Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control) and 14v604000 (suspension). The contact called and took the vehicle to the arlington Toyota located at 10939 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, FL 32225, and after two weeks, the technician stated that the frame was rusted and needed to be replaced prior to the recall repairs being performed. The contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,100.
On December 1, 2019 I was backing into a gas station fill up spot. As I let off the gas to apply pressure to the brakes the truck revved up and started accelerating in reverse. I applied as much pressure to the brakes as possible only to continue accelerating in reverse. I could fill the truck's brakes attempting to stop the vehicle but the truck's back tires are squealing over powering the brakes. I finally come to a stop on one of the poles that protects the gas pumps after hitting another vehicle. I have contacted Toyota and they sent a third party company to pull the information from the event data recorder. I was told I would get a report over what they said happened within 30 days after the third party has inspected the vehicle. It has now been 37 days and Toyota is refusing to give me any information. I have done all the recalls that have been issued on the 2006 Tacoma. On one recall they installed an override that would have decreased acceleration in the event that both the brake and gas were being depressed at the same time. This did not work in my accident. I have noticed on this site that there are 144 other complaints on this make and model of truck of the same thing occurring, yet that is not enough to say that the truck is unsafe? I am convinced that the truck is a danger and Toyota is not responding and have missed the deadline of getting me the report within 30 days.
Body rot due to corrosion of manufacture defect. Toyota sprayed the body under cost but again coming off and body rot through out vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While driving less than 1 mph downhill, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact stated that the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to kendall Toyota (located at 6930 old seward hwy, anchorage, ak 99518, (855) 981-5457) to be diagnosed. The contact was not informed of what caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was also contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
I was pulling into my driveway with the intention of parking in the garage. I was slowly with my foot on the brake, turning into the driveway when the vehicle simultaneously started to squeal (as I was on the brake) and accelerate. I kept pushing harder and harder on the brake, the squealing continued. I was able to put the truck in park and shut the ignition off prior to crashing into anything.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Original recall 09v388000 for speed control was remedied by modification to the gas pedal and replacement or repurchase of the floor mats. On my truck, I accepted their fixes. Since then, the replacement floor mat has torn and is once again loose and a risk to being stuck in my gas pedal. Of note is that the replacement floor mats were much lower quality (cheap fix) than the original floor mats and had I known this I probably would have asked for the repurchase option. Either way, the existing floor mats are sub-standard and pose as risk which should require replacement with a mat the quality of the original mats or better. I have pictures I'd like to send you that make it abundantly clear.
I was commuting to my home mid-afternoon on interstate hwy 94 when the traffic ahead of me began to slow. As I approached the slowing traffic ahead of me I removed my foot from the acceleration pedal and began to coast to a stop when unexpectedly my truck began to accelerate very quickly. I immediately began to apply the brakes using both feet, my hands gripping the top half of the steering wheel with my shoulders thrust against the back of my seat. I stayed on the brakes the entire time that it took for me to have traveled the 50-60 feet before I hit the vehicle that had now come to a stop. It was only after I collided with the vehicle ahead of me that my truck stopped accelerating. For that entire time I was on the brakes, the tires screeching so loudly that the person in the vehicle that I hit heard them prior to the impact. This incident has shaken me personally and I no longer have any confidence in my truck so I no longer drive it. I have contacted Toyota and they have issued to me a case number for this incident and have sent to me a consent form to allow them to download data from the vehicle's event data recorder as well as to physically inspect the vehicle. I did initially schedule a diagnostic appointment with my local Toyota dealership where I bought the vehicle new but they would not perform any diagnostic work as a result of the vehicle having been in an accident. They gave me the telephone number for Toyota corporate to call. The vehicle that I hit sustained $1,100. 00 worth of damage. What are my options in this matter concerning my vehicle and the damage to the vehicle that I hit.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). The dealer was unable to supply the parts for an extended period of time. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was contacted and was unable to supply the parts for the recall repair within a reasonable time frame. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Finally did floor mat recall work done on my 2006 Tacoma. New floor mat is thin, flimsy, nothing like original thick all weather floor mat. I also want to add, there was nothing wrong with the original design aw floor mat for Tacoma vehicles, there was absolutely no interference with the accelerator pedal, and that the only reason I changed the mats was due to the mat ribs starting to break on the driver's side. In addition, the campaign called for the floor carpet to be vacuum cleaned and shampooed, and none of this was done. The dealer simply swapped-out the floor mats and charged-out $185 to "recall work", I don't even think they did any pedal adjustment. Here's the real problem: the new, thin, flimsy floor mat uses the old floor mat retainer hooks that were intended for the thick all weather floor mats. These floor mat hooks hurt my feet when driving barefoot, but more importantly, they can, they will, and they have caught and hooked-up the heel of my shoes on occasion. I am a very safe driver, do not tailgate vehicles, and I tell you now, these hooks have caused me to get into embarrassing situations and very near accidents due to my shoe getting caught in the hooks and not being able to brake properly and on time. If I modify the hooks or cut them, there is a good chance that the new mat will slide-up under the pedals, preventing use of the brakes and not being able to stop the vehicle. I will not do this, I will not assume this responsibility. At this present situation, at this present design, the liability rests with the manufacturer and the authorization for this recall design modification. As I mentioned earlier, there was no problem with the original design for this specific year/make/model; however, the recall modification did create a problem where none existed, and made the situation worse than original.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while standing in the driver side doorway the vehicle accelerated independently rolling over the contacts foot. He ran to catch up with the vehicle and after jumping inside he was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but after a month no diagnostic had been performed. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer who stated they would not assist until the contact signed a release for them to examine the black box of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000. Dt.
