2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2025

My 2007 Toyota Tacoma has an open recall on the rear leaf springs due to the risk of fuel tank puncture and fire. However, Toyota and their authorized dealership are unable to perform this safety recall because the vehicle’s frame is too severely rusted. The dealership informed me that attempting the repair could further damage the vehicle, and they requested I sign a waiver releasing Toyota of liability if harm occurs during the recall process. They also informed me that replacement frames are no longer available, so the recall cannot be completed as I was interested to pay for this to get the recall safely completed this leaves me with a vehicle that presents a known, life-threatening safety hazard, which Toyota cannot resolve. The frame corrosion is due to a previously acknowledged defect for which Toyota offered limited-time frame replacements that expired before I owned the vehicle. I believe Toyota is violating its obligation to provide a remedy for this open recall. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue, as it appears Toyota is leaving customers with dangerous, unrepaired vehicles and no available remedy.

Failure Date: 07/27/2022

Yesterday, 7/27/2022, I had my 2007 Toyota Tacoma access cab at my mechanic's shop for a minor issue. While on the lift he noticed significant rust on the frame rails. He brought me over and showed me extensive areas where the metal was completely rusted through. I have never seen anything like this on even the oldest of vehicles. Subsequently I did a search online and found that this was a known issue for many years of Tacoma truck frames, but I was never notified by Toyota or anyone including the local Toyota dealer where I have had services done. I cannot believe a company as well established as Toyota would allow such a potentially serious problem to go unaddressed. Toyota should be held responsible for selling defective and dangerous vehicles and be required to effect repairs as soon as possible completely at their cost. . Read more...

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2021

Structure: the frame on my 2007 Tacoma single cab, 2 wheel drive truck is severely corroded in several places, making the vehicle structurally unsound. Additionally, the support bar for my radiator is so rusted out, the radiator is likely to fall out, should I hit a large pothole at any rate of speed. The frame has a roughly 1” hole completely through, on the front driver side, and is scaling and flaking in a number of areas. This vehicle is used almost solely as transportation to and from work, and running errands, in an area with moderate temps, so no salted roads. While we do live on an island, the truck is not brought to the beach, as it does not fit my entire family, and we have a separate 4x4 truck which we use for camping, beach days, etc. I know there was a recall on the frame, but we never received any notice, nor were we told by the servco Toyota shop where the vehicle was serviced at that time. We bought the truck second hand from a dealership in 2011. The vehicle is available to be inspected, upon request.

Failure Date: 05/20/2021

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma double cab used on 06/09/2017 with 41,915 miles from a car dealer (lia Honda of brewster NY. ) I was aware of the frame( chassis) problem with corrosion ,but the sales man told me the truck was inspected any problems with the frame it would be fix before they sale it to customers. On October 13, 2018 I received by mail a warranty enhancement notification -zh6 ,limited service campaign -h0f; so I scheduled an appointment with to a dealer close to me (johnstons toyoya in middletown, NY ). Johnstons Toyota inspected my truck on 10/26/2018 with 48,527 miles on it,and told me the frame pass. On 5/27/2021 I took my Tacoma to my mechanic to service the ac compressor, while he was working under the truck he noticed the from frame behind the front bumper a hole in the frame support . I contacted Toyota and they told me they can't do anything for me to contact Toyota in texas to see if they can help me out with the problem they also told me the campaing expired on on 1/31/2019. The truck have only 59,000 miles .

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2021

Took the truck to the mechanic for an oil change and he told me the frame is so rusted that it is not safe to drive. I was told that Toyota was replacing the rusted frames for the known problem but I cannot find how I can get the process started.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma . I have called Toyota headquarters about the frame they said the recall has expired and my truck has been fixed for the frame issue, now there definition of fixed is a undercoating that hasn't done a single thing to prevent the rust. It will not pass the va state inspection. I spent a lot of money on this vehicle for some bullshit recall that has expired a safety recall should not expire. It is a danger to my life and others. I will continue to drive it until something is done. It is my only means of transportation. This either needs to be fixed or I need to get my money back. I have called several times and have made several reports it shows that NHTSA is a joke they do not care about anything other then the money they profit. Thanks.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2020

I shut the front drivers door and my back window blew out. I did not slam the door I just shut it. The vehicle was parked in the shade on my property. The rear window has a slider in the middle, the part of that shattered was the rear window on the passenger side.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2019

Vehicle in motion when the steering column came off and all steering of the vehicle was disconnected and impossible. Adjustable steering column system appears to have failed and fell to lowest position unexpectedly. Pulling up and out on the wheel to return to my normal position gave no resistance and steering wheel, blinker/wiper control housing, ignition housing, and adjustable column controls came off the mechanical connector for the remaining steering column, breaking the ignition switch and disallowing further operation. Vehicle rolled to an uncontrolled stop and was able to be pushed to a safe place and placed in park.

