyota at 2555 colonial blvd, fort myers, FL 33907 phone:(239) 321-5413 for a different recall, the rear springs. I requested the frame be replaced under the recent Toyota frame recall settlement and was simply ignored. I am currently driving my truck as a necessity knowing there may be a catastrophic failure at any time. Toyota has agreed in court to either replace or buy out the vehicles affected. My truck is a danger to myself and others on the road but I can't afford another vehicle. I have taken pictures of the affected areas of the frame as evidence of the damage. Please help!.
My truck frame has an inordinate amount of rust and a perforating rust on the drivers side front of the frame approximately 7x6 inches of frame that has just cracked away with rust, I am sure my truck will not pass state inspection this year. Under Toyota's limited service campaign my truck should qualify for repairs but Toyota corporate does not recognize my truck as needing repair based on the VIN number.
I took my vehicle for maintenance and was told that the frame on my 2005 Tacoma x-runner is rusted and showing signs of cracking. I called Toyota corporate to complain about the issue and was told there was nothing they can do about it since there is no recall or TSB. The rust is so bad that I can no longer drive my vehicle. There was a recall notice for the cold weather states to recoat or replace rusted frames so Toyota knows of the problem especially since they had the same issue with 95-04 Tacomas.
When my vehicle had 4000 miles on it I got into a car accident that caused damage to the original frame. The frame was replaced by a Toyota factory frame purchased by the auto body that was doing the work from a Toyota dealer. I noticed recently that there was a excessive amount of corrosion, warping and a crack in the rear section of the frame that is on the vehicle. I started to research the issue online and found a recall for certain 2005 and up Tacoma's so I called the Toyota America 800 number to see what the process is to get it taken care of I was informed that my vehicle VIN was not part of a recall and the only thing I could do is take it to a dealer for inspection, so I did they noted the issue and talked to the local service manager which in turn said the VIN is not part of the recall and there is nothing that associates the frame that the vehicle currently has with my VIN. They also told me the vehicle was not safe to drive and the only thing they could do for me is take it as a trade in.
I have 2005 Tacoma 4x4 with a frame that cracked and collapsed into its self were the left motor mount is welded to the frame. The motor came to rest on the steering shaft knuckle @ the rack and pinion making it difficult to steer. I called Toyota service center they told me it was the first time they had heard about this problem. Upon researching the problem on the web there are well over 200 complaints same problem. It is such a problem that a fabrication company dmz makes a gusset repair kit to repair and reinforce the frame. It's a bout a 10 hour repair. . Read more...
Safety inspection revealed extreame corrosion of the frame and weakening around the motor mount area of the frame, where the mounts are welded to the frame rails. Potential for loss of steering control if motor mount collapses through the frame rail and motor rests on steering shaft. I have done research about this problem and have discovered that there was an issue with the frames for model years 2005 and 2006 Tacoma's and in 2007 the frame was reinforced where the motor mounts are welded to the frame with extra steel plate on all frames made since 2007. There are after market repair kits that can be purchased for repairing this defect that can be welded around the existing motor mount to repair cracked frames or ones that have already caved in. The after market has seen the need to supply a kit for such a defect and Toyota has seen the need to install reinforcements to the frames of all the newer models. How long are they going to wait before they admit there is an issue? I'm sure there are internal memo's on this that they are not sharing with the government. Please look into this before some one is injured from this. Thank you for you help.
Took vehicle in for inspection, notified that the frame has excessive corrosion (rust) on the entire frame with signs of metal separation. A crack was also noted on the passenger side where the front and back parts of the c-frame are welded together. When the surface rust was ground away, the crack was 5" long and the bottom of the c-frame had two large perforations. With this condition, the vehicle will not pass the inspection. The dealer contacted regional rep and owner contacted Toyota customer service - both advised no assistance and the frames were of a different production lot then the prior recall (2nd gen vs 1st gen). Also cited age and mileage being a factor. Other than the frame, the vehicle is in very good condition. 2005 Tacoma with 131000 miles should still be a passable vehicle.
The drivers side sun visor made a cracking sound when I rotated it down to block the sun. Attempts to push it forward to the windshield failed and it dropped down vertical blocking my vision of the road. I was unable to move the sun visor back to its stored location so I had to pull off the road and remove the sun visor with a screwdriver. The exact same thing happened to our 2010 Toyota camry. And we had to remove the visor on the road. There is an extended warranty on the 2010 so it was repaired. Removing the fabric on the Tacoma sun visor I found a metal plate on the rotating arm that was frozen and it had split the plastic housing. I found the same design with the camry sun visor. And it was also frozen and would not freely rotate. Toyota refuses to acknowledge that they have a design flaw with the sun visors. The service manager would not look at the exposed inner workings of the sun visor. When I told him that the Toyota hotline said to bring both vehicles in and the dealership may repair both. The service manager said he had worked with them for years and they do not say that but give you a reference number. This is the second run in with the same dealership. When I brought in the camry they wanted me to provide proof of the agreed on extended warranty for this repair. I found on the Toyota forums that there is many issues with Toyota's drivers side sun visor. The passenger side is of the same design but is not flexed as much as the drivers side and does not fail as often.
Took the truck in for oil change they found a long crack in the frame told me the truck was unsafe to drive at that time said that they could not do anything because there were no recalls at that time I traded it in on a new one ten thousand was owed on the truck but they only gave me 6000 truck was worth about 14000. 00 now there is a recall and Toyota says that per your guidelines they do not have to compensate me for my loses and this truck broke two years ago if I still had the truck I would be glad to have them fix it but they said that at that time there was nothing they could do for me we the consumers need your help to fix this problem Toyota should not be able to get away with this they had a recall on Tacomas in the early 2000,s and were giving book value plus have so that is 150 percent of the value of the truck thank in advance for your time in this matter look forward to hearing from you.
