Suddenly the gas gauge shows tank isfull even that it can be empty. I took the truck to the dealer for this issue, but it seems that there isn't a fix. I've heard some other Tundra owners have the same issue. This can be dangerous if I trust the gauge and forget to fill the tank before towing my 7k trailer.
Vehicle sporadically hesitates when accelerating from stop. Cause unknown. Dealer declined to address condition because they could not replicate it.
Dear NHTSA team, I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding the extended recall processing time for my 2022 Toyota Tundra. I am deeply concerned about the length of time my vehicle has been out of service and the significant inconvenience it has caused me. Vehicle information: make: Toyota model: Tundra year: 2022 VIN: [vehicle identification number] recall campaign number: rmisc-24v381-8150 recall details: my vehicle was brought in for a recall issue related to a major engine failure, which is a significant safety concern, in may [year]. Despite the considerable time that has passed since then, I have been informed today that the repair cannot yet be performed. Given the severity of the issue and the extended time my vehicle has been out of service, I believe it is unreasonable to continue waiting for a resolution. Therefore, I am requesting that the dealership buy back my vehicle as a resolution to this matter. Since my truck has been in the repair facility, I have been driving rental trucks. This situation has been both inconvenient and costly. The prolonged absence of my vehicle has disrupted my daily life and work activities. I would like to request the following: an immediate status update: please provide me with a detailed update on the current status of the recall repair for my vehicle. Expected timeline: an estimated timeline for when I can expect my truck to be repaired and returned to me. Buyback request: I request that the dealership purchase my vehicle back given the unresolved and safety-critical nature of the recall issue. Compensation information: information on any potential compensation or reimbursement for the extended period I have had to use rental trucks due to this recall.
Throttle hesitation causes unsafe driving. Often times after slowing down at a yield sign and then accelerating there is a hesitation like the accelerator pedal is dead for about 1 second and then the truck suddenly lunges forward. A few months after purchasing my truck I reported the issue to shelor Toyota and they did TSB 0111-22 which temporarily fixed the problem. Drove the truck for about 10 days and it was hesitation free. After 10 days or so the hesitation returned and it was as bad as ever. It’s very dangerous when driving on wet roads. The danger is slowing down to an almost stop to turn right or left on to another street. Once I complete the turn and try to accelerate on to the next street, I am forced to keep depressing the accelerator more and more to make my truck move forward. A few seconds later when the acceleration does occur, I lose control of the back end because I am now at half throttle om a wet road and it sends too much torque to the rear wheels causing them to lose traction. I’ve tried to adjust my driving habits to allow for the unpredictable throttle response but it is impossible to predict what the throttle response will be from one time to the next. It is a struggle to drive this truck in a safe manner because there is hardly ever any linear acceleration. I took my truck back to shelor Toyota March 15th 2024 for some warranty work and reported the hesitation had returned right after they previously completed TSB 0111-22. This March 2024 visit to shelor Toyota they contacted Toyota technical assistance regarding the issue and according to Toyota assistance “condition is a normal characteristic of this vehicle”. Shelor Toyota does great warranty work and treats me very well and I only have praise for them.
Engine is running rough, engine is idling very high went first start. ,I am concerned about the temporary fuel line repair. I don’t believe it is sufficient because we are dealing with fuel. Fuel line should be replaced along with the engine having debris in it, I am concerned with even driving it. A brand new truck shouldn’t have all these recalls! this is like the 5th one. I pay to much money to drive a truck that I’m scared of driving. At this point tell them to give me back my money and I will go purchase a horse. Thank you!.
This is unacceptable this is a major safety issue and why is it taken Toyota so long to resovle this major issue.
