Truck had excelerator to full on 3 occasions and on each episode I barely avoided death, these are extreme episodes , the vehicle went full blast from idle , it had happened 3 times.
Body rot due to corrosion of manufacture defect. Toyota sprayed the body under cost but again coming off and body rot through out vehicle.
I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to boch Toyota as part of Toyota service campaign regarding frame recall back in Dec of 2015. I waited 5 months to get my truck back to get it back in deplorable conditions. Truck was not repaired satisfactorilyand I am still having issues with it. I have made several complaints to Toyota and both Toyota to no avail. Truck barely running.
I was slowly entering a parking space. I pressed the brake pedal and the engine speed increased to maximum rpm. I jammed the emergency brake and threw the transmission into "park. " a great cloud of blue smoke issued forth from the spinning tires. This never happened before and it's definitely a problem with the truck and not my foot! several years ago, as a pedestrian, I saw the exact same thing happen to a Jeep cherokee at a stop sign.
As I was rolling down hill and applying the brakes, the truck suddenly accelerated. As I pressed the brakes harder the anti-lock brakes activated and the truck continued to move forward for a short distance, almost into on coming traffic, while the engine could be heard loud as if the gas peddle was being pushed although the brakes were being applied only. Scary! uncontrollable forward movement and acceleration while braking.
I recently had an issue with the engine fan hitting the shroud on my 2006 Tacoma. I took my Tacoma into the local Toyota dealership for diagnostics. They informed me that the frame was cracked around the weld where the drivers' side motor mount bracket was welded to the frame. The bracket has started sinking into the frame which could ultimately cause serious problems to consumers leading to vehicle accidents etc. I have been doing research and have heard of this same issue happening with 2005 & 2006 Tacomas from numerous other Tacoma owners. The welds around the motor mount brackets are weak. These should be one of the strongest welds on the truck. Toyota advertises their trucks for off road use yet they barely hold up to normal highway driving. I hope Toyota resolves this matter accordingly.
2006 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling eastbound on the ohio turnpike when the engine caught on fire. (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0741-91) updated 02/15/11.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated the driver side air bag warning light remained illuminated. In addition when sitting idle with the brakes depressed, the vehicle would sporadically lunge forward. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 66,780.
2006 Toyota Tacoma regularly surges forward when at full stop with brakes applied. This happens unpredictably and whether a/c is on or not. It is not idle speed increase associated with compressor turn on, and causes the vehicle to move forward- no other vehicle that I have had has done this. This is very likely a software issue with the ecu and needs to be addressed in this manner. Your previous investigation may not have been designed to find a software defect, which by nature, can be intermittent and difficult to find. Research into the code is required. (I am an engineer involved in aviation software- these abnormalities must be properly researched. ).
Engine races when shifting from 4th to 5th gear. Engine rpm may go as high as 3,000 rpms. 2006 Toyota Tacoma access cab 4 cylinder 4-wheel drive. Manufacturer say this is an emission procedure. It's o. K. To shift the transmission and let the clutch out while the engine is fee winding. Even the Toyota mechanics at my local dealer says this is wrong it will ruin the clutch eventually. I paid cash for this vehicle. . . . . . . And Toyota just as soon get rid of me rather than fix the problem. I will do everything in my power to give Toyota all the free publicity I can on every forum there is on the net. I have proof from the dealer that this is not normal and Toyota says to it;s customer. . . . . Bugger off. We got your money. And your right I do have stupid written on my forehead.
- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma , cab. Cruise control malfunctioned. While driving at 60 mph the vehicle surged at 5100 rpms, and down shifted before adding fuel. The failure almost caused the vehicle to crash into a barrier. A product engineer inspected the vehicle, and stated that it performed as designed and according to the contact the design was incorrect. This failure occurred since August 2006. The contact stated that the door should lock after engaging the gears. The dealer stated it was designed that way, and they're unable to reprogram it to make it auto lock. The owner mailed a detailed failure report to the president of Toyota. The failure mileage was 8000, and the current mileage was 15100.