My 2016 Hyundai tucson stumbles a lot upon acceleration from a stand still. Sometimes while making a turn. A few times it put my daughter in dangerous situations. Hesitating while acceleration though an intersection. It is very frightening. I took the vehicle to the dealer twice. Once in July 2019 then again in October 2019. The first time they told me they had no idea what could be causing the vehicle to hesitate and stumble upon acceleration. They told me they had reset the computer on the car in hopes that it will fix the issue. Then the second time they told me it may be my air filter and or my fuel injectors need cleaning. I declined both because the dealer who I bought the car from just had them cleaned and air filter was almost brand new. After trying to convince me that something else could be causing the car to hesitate he finally confessed that it was a transmission issue and that one other Hyundai car had the same issue and they had no solution for the fix. They also said that they were waiting on Hyundai to come up with a fix. In the mean time my daughter, who I bought the car for, continues to drive the car until Hyundai recalls the car and have this problem taken care of.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Toyota never notified me of any frame rust issues, nor was I ever contacted regarding a class action suit which does involve frame rust on my vehicle. I had to perform extensive research to inform myself of the issue. When I visited a dealership for leaf spring replacement, I was told that frame rust was too extensive to perform the repair, however the dealership did not make me aware of the results of a class action suit regarding frame replacement and that the frame would need to be repaired at my own expense, at which time I could not afford. A qualified shop indicates that my frame is too rusted to repair. . Read more...

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

There are 3 recalls on my vehicle in which I've been notified about. I called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and tried to set up a date in which I can leave my vehicle. The recall notification from Toyota stated that I would be provided a loaner vehicle while the work is being performed, since the rust treatment was going to take 4 days to dry. Now since I've requested a loaner vehicle the dealership continues to avoid my calls or let me speak with the head repair technician. The problems with the vehicle has had recalls for safety hazards and potential death while driving.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

Corrosion issues with Toyota. Had my vehicle chassis inspected per a notification received in 2016. Dealer indicated "nominal". I viewed my chassis soon thereafter and noticed metal separation. I reported this to Toyota. Com and received nothing. I now have a piece of metal whose weld broke due to corrosion. I was given an updated letter by my local independent mechanic. I never received this and have not received any treatment to my chassis. This is a safety issue, particularly since welds are breaking due to corrosion. This has been ongoing since July 2016. Pictures were taken in 2016, within 3-4 weeks of the alleged dealer inspection.

Takata recall there was a recall on the 2007 Tacoma that ended on 03/30/16, but I did not get a notice, called the company and there will not do anything about it. I did notice on some web site a lot of complains that not getting the recall for the frame. Is there anything that I can do?.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

For "limited service campaign", my Tacoma was inspected for excessive rust holes in it's frame on 09/25/2015. The dealership declared that my truck passed this inspection. On my next visit ,05/24/2016, for a highway noise problem & oil change, the dealership decided on their own to re-inspect for frame rust and declared it had failed the frame rust inspection. They said the campaign was over and I would have to pay for the frame rust repair. The dealership did this inspect & re-inspect in this manner to avoid their responsibility. I filed complaint # 1606271989 with Toyota and was denied . I have service reports #6207015 and 6240379 that document this service and results.

23 Equipment problem

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

Last fall I received a limited service campaign follow-up notice from Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. Regarding potential hazardous situations arising from possible frame perforations. Their letter said and I quote 'some vehicles may not have sufficient corrosion-resistant protection. . . This may contribute to the development of more-than-normal rust in the frame of some vehicles'. The letter suggested the owners of said vehicles schedule an inspection at a participating dealership no later than the March 31, 2016 expiration date. The inspection was performed on December 11, 2015 at sunrise Toyota, 4002 sunrise hwy. , oakdale, NY 11769, (631) 589-9000 and a perforation of the frame on the front drivers side wheel well was discovered. The dealership informed me that it presented a safety concern that would require total replacement. At this point I was told it was ordered and would take 4-6 weeks to arrive. At 8 weeks I had to make the first contact. They said now it could be between 3-4 months but never reached out to inform me of this change. At 12 and 16 weeks I called the dealership again to no avail. They have no idea of a delivery date and don't seem to care. At this point I called Toyota corporate customer service and they provided me two things. They would have sunrise Toyotas customer relations manager call me also to absolutely no avail and to provide me a reference number [xxx] for my complaint. Please exercise influence on sunrise Toyota to address this hazardous situation promptly and with full disclosure. Thank you very much. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

