I am requesting executive-level review and assistance regarding a documented paint failure on my 2022 Toyota Tacoma, finished in paint code 040 (super white). Toyota has informed me that my VIN is not included in customer support program #xxx. However, this determination does not align with the physical condition of my vehicle, which exhibits the same defect described in that program. The paint on the upper door frame surrounding the driver’s side rear cab window is actively peeling, with bare metal exposed. This is not cosmetic wear, environmental damage, or owner neglect. It is a manufacturing paint failure, occurring in a non-wear area and consistent with issues documented on other 2022 Tacoma vehicles with super white paint. Exposed metal presents legitimate concerns regarding corrosion, long-term durability, and diminished resale value—none of which should occur on a vehicle of this age. Toyota’s reputation for quality is the reason I purchased this truck, and this experience has been both disappointing and frustrating. I am requesting that Toyota acknowledge the defect based on physical evidence, not solely VIN eligibility criteria, and provide a fair resolution, including inspection and repair or repainting of the affected area. I respectfully ask that this matter be escalated for review and resolution consistent with Toyota’s commitment to customer satisfaction and product quality. Sincerely, [xxx] owner, 2022 Toyota Tacoma Toyota brand engagement center reference # 251105002053 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2025

Known issue of paint peeling around the window frame on white vehicles. However, Toyota indicates that this VIN is not affected by this reported issue. They cannot explain why and deny it could be happening based on the VIN number alone.

There is a large screen in the vehicle and the oem sends messages to me that are extremely distracting and hazardous as the one I recently received was recall notice telling me that the rear axel could fall off the car. I received this "text" while I was driving down the interstate at 65 mph and it scared me and gave me a panic attack. It is illegal for me as a driver to text and drive yet it seems perfectly ok for the oem to text me while I am driving and foces me to read their message. This is a flagrant and completely obvious safety hazard. Why the engineers at Toyota were not Smart enough to realiz this is a preventable safety hazard is shocking! it is also shocking at the federal regulators are not taking action without prodding from a consumer. Please fix this safety hazard as in addition to the stupid text I also received a huge yellow hazard sign that blocked my view of my spedometer so there are two hazards that need to be addressed. I urge you to do a recall of these issues with my Tacoma truck and do not allow the oem to communicate these recalls to me on my vehicles screens but rather contact the owner via email, phone call and put an immediate stop to all the dangerous messaging the oem uses. This is an extremely dangerous matter and I am concerned a driver like me could be seriously injured or killed while driving. 0.

Power steering pump was replaced at 33000 miles 12-7-23. Timing chain seal leak, engine was pulled at 37700 miles 6-19-24. Power steering pump leaking again at 45500 miles 1-3-25. White paint peeling at 45500 miles 1-3-25. Toyota said $1100 for new power steering pump that is 12500 miles old. They will not cover white paint peeling in 3 areas.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

Sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving. This was an open freeway with no other vehicles within 1/4 mile ahead and there were no bridges or overpasses. This is a newer vehicle that had less than 5,000 miles on it. Sunny day with temperature around 75 degrees, windows were up with the a/c set to 70 degrees.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Vehicle exhibits symptoms typically associated with (at least in older vehicles) of a failing torque converter. Initial onset was around the 5k mile mark, the truck was purchased brand new. Vehicles shudders under load, especially uphill or from a stop, the truck frequently hunts for the gears during shifts (truck will initiate a shift and then just rev up and down, depending on if you remove your foot when it does it to avoid damaging the engine), I have clanking and a metallic clicking sound coming from the bell housing, tranmission casing and bell housing radiate heat from under the vehicle hot enough to be uncomfortable climbing out of the vehicle after a 30-45 minute drive (my youngest recently started asking me to pick her up out of the truck cause it "burns" * hot** on her leg, where she used to love climbing and jumping off my steps), my avg milage dropped from low to mid 20s to avg 14-18 miles per gallon since the initial onset, and the dealership and Toyota customer service keep telling me there's nothing wrong with it, they all do that, and they're just "vehicle characteristics" of the Tacoma. . I've driven friends and family members Tacomas of the same generation that did not do it, and mine did not do it new! they told me at first it was just the transmission learning my driving habits and I told them I would give it time. . Last interaction with dealer, who hinted they would buy it, Toyota told me that I would have to pay for a transmission service in order to check it properly (manually/not with an obd scanner) and if there was a confirmed issue that I could try and apply for reimbursement. This vehicle has 22k miles on it and has been serviced as instructed everytime. Originally only very slight surging felt between 40-50mph, now it is at any speeds and significantly more violent at lower speeds or when trying to merge on interstate (truck loses traction to rear end occasionally during 55mph shift in moist or foggy weather while merging).

Our nonprofit agency raised funds to purchase a brand new $57,000 Tacoma for our food bank deliveries and when it was shipped to molokai from oahu, the air conditioner does not work. With the current heat wave, it is a danger! I called the sales dept, who referred me to management, who referred me to customer care who referred me to service dept who referred me to customer care again who referred me to sales. I called 7 different entities. . . An endless loop. No one will help us. There is no "authorized " Toyota dealer on our island and it will cost me $1000+ to ship it to honolulu, just to have someone tell us what’s wrong. I don't even believe this is the way the mission and vision of Toyota is carried out. The way we have been treated and devalued as a cash paying customer is beyond ethical. As a customer who just did massive fundraising to make a cash purchase for our non-profit agency of a once in a life time vehicle, I don't think I should have been disrespected, devalued, ignored or told to pay to ship the truck back at an expense of $1000+ to the agency. Its a new truck!!!!!! the air conditioner does not work at all. It blows hot air. The vehicle has 23 miles on the odometer and to me, that is a new truck that should have worked. However, I realize also, things can be defective, that is why there is a warranty. But we should not have to pay for the shipping, to have a mechanic on oahu look at it. We have plenty of mechanics on our island, but no "authorized" dealer. I offered to pay for the Toyota mechanic to fly over as that would be cheaper, but no one agreed to doing that. I offered the services of certified mechanics here on island to fix it and submit the bill to Toyota but this too was denied. I don't see how this behavior is in alignment with the vision and guiding principles of the Toyota company's mission as I read it online. I am completely shocked at the callous way I was treated and how no one will assist beyond telling me to call someone else.
