Dealer did not apply the corrosion resistant compound to the frame during the warranty enhancement period as I requested. They did not notify me when they were capable of doing so until after the warranty was expired. As a result during the warranty period, the frame developed major rust perforation resulting in frame cracking. At that point the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The dealer also would not replace the frame as per the warranty enhancement program. I made no progress with east madison Toyota or Toyota corporate over this issue. I have filed a complaint with Toyota corporate, the better business bureau and also contacted datcp. I am basically getting nowhere with this issue and am left with a vehicle sitting in the backyard useless. If they know the frame is faulty why don't they fix it ? I could have been killed or killed someone else driving down the road with this dangerous problem.
The vehicle frame is so rusty everywhere including visible cracks that I do not know if it is safe to drive anymore. I am sure it will not be safe to tow anything for sure or the thing will break in half.
I own a 2006 Tacoma, with 67,800 miles on it. I purchased it from a dealership in 2013; it had 34,000 miles on it then. I received correspondence from Toyota in 2014 that I needed to have the frame inspected for excessive rust. The same dealership did the inspection and found it eligible only for the undercoat spray. Last week, the dealership replaced the spring leaf (pursuant to a separate recall) and advised me that the frame has excessive rust, cracks and perforation. It's clear that the undercoat "solution" was no solution at all and that it did not resolve the underlying problem. The dealership was unsympathetic and defensive about their workmanship spraying the undercoat. I see that there is a state class action somewhere down south -- arkansas? alabama? -- but that doesn't help me (I'm in the northeast) and I depend exclusively on this truck. Can NHTSA help?.
The clutch master cylinder cracked.
Frame rust deemed so bad by Toyota tech that he refused to put the truck on a rack for inspection and service.
I have owned my truck for about 2 1/2 years. The frame of the vehicle has significant rust and rot. There are several holes through the frame due to rot and corrosion which are not normal for a vehicle less than 10 years old. On the drivers side next to the catalytic converter there is a hole. On the drivers side in the rear of the body mount there is a hole as well as on the bottom of the frame where the c channel butts together right below the body mount. The passenger side also has a hole by one of the exhaust hangers about 2"x3". There is significant rust and flaking along the entire frame. The tow hitch has signifiacnt rust and holes as well. About 6 weeks ago in mid June after filing a complaint with Toyota and having the service manager at the local dealership, in riverhead NY, look at my frame and submit some pictures to Toyota corporate only to be told too bad we aren't replacing frames in NY. I had a gas tank support strap fail while driving home from work, luckily I didn't lose the gas tank and end up in a ball of flames. I also reported this to the dealership and was told I was liable to replace the gas tank straps. There is a limited service campaign to address the issues with these frames but when I log on to the Toyota owners website I can not find any mention of such campaign. However there is thread on a Tacoma enthusiast site, Tacomaworld. Com where people are posting and tracking their respective progress with Toyota and the issues with their frames. The manager of the service department at my local dealership stated that they are aware of the frame problems however right now Toyota is not replacing frames. I spoke to someone at Toyota corporate about my particular frame and she stated that they are aware of the issues and my frame meets the criteria to be replaced, however they are going to replace it. So basically Toyota told me I'm sol.
My 2006 Toyota Tacoma has 42,200 miles on it and the frame rotting by the day, due to rust. My truck cannot be driven. The bed creaks and shakes and is very unstable. The brackets holding the leaf springs are nearly disintegrated, deeming my vehicle stranded. Toyota will not do anything about it. When I purchased my vehicle from Toyota in 2007, I paid for undercoating to protect from rust. Upon research, many 2006 Tacoma owners that are dealing the same rusting scenario. Recently Toyota issued a recall on Tacoma frames from trucks 1995 - 2004, clearly something is wrong but didn't get resolved with newer models. I have photos of the brackets & frame, which are atrocious. Local mechanics and body shops alike have said they haven't seen anything like this on such a new(ish) truck. Lem, the Toyota representative told me the rust is due to a chemical compound effecting the frame and it's out of their hands. "warranty reviewed photos and determined that it'¿¿s surface rust and not perforation corrosion. Rust on surface is eating it'¿¿s way throughout all metal parts of the vehicle. " does chemical compound mean rain water? rain water drips from the back of the bed, through the body onto the brackets. This is the epicenter of the rust problem. Earlier in 2012 I had an issue with this same rust, which ate away my bumper. Toyota said this wasn't unusual and they wouldn't help me. Warranty would not cover it. I complained locally, and wrote a letter to corporate - no response. On 10/9/12 I paid $600. 18 for a new bumper - Toyota installed. They didn't not address the frame rust at that time. Now, 16 months I have a truck that is stuck in my driveway - with rust stains all over the concrete. If I drive somewhere, rather than tow the truck to get fixed, an accident seems imminent. I would like my frame to be replaced or bought back by Toyota immediately. Thank you.
Sun visor made cracking type sounds when folding down or up to use. Now it will not stay up or fold up against windshield. It is a vision hazard.
Heavy rust on vehicle frame. The front tow bar is rusted through. You can see the threads of one of the bolts that mounts the skid bars through the frame. Heavy rusting of frame mostly in the front under the engine. The frame is rusting from the inside out. This is evident when you wipe the inside rails of the frame and rust deposits are found. The tow bar is hollow and multiple 2-3in long by 1/8-1/4in pieces have been pulled out. Other parts of the frame have similar pieces found although none have been found that are quite that large. The rust is causing the frame to bubble up and is often twice the width of the frame. Some parts are fine. There is a spot on the front frame that looks brand new when wiped down. It is black and shiny while right next to it is some of the worst rust. The only holes I have found so far are in the front. I have a quality vehicle inspection from big island Toyota when my the vehicle had 70801 miles noting the rust on frame. This was in April 2012. The vehicle was purchased in hawaii and has been in hawaii ever since. That inspection was when the vehicle was six years old. Other components of the vehicle are showing extensive rust as well such as brackets, nuts, bolts, wheel hubs and rims.