Received a recall from Toyota regarding unusual frame rust for my 2007 Tacoma. I brought it to a Toyota dealer for inspection. They determined the frame was rusted through in places and had to be replaced. The inspection was in Dec. 2015. They told ne they had to order parts and it would take 3 to 6 months for them to arrive. I checked with the dealer this week (3/14/2016) and was informed the parts are still on order and they could not give me an eta for their arrival. I think 3 to 6 months to repair something as fundamental as the frame in a truck is excessive. This recall should have a higher priority. The service technician told me they are awaiting frames and related parts for numerous Tacoma trucks at this time. In the meantime, I am reluctant to drive the truck any distance or with any significant load in the truck. I also cannot trade in or sell the truck in this condition. This recall has a potential for a major accident if the frame fails while at highway speed.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

Bought this truck last year. Took to Toyota to get inspected and do recalls. Not inspectable. Rusted frame. 9 month wait to fix. Rear leaf spring also recalled, but cannot fix, don't know how right now. Amoungst many other safety issues!!! owe $15,000 plus on truck, cannot drive or do anything with!!! cant even sell it. Why is this huge corporation allowed to continue to get away with this??? they have known problems stemming several years and have not fixed anything. How many people have to die that are not aware of these issues????.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

2007 Toyota Tacoma, rusted frame. . I purchased used in austin texas on oct 2015 from a dealership. The truck is from a northern state, affected by massive amounts of rust on the frame. I took the truck in for a look over, I was told I had a few years left in the truck before the rust rots completely through. Toyota needs to recall the 2007 models as well. I just bought this truck thinking this was going to run for a very long time, I was mistaken and buyer beware.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2015

Toyota can't build frames for their trucks. Mine is rotted. Toyota plans to spray it with a rust inhibitor. They have recalled every 2006 and older Tacoma for this issue and won't recall the 2007's. I now own a pile of junk and Toyota won't do what's right even though they clearly know there's an issue.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Constant noise in the leaf spring and catastrophic failure. Dealers in puerto rico never replaced them knowing they were damage.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

I heard a loud noise (boom), good thing I was able to pull over on the side of the highway when the vehicle stopped and stalled. When the tow people came and saw the damage underneath, it was the drive shaft joint that broke. I could have gotten into a serious accident. The vehicle is fairly new, my mechanic is having a hard time looking for parts (drive shaft) and all the other parts that were damaged because of this incident.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

The four wheel drive actuator/transfer case motor went out. It was not repairable and had to be replaced for a considerable price. From what I learned from the Toyota dealership this seems to happen often.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2012

At approximately 42000 miles I noticed a vibration in the front drivers side wheel. I had all four wheels replaced and the vibration continued so I took the vehicle to estabrook Toyota in pascagoula, ms (because that is where I was at the time). When I went to pick the vehicle up I was told the repair manager had personally checked the car out and determined it was the right front bearing so it was replaced and supposedly test driven. I left the store and immediately felt the vibration once again on the left front so I brought the car right back and they replaced the left front bearing as I had initially identified as the problem area and the problem went away. Now, two years later the left front wheel bearing has gone out once again and I am afraid to drive the vehicle.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2008

No accident involved but there is excessive rust at present and was an extreme amount back in November 2008. Looking at the leaf springs; grounding screws securing the wiring; just the complete truck is terribly rusted and with a feeling of a possible road issue. I feel that it is unsafe.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2007

As is well documented Toyota has had many years of trucks having rusted frames. Toyota settled a class action suit to cover the frame rust for 12 after the date of manufacture. The previous extended warranty on trucks made earlier were offered 15 years after date of manufacture. I now have a 2007 Tacoma that has had frame rust complaints since I took delivery in 2007. Everyone, including a regional factory service tech said it was normal. I believe that entitles me to have had my complaint well within the 12 years as I complained in 2007. Please help me and the thousands of other Toyota owners all suffering with the same issue. This always should have been treated as a recall.
