39 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

My truck frame is rusting abnormally. Toyota’s official inspection found no holes >10mm. - no further action. The frame is bad. The corrosion I would guess is secondary to bad steel-not enough nickel? is there a standard for steel in this application? I need your help. I can’t get Toyota to do the right thing on my own. Much sooner than it should this vehicle will be unsafe to drive. I mean a well maintained car (which this is) shouldn’t be having this kind of problem. I mean the frame is rotting away. Something very wrong from the beginning. Dana mfg. ? this has nothing to do with warranty and limits of liability. This truck came off the line defective. It just took a while to show. Appreciate your attention and any assistance you may provide.

40 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that there had been a strong vibration coming from the vehicle, the service engine light illuminated and that the u-joints had not been properly lubricated from the manufacturing process. The dealer legacy Toyota (3800 w tennessee st, tallahassee, FL 32304, (850) 688-9264) was notified, had not provided a replacement of the drive train and the u-joints, diagnosed that the tires had been the cause of the failure. The contact constantly had to lube the u-joints to prevent dryness which would have caused the drive train to fracture. The contact, a mechanic, replaced the u-joints, took the drive shaft in to have the dealer inspect the part and there was no remedy provided. The manufacturer issued a service campaign, indicated that the vehicle was excluded so the dealer refused to replace the u-joints and the drive shaft. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was not available. It's been over a year since I received a recall notice regarding the rear leaf spring. What is taking Toyota so long in repairing this problem? I'll be dead before it's fixed. Or is that what they're counting on.

53 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

The vehicle has significant frame rust. There are several areas on the frame where large sections of metal have delaminated. This presents a structural integrity issue in key supporting areas of the frame assembly for major components to include drive train, braking and suspension. The overall crash worthiness is in question due to the structural integrity issue presented by the frame design, metal composition and premature rusting and metal fatigue. Toyota has started a limited service campaign to apply a corrosion resistance protection, but this issue should be a safety recall. Based on the magnitude of damage from rusting in my case the only resolution would be a full frame replacement. I have pictures of the frame damage and rust available. I will also be sending Toyota a letter requesting an inspection by the regional factor representative prior to any repairs.

57 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2014

Nov 17, 2014, I brought my Tacoma in for recall frame inspection. It failed. I was told they would order replacement frame. I was told it would be in mid January '15. I called the dealer today. They said no frame arrived and no eta when it would arrive. They guessed mid March, another two months away, but no assurance it was true. I don't drive my truck due to the weak frame. I still pay insurance on it. Why can Toyota offer free frame replacement and not deliver a new frame in a timely manner?.

58 Suspension problem

Frame rust recall.

59 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma access cab. I got a "limited service campaign notice" that my truck might have abnormal rust on the frame. I put it on a lift and behold there was a huge hole in my frame making it not drivable. Apparently Toyota is not being up front with its customers and has known about this defect in the 2005-2011 model years. My dealer said a new frame will cost around $14,000 to replace. They said Toyota would pay for the frame but will not buy back the truck. I still do not understand how they are willing to spend $14,000 on a frame on a truck that is worth $15,000 I have heard from dealers that the frames are on national back order and are at least 3 months out. Please investigate the 2005-2011 Tacoma claims. I think a full recall is due. My truck could of killed someone. I am sure there is a lot of ticking time bombs out there.

60 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the leaf spring fractured with no warning and that there was a punctured hole which damaged the fuel tank. The contact tried for several months before the failure, to schedule a repair and the dealer indicated that they did not have a remedy to fix the vehicle for several months and then the failure occured with no warning. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign id numbers: 14v604000 (suspension), 12v092000 (air bags), 09v388000 (vehicle speed control) and was unable to determine for months when the parts would become available to schedule the recall repairs. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop who replaced the leaf springs because the dealer did not have a permanent fix for the failure. The fuel tank was also replaced by the repair shop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

Toyota issued a limited service campaign number csc-10056075-4484 for 2005 thru 2008 Toyota Tacoma truck with frame rust problems, mine was inspected at the local Toyota dealer and was told that it would not pass the wv state inspection yearly procedure. But was told by Toyota USA that my VIN is not one included in the campaign even though it fits the year and model. So I am stuck with a truck that is unsafe to operate. I have only one vehicle and retired and need the truck.