While driving on interstate 15 I accelerated to pass a car in front of mine, approximately 65 mph , I signal to the left, moved to left lane while I accelerated, when I cleared the car on my left I released the gas pedal, the truck kept on accelerating without my foot on the pedal, I looked and there was no interference of any floor mats luckily my truck is manual transmission and I shifted to neutral while the truck kept on accelerating. I taped the gas pedal and truck decelerated . This has happened a few times since I bought the truck I am the only owner of the truck and I bought it brand new from. After talking to a few dealerships and Toyota care , they keep on telling me that it's the mats, but I have replaced the mats already and the issue is still there. No help from Toyota.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. Approximately one month later while the contact was driving in reverse, the contact attempted to shift into drive with the brakes depressed when the vehicle exhibited an unusually loud noise. The vehicle then abnormally accelerated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they performed a diagnostic test yet the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer purchased the vehicle back from the contact. The current and failure mileage was approximately 37,000. Updated 03/07/lj the consumer stated the problem was not due to a floor mat or sticking gas pedal, it was something electrical within the acceleration system. Updated 05/06/11.
This is the second incident with my 2006 Toyota Tacoma, double cab. In Feb 09 the truck ran away on me after accelerating to pass another vehicle. Rpm raged and truck would not slow down, it speed to over 100 mph, brakes locked. See previous report. I had it towed to the dealer, who called Toyota in and had the vehicle for two weeks. In the end they were not able to duplicate the problem. The dealer offered to buy it back for a ridiculous price, which I could not afford to accept seeing that we paid over $30,000 for the vehicle. I have driven it with kid gloves since, not trusting the vehicle at all. My family will not ride with me and my adult children refuse to allow their children to ride also. On July 9, 2010 I started the vehicle up and the engine was racing, rpm to 7, oscillating back and forth. I put it into gear and started out slowing, engine continued to race. I drove it for about 5 minutes, but felt very unsafe. I believed it would again accelerate out of control. Light did come on indicating to take to dealer immediately. This light did not come on for over 5 minutes. I called my dealer and they told me to have it towed in which I did and start a case with Toyota which I did. Truck remains at the dealership at this point.
My 06 Tacoma has had two accelerations, the first time I ran across a traffic lane to the side of the road, the next time it was in a supermarket parking lot. Toyota checked the truck out, said all was fine. The next time Toyota had a tech. Look at it said it was fine, would not give me any paper work,at this point I was afraid to drive it,my family would not ride in it. Tried to buy a Toyota, they would not work with me on the price, told Toyota that I was getting a new truck and wanted them to pay for one-half. They did not deny it,I sent them the invoice for 3500. 00,have not heard from them at this date. Toyota has given me the run-around and this has been a hardship on me and my family, I like the truck, put alot of extra items on it,I was planning on having it a long time.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while braking from the speed of 25 mph for a traffic stop, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and the vehicle proceeded through the traffic stop. The contact immediately shut off the engine and when restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. Six months later, the exact failure occurred a second time causing the contact to crash into a mailbox. The vehicle flipped onto its side and crashed into a ditch. The contact was able to get the vehicle into an upright position. The police did not arrive. The contact suffered moderate injuries to the head, neck and knee. The vehicle sustained substantial body damage as well as damage to the exterior mirrors, turn signals and windshield. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for further investigation. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had significant concern of the safety hazard. The failure mileage was 79,000. Updated 08/24/lj updated 08/25/10.
I was going about 50 was slowing down for a red light, the truck started to speed up on it`s own, pulled to the right just missing a car and went off the road. . This was reported to Toyota and the NHTSA. . Of course Toyota said no problem found. . . Nothing from NHTSA. . This has happened twice,no other family members will drive the 06 Tacoma.