Inaccurate fuel gauge or fuel consumption tracking to protect a fuel pump. Vehicle equipped with a 32 gal tank. Vehicle indicates zero miles after 27 gallons are consumed. This leaves 5 gallons remaining or 15. 62% fuel remaining which is excessive error. If you know you have over 100 miles remaining when the software say you are at zero you tend to drive "past" zero as a matter of normal operation. It would not be unreasonable to wait until 2 gallons remains to refill tank as that would still be 30-46 miles remaining. It was explained to me that the fuel pump uses the "excess" 5 gallons of fuel to keep the fuel pump "cool" since the fuel pump is a submersed type pump. An overheating pump inside a tank full of fuel vapor might be a significant problem.
Being parked my truck started leaking fuel from the refuel port area, after inspected the truck found that fuel was coming out from the charcoal canister ( refueling line, truck was towed to dealership service department on 3/6/2024, service department inspected and found flap valve in gas tank not working properly allowing fuel out of the tank and charcoal canister contaminated, service department replaced the fuel tank and charcoal canister without any good results, once they refueled the truck to deliver it to me the truck started leaking fuel again at the same area, they explained to me that now they are going to contact Toyota engineers to take the case. Needless to say having the truck leaking fuel next to the rear left brake assembly could cause a un contained fire.
At certain times, when coming to a stop, and then attempting to proceed, the throttle with delay or lag from a stop. This has happened since the start of ownership in Feb 2022 up until today. Toyota has issued on previous technical service bulletin (TSB) - t-sb-0111-22 - that Toyota states should resolve an issue with "hesitation from stop and surge concerns". The tcm -transmission control module - logic has been modified to address these conditions. According to Toyota, this updated logic should keep this from happening. This TSB was released December 16, 2022. To date, this issue continues to occur. The only way to keep it from happening is to reset the tcm learning. This requires the battery to be unplugged for an extended period of time. There was a subsequent tcm logic update for recall 24ta02 (NHTSA campaign number 24v125000). It would seem that this tcm logic update has actually caused this condition to be present more often. This is something that we have expressed to our service consultant at every visit and it is still occurring over two years later. We have had this happen multiple times while attempting to proceed through a 4-way stop, as well as trying to merge into traffic in slower moving city streets. There are members of an online forum who have been able to record the data flow and show when and how the delay occurs. Other than December 2022 TSB, Toyota has not acknowledged this issue even though it continues to occur on the my22+ Tundra/my23+ sequoia, as well as the my18+ Lexus LS 500. I am lead to believe this is a result of the programming for the direct shift 10-at from aisin/Toyota and/or the v35a-fts, both type '17 (LS 500) and the type '21 (tundra/sequoia).
I’ve been attempting to get a recall fix for a while. Dealership won’t give me any updates other than “ we are still pending the part” since Feb 2024.
Toyota said oct 2023 would have remedy, then failed to provide it. They postponed to Nov 2023. Now, it Dec 2023, and they still don't have a remedy. The car was grounded for 3 months.
The fuel line recall is still pending post temporary fix late ’23 early ‘24.
Vehicle sometimes fails to accelerate when the accelerator is depressed. When this occurs, the vehicle moves forward slightly but then stalls while the engine is still running with no warning lamps or messages displaying. On several occasions this has caused me to enter into traffic (usually from an intersection or parking lot) and then discover the vehicle has stalled and won't accelerate. Removing my foot from the accelerator and then reapplying accelerator pressure usually corrects the issue but creates a dangerous situation and increases the chance for collision. The issue was first noticed on my vehicle about 2 months into ownership and has been reported several times to vandergriff Toyota, arlington, texas. No resolution has been offered as the dealership can't identify or replicate the problem. T-sb-0111-22 was issued in December of 2022 and supposedly addressed this issue, but the problem continued after this work was performed on my truck. This issue is also well documented on the 2022 -2023 Tundra forums with many owners still experiencing this problem. My vehicle is available for inspection.
Nhtsa recall number23v566 recall statusrecall incomplete, remedy not yet available issue still is not being addressed by Toyota in a reasonable time. Even their so called temporary clip fix is not available. How long do I need to wait for my vehicle to catch fire before someone fixes this issue?.