64 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

In the summer of 2013 my rear tire feel out from beneath my truck while I was driving. The cross bars that held the tire had rusted through. I filed an NHTSA complaint. Early this spring I brought my Tacoma to my Toyota dealer to complain about a larger perforation that appeared in my frame. There dealer photographed it, sent it to Toyota, and informed me they would call me if Toyota was going to take any action. The service manager told me he was hearing rumors of a frame recall and that I should check in periodically. Early in October of this year I read on he internet about the Tacoma "leaf spring" recall and brought my truck back to Toyota. My truck was again inspected, photographed, and a few days later I was told to bring my truck in. I was told that Toyota was mailing out notices to qualified Toyota owners and that I should be getting my recall notification letter soon. I have never yet received that letter. However, I brought my truck back to the dealer on October 10 and they promptly impounded it, saying it was unsafe to drive. The service manager told me that although the frame replacement would take just a few days, the frames had not yet arrived and I should expect a two to three month delay. I filed a complaint with Toyota and a few days later the customer service representative who called me offered no further solution (I suggested that Toyota buy back my truck and offered me a credit towards the purchase of a new Toyota), but did add that she thought the frames would take longer still to come in and that I should expect to be without my truck for four months. I am currently driving a loaner paid for by Toyota, but one that does not well meet thne needs met by my personal truck.

65 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

I took my vehicle for maintenance and was told that the frame on my 2005 Tacoma x-runner is rusted and showing signs of cracking. I called Toyota corporate to complain about the issue and was told there was nothing they can do about it since there is no recall or TSB. The rust is so bad that I can no longer drive my vehicle. There was a recall notice for the cold weather states to recoat or replace rusted frames so Toyota knows of the problem especially since they had the same issue with 95-04 Tacomas.

68 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I received several recall notices from Toyota and took my vehicle to the dealer multiple times, but the repair dept kept informing me that a fix hasn't been finalized yet. Contradicting to to recall notice, they told me this issue was not a "big deal. " according to the recall, there is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. And, if this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. If the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. Toyota claimed they would replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones, bit this has yet to happen.

69 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I first received recall notice NHTSA October 2014. I called the local Toyota dealer and they informed when the parts are available they will replace the defective part (leaf springs). I called a month later and received the same story. Additionally, the dealer informed me that they will call me when the parts are available for install. I waited an additional two months before calling again and was given the same story. At the one year mark upon receiving this first notice I called the dealer and asked the status of this recall. I was given the same story, as the parts become available they will call me and let me know they are ready to install them on the vehicle. I have since called them monthly and received the same story over and over again. It appears Toyota does not want to pay for this problem they created.

70 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

On my old 1998 Toyota Tacoma I got the deal on buyback when the frame rusted out so bad with holes in it. Then I went out and bought a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and this truck has rust from end to end on the frame again. When I bought it in 2006 Toyota said they had that fixed but this 2005 is alot worse with alot more rust then the 1998. I also took it to the garage to have the power steering pump and alternator and ac pump replaced because everything was rusted up on the alternator and ac pump and power steering so bad the mechanic told me to keep the parts and show the Toyota dealership and NHTSA. I was lucky that everything shut down on the truck when I got it to the bottom of my driveway and then got it towed to the mechanic and 1790. 00 dollars later with labor and parts let me tell you not happy with Toyota. Please NHTSA look at this problem and if you need a truck to take pics of mine is the one I used to work at a body shop so I know this truck would do the job for NHTSA my truck has 78000 miles on it I will take pics of it for you if you wish.
