1 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

This should be a mandatory recall. This is dangerous and should be looked at that way people have had their frames broken in half. The worst damage on mine is driver's side up front there is also rust near the rear my truck recently had rear springs replaced on a recall. They should have noticed it they said nothing about it, the front tires have been replaced several times at the same dealership should have been easy to notice the damage at front didn't mention it. Thank you tony baggett.

2 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2020

The subject vehicles' rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. Safety risk: if the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. Remedy: Toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones. It has been repaired I need to have it shipped off island ASAP.

3 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2017

Never received recall on the airbags? safety harness in the back seats where my rand kids ride will not tighten up. Leaf-springs bow up in the middle not down? have replaced u-joints more times then on my 97 Ford. Plus carrier bearings because of the leaf springs and stopped driving it because it goes back and forth on the road. My rear end howls and needs replaced because the rear end is higher then the tranny but there has been 7 recalls on this model and only found out about them on line. You must be doing a better job or your fired!!! lol but if you care I thank you but at least make them fix these safety issues, or at least make us aware of them instead of hiding them. Don't let them get away with ripping americans off . To do so is no better then them.

4 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Took my truck to dealership for leaf spring recall. They checked VIN ,and gave me a courtesy car while they do the wor. They called me later in day and said they wont do it due to my truck being modified (lifted). Now yes my truck is lifted, however there is no modification to the springs. There is blocks in the rear that simply let the springs mount on the top of the block instead of the top of the axle and does not affect or change any dynamics or function to the springs. I dont feel this is right, with this being a life saftey issue. My truck is part of the recall and my springs are week and a saftey hazzard.

5 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Broken rear leaf spring assembly: this problem has been known in Toyotas since the first generation Tacomas but worse in the second generation. The leaf springs aren't properly equipped to handle the towing capacity outlined in the owner's manual and will crack, flatten, or break under too much weight. I was told by the dealer that it needed replaced on 11/7/2016. Toyota addressed this issue in 2007 by releasing a TSB stating that they'd replace the springs on any second-gen Tacoma still under warranty. I bought mine in 2006 and was never told or sent notice of this. I have lived in the same location for over 25 years.

6 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2016

Rear leaf spring fractured or broken. This was confirmed by rivertown Toyota. Leaf spring recall dated July 2015 | broken spring makes audible clunk or bang. Fractured springs may hit fuel tank repeatedly and cause explosion or fire. Toyota refuses to fix . . . . . Until. . . They can find a remedy to stop it from reoccuring.

7 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

Took truck in for frames inspection--dealer says I get a new frame--no cost. Dealer is backing out of their word because campaign ended 3 months later--was told campaign would be good for several more year. Service adviser never checked ending date. Emergency brake cables are rusted again--fixed several times--poor product. Rear differential cover plug rusted beyond able to remiove to change fluid--another huge rust issue with Tacoma trucks--not just the frame. The steering mechanism, timing belt pulleys, wiring supports, etc --anything that is metal is corroded because of the poor quality of steel--just not the frame. The timing pulleys were so corroded that they cut my bel--lucky for me it still had 50% of it remaining and did not blow engine--truck had 63,000 miles on it at time. Told to bring truck in for rear springs campaign--I did--they don't have the in stallion kits--been back ordered for months. Campaign says they could rupture the gas tank and end in disaster--any you don't have parts!!!.

9 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

Well have spent my 2nd day on the phone with Toyota about my truck. I have talked to mechanic and head of service at local dealer, larry and robie from ernie palmer Toyota, gary, rosa and daysha from Toyota corp hq, nicole case manager called me today. Needless to say the recalled springs on my truck have not been replaced even though their recall letter plainly states that if your vehicle is clunking and banging from the rear end get to a dealer immediately for repair because they could puncture my fuel tank causing fire. If they fail driving it could cause alot more than a fire. The original mechanic told me that it was definitely associated with the recall but they did not have parts to repair and I would be notified as soon as they came in. I have never been called for the repairs and it months later. I have spent the past two days on the phone with them trying to get this situation resolved and was told that I needed to return to the dealership again because they noted in the computer that I was in for noise in the rear end and did not specifically state that it was because of the recall. Now I ask why would they leave me in a open repair order and tell me it was due to the rear leaf spring recall if I just came in for noise. The service dept told me today on the phone with corp that they just lube the springs if they make noise. My husband said that is for squeaking not for banging and clunking and he agreed. I am still aggravated that the repairs have not been made and I still have to go back to the dealer and let them inspect it again even though it is dangerous to drive. This makes no sense. I will be told again that they do not have remedy parts and will have to wait until they get the parts in for repair. I told them I do not care if they put in another set of recalled springs in my truck that were new just to get me thru until they have the replace parts.