Toyota Tacoma 2006. . . . Engine lurches at red lights. . . When idle. . . When warming at intermittent or sporadic times. Rpm goes from 1. 5 to 3. 5. This normally happens when I have my foot on the brake. . Only twice has it lurched with my foot not fully on the brake. Both times I was turning and had my foot near the brake so that I had time to push hard on the brake to keep me from running into the car in front of me. I have had the truck for almost two years and it happens on a regular basis. It lurched during one of the turns last weekend on a trip to florida.
I am the owner of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that was involved in a roll over accident on 2/14/2010. My son was driving the vehicle with 2 passengers on a church outing. They were stopped at a traffic light waiting to turn. When the light changed he said he tried to accelerate but the pedal did not respond, the second time he tried the vehicle took off. As he tried to round the corner, the vehicle kept accelerating, he tried to brake but they did not respond. He lost control of the vehicle and hit the curb on the adjacent side of the road and became airborn. They went down an embankment and rolled. There was another vehicle of young adults traveling with them, and in the lane next to them on their left. They saw the whole thing and said they could hear the engine racing. When the got to the vehicle, they were able to get everyone out and my son just kept saying "what the hell happened". They were all treated and released with minor injuries. This vehicle was in the Toyota recall for floor mats. I did not have Toyota mats in the truck, I had very heavy rubber mats. I believe this vehicle experienced the accelerator pedal issue that has caused hundreds of other crashes. We are just fortunate no one was seriously hurt.
My 2006 Toyota Tacoma has a problem surging forward at stops. I have not been involved in an accident but with the current recalls now on other Toyota vehicles I am concerned. The only current recall on my vehicle is for the floor mats. I was wondering if there were any other complaints like mine? didn't know where else to state my concerns. Have done some research on my own. Found some Toyota owners forums online others have stated they have the same problem. Please help!!.
On a couple different occasions my Toyota has taken off by itself. The last time I almost wrecked the road was slick and it start taking off. I was talking to my friends they said there is a recall on Toyotas. I called the dealer and he said my particular truck has no problems. I disagree with that.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While the contact was driving approximately 2 mph in reverse the vehicle surged resulting in a crash. The police appeared on the scene and there were no injuries reported. Prior to the failure the vehicle had been taken to an authorized dealer for routine maintenance. The dealer stated that the floor mats were exchanged and the vehicle was safe to drive. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 70,000.
I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. On 2 occasions in the last few months I thought my accelerator pedal went down slightly increasing my speed without me doing anything to make it happen. On both occasions the roadway was wet and I tried to explain the weird feel by telling myself it must be hydroplaning.
Problem: throttle hung in a wide-open position while driving. No carpet problem was involved. This has happened twice to me in a two week span!!! I would like to report a serious problem with my 2006 Tacoma. On 10/29/09 while towing a trailer I experienced the first occurrence. I had two passengers with me that can attest to the truth of my situation. I depressed the throttle and the motor suddenly went to a wide-open position. Fortunately, I was not in heavy traffic. I attempted to slow the truck with brakes alone but they could not stop the acceleration of the truck. My only thought was to turn off the ignition. I did so and brought the truck and trailer to a safe stop although it was very difficult without the power brakes being active along with the fact that I was also towing a trailer. I checked the throttle and gas pedal connections and found no obvious problems. I then attempted to restart the truck to see if possibly the computer cleared itself. When I turned on the ignition, the motor started and instantly went into a full-open throttle mode. I shut it off before it reached a very high level. We then checked all the same things we already checked and I decided to try starting the truck again. This time, it started and ran like nothing ever was wrong. We drove the truck home with no other problems. I brought the truck to my local Toyota dealer where I had purchased it. They inspected both the throttle body, engine codes, and test drove it and told me that they could find nothing wrong. I was sent on my way with no charge to me. They gave me no paperwork as I normally get but I did confirm that this complaint was put into their computer system. This same problem happened to me once more on 11/02/09 which also happened to be my birthday. I feel extremely fortunate to not have been involved in any accident to date but I must tell you that I do not feel safe driving this vehicle at the present time. Ref. Toyota national headquarters file #0911125974.
Driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma on military base. Stopped at back of a building to let a soldier pass going into the building. Soldier was not in front of truck anymore, pressed on accelerator and truck took off. I hit the brakes and truck starts "spinning out" for a couple of seconds.
S10 appropriate handling- courtesy copy of message to mr. Toyoda from regarding Toyota acceleration 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The consumer stated while driving, the vehicle suddenly and without warning accelerated at a high rate of speed and crashed into a guardrail. The vehicle was totaled.
This is a description of an event that occurred in September of 2009. , bellingham washington. I was southbound on I-5 approximately . 25 miles south of sunset drive. I was traveling at about 60 mph, when noticing a slow vehicle directly about 300 ft ahead I signaled and moved into the passing lane to pass the slower vehicle. Traffic was fairly light. Just as I was just past the slow vehicle I noticed I wanted to take the upcoming off ramp, so I accelerated briefly to gain speed to move back into the slower lane. , fortunately traffic was light because the vehicle started racing, I had let off the accelerator and nothing happened, instead I applied both feet first gently quickly firmly to the brake even with the brake firmly applied with both feet my speed was well in excess of 80mph and the engine was racing. Several hundred feet in front of me was my offramp and traffic, lots of it. I asked my husband sitting next to me if he could reach down and pry the accelerator from the floor, he tried unsuccessfully, at this point I new I had to get off the highway or rear end someone on the highway first, then again the same would be true off the ramp which was a fairly short right sweeping ramp. I didn't think we would make it and was most concerned about hitting someone else so I decided to take the ramp, at the same time carefully holding the wheel I ducked under it all the way to the floor and jerked the accelerator pedal out to the top, immediately returned above to the turning ramp both feet still pressed hard on the brake and just as I got to the end of the ramp, the vehicle stopped right in front of mcdonald's. . I just gripped the wheel tightly looked at my husband and said loudly !@#$% (excuse me) thank you god. I had never told anyone of this incident but it haunted me and when I heard of the issues going on in January I thought over and over I should contact Toyota. I finally did, I think it was about a month ago. I did get a response. Safety issues don't affect my vehicle why?.
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner. I received a notice regarding the floor mat entrapment recall, however, the engine has over revved on one occasion requiring two feet on the brake and an immediate shift into neutral to disengage the accelerator. Now the accelerator is slow to return to idle and it often revs up while I'm trying to slow down , especially at lower speeds. I called the dealership today and was told that there was no recall for my vehicle and that there was no problem with my truck. I explained that I had received an official recall notice. The service rep. Re-stated that there was no problem with my truck. But there is! and floor mat is not the problem. It is so tightly secured to the floor by the factory connectors that it is, and has always been, a major pain to remove for cleaning. I don't take it out to clean because it is so hard to get disconnected. That is why I feel that the accelerator issues with my truck should be included in the second recall. I believe that this issue is more complex than is being stated. I felt that way when I received the floor mat recall notice and I feel stronger about this every time the rpm's rev and my foot is not on the pedal. The initial problem occurred before the floor mat recall notice arrived and continues intermittently. No accident or crash occurred, but the first time the pedal stuck wide open I was in a very small parking lot and would have hit the bartell's pharmacy building if I had not put it in neutral. I am awaiting notification about the first recall fix but remain extremely confident that it is not a floor mat issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly surged forward andwent trough 2 fences and over 2 driveways. The vehicle could not be stopped by applying the brakes and it only stopped surging because the engine stalled. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 45,000. Updated 8/28/09 updated 09/02/09.
I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma prerunner double cab 4x2 v6. I bought the truck new from the dealership and have experienced four instances where after pressing the gas pedal hard, thus into overdrive, the truck either kept speeding up or did not rev back down. 1st instance - about 6 months after buying the vehicle, I was entering the freeway and needed to speed up to enter into traffic at speed. I pressed the gas pedal hard enough to boost speed. As I entered traffic, the truck just kept speeding up. After applying a light brake, I pumped the gas pedal several times and it the transmission finally engaged and geared back down. 2nd instance - while leaving the freeway @ 65 mph I slowed to 45 mph and switched lanes to the right. Then I applied gas to speed up to merge and the truck did not slow down. Again the link between the throttle and the transmission did not seem to reaction as in a normal situation. I had to merge back because the would not slow down fast enough. After 4-5 seconds the truck slowed down. 3rd instance - again entering the freeway. I applied pressure to the gas pedal to speed up enough to enter the traffic. This time the throttle opened full bore. I put the truck in neutral, lightly applied the brake, and pumped the gas pedal. After 5 seconds the truck finally revved back down. I reached a speed of over 90 mph in this instance. 4th instance - driving uphill the car automatically increased throttle with a small amount of additional pressure to the pedal, the truck surged forward, again full bore. I used the same technique and it eventually slowed. This problem is definitely not a floor mat problem. I now drive my truck very gingerly so as not to replicate the issue. I have taken the truck to two dealerships, both have not been helpful or have recognized the problem. Saying that "your truck is not on the recall list we see here, call this Toyota number. " I know that others with the same model have this problem.