10 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Got recall notice in December of 2014 for defective rear leaf springs. Also got notice in December of 2014 of service campaign to fix corrosion on frame of vehicle. Called dealer was told to come in for inspection. Dealer determined that my frame was in very bad condition corrosion and rust and that I would need to have the frame replaced. Said they would fix and replace the rear leaf srings at the same time they replace frame this inspection took place on wed January 14th 2015. My truck has very low mileage its a 2006 and I have only 60,000 miles on it. After waiting months to hear from dealer I called Toyota, they told me in April that they wer still waiting for parts. I filed a case number with Toyota, called them back on June 15th 2015 after hearing nothing from them. Now on June 15th 2015 they tell me they are still waiting for parts. Meanwhile the safety recall says that the rear leaf spring could snap and rupture my gas tank. I need help with this.

11 Rear Suspension Springs problem

12 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

Replaced rear leaf spring as it was broken and sticking out side of retainer. I paid for this. Received a Toyota recall of defective rear spring notice on August 2014. Have not received another notice for spring replacement. Another spring problem with retainer clip broken in 2015. Durand Toyota said they could not replace springs until I received second notice but would have to weld spring in place unti second notice is received. This is a major safety issue and I request it be addressed immediately by Toyota.

13 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

We had started hearing a clunk and bang in the rear end of my vehicle back in sept 2014. We tried to locate the problem thinking maybe it was something under the seats in the storage compartments. We could not elevate the problem. We then received a recall notice about rear leaf springs and called the dealer where we bought the vehicle. They told us to come in immediately. We went in and they read my recall and inspected the truck. The mechanic told his boss that someone had come in the week before with the same problem and they could not figure out what it was and told his boss to expect them back with their truck and notice soon. We were then told that my notice was an interim notice and they would place a work order for my truck and let me know when the parts came in. I expressed my concerns as the letter states that they could break and puncture brake lines or the fuel tank. I explained to them that this was my only transportation and was told they would receive the parts soon. That was back in October. They have yet to receive the parts and now it is banging and clunking on both sides constantly. I called today 2/15/2015 and they told me they still don't have the parts. I was told they would call when they came in. I told them if I was still alive. He told me he didn't think it was that drastic. I said well the letter states it could break and puncture the fuel tank. If I am going 70 on the interstate and it punctures the tank that more than likely it would catch on fire. He said to call corp and gave me a 1 800 number. Well needless to say my truck still is not fixed and there is no telling when these parts are going to come in. I don't care if they have to put new recalled parts in my truck as long as I would be safe until they got the new improved parts. At least I would no that I would not get killed or kill someone else.

14 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

I have been experiencing significant rusting of my frame. I have complained to Toyota about it with little satisfaction. I also waiting excessively about rear leaf springs recall notices. Remedy taking too long. I also issues with TSB but Toyota placing burden on owner, not company.

17 Rear Suspension Springs problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2007

4. My rear end was constantly bottoming out and as a result it created a pretty harsh ride. What exactly does that mean? well, every time I carried a full load of passengers / towed our 19' boat, / or hauled material in the bed it will bottom out. The slightest dip or speed bump even at 10mph is felt. Do I feel it when I'm by myself and the bed is empty, and there are no other passengers? yes, but at higher speeds. Do I ever off-road my vehicle? no. \ well, typically in the pre 35 thousand miles while under warranty Toyotas paper work would constantly state that they were unable to duplicate the problem, therefore there was nothing wrong with it. I called to make an appointment the second time and a girl answered and I asked about making an appointment and I told her about the issue that I was having, and she responded, telling me that my truck was beyond its warranty period. Oh, I have 66, thousand miles on it and purchased it in January of 06. Anyway, she gave me an 800 number to see if I was eligible. Well, a request was put in for one of the main mechanics to take a ride with me to witness the problem. A very short ride later after having hit a few small dips at 10, 20, and 30 miles per hour when he both heard and felt the bottoming out of the vehicle. He suggested that we go back to the service center. We got back and the first thing he did was look under the bed and he popped up and stated that the springs were flat on one side and off on the other side. Why didn't everyone else do the same before, now when it's to my convenience to have the issue addressed, I'm denied. I'm denied about an issue that's been there all along. I was simply told "sorry, we can't do anything for you. Your mileage is too far over the warranty. ". I've never heard of any other 1/2 ton pickup not being able to carry a load. They should just call the Tacoma a cruck because it's more car than truck.