My gas gauge does not work properly . When I fill it up it showing full. I will put on any where from 40-70 miles and my gauge will show I have 3/4 of a take before empty. Then I turn it off and when I turn it back the gauge goes back to full. Went to a dealership twice . The first time they replace a gas pump and some other things. I picked it up drove it around and the same thing happened. Took it in a second time and they told me Toyota has no solution to fix my gauge .
Since owning the vehicle, I still have long lag time when accelerating from a stop. Also, I’m experiencing bad vibrations in the rear of the vehicle which start 5/1/2023. ~10,000miles.
Truck has hesitation when throttle is pressed. Worse when cold and/or when truck starts nose down from a stop. Dangerous when pulling into traffic.
This has happened 3 times now. From stoped at a red light or pulling out of a parking lot. I start to accelerate like normal for about 5 feet and then a total loss of power. This leaves me coasting into traffic and about 2 seconds later it takes off like normal.
Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.
There is hesitation when depressing the accelerator. After stopping at stop sign then trying to move into traffic the vehicle will not move for several seconds. When the vehicle does move it takes off at an increased rate. This has happened several times from the first day the vehicle drove off the lot until present day.
When stopped at an intersection, whether for a stop sign, stop light, or waiting to turn, there are intermittent times when there is a very distinct lag or delay between when the gas pedal is pressed and the vehicle actually starting to move. As I said, this is intermittent and not an 'all the time' occurrence. However, when pulling out and crossing traffic, not knowing whether the vehicle is going to go or not is very disconcerting. At best, I feel like I am left exposed and wondering if I am going to get hit. At worst, that delay causes others to also have to react, potentially making the situation worse for more than just me. The date below is just an estimate to when I first started noticing the issue.
Intermittent issue: when pressing the gas pedal, there is often a delay of 1 to 2 seconds, followed by an acceleration surge. This has created potentially hazardous conditions during otherwise routine traffic situations. The delay has resulted unpredictability and the surge has caused loss of control when on gravel surfaces.
Throttle lag when pressing gas pedal. This has happened on mulitiple occasions. This has been happening when I come to a complete stop. No warning lights indicating this. I fear that if this does not get fixed my family and I will be severley injured or may end up dead. I took it to 2 Toyota dealers. One in san antonio, texas and one in del rio, texas they both said, "we see nothing wrong. And to bring it in when it starts happening again. " also they stated that Toyota has not sent any recalls out for this so they cannot do anything to help.
My 2022 Toyota platinum hesitates on acceleration. This happens constantly. I pull out of my neighborhood street onto a busy street, the truck moves forward then hesitates in a busy lane, then will surge ahead. This leaves me exposed to oncoming traffic. I have just missed being hit many times. This happens at intersections, where it will hesitate and the car behind me almost hits me. Thank you.
When trying to accelerate from a stop this truck lags and hesitates to the point of stalling almost when pulling into or crossing traffic. I have been in many near miss collisions due to the hesitation and lack of response. This has been going on since I’ve owned the truck in 22 and the dealership failed to address it or even acknowledge it.
I have been noticing since the beginning to middle of March 2022 the truck has been stalling while driving. It has happened 4 times since that time. Twice while in traffic and twice while driving on the highway. You have to come to a complete stop, put the vehicle in park and start the vehicle again. One time it happened we were almost rear ended by a semi truck driving behind us. Along with that, the air bag malfunction light has been coming on and off every few days. The fuel gauge has been showing all different fuel amounts as well every day. The truck has been a Toyota dealer for the past week and been communicating with Toyota engineers and I have been told by the service advisor Toyota is aware of these problems but do not have a fix. My family is terrified to drive the truck any longer and is a very dangerous and serious problem. I am not the only one who is experiencing this based on my own research. I did tell my dealer to document this on my record in detail as if anything happens to my family because of an engineering error I will take this to the highest level ever seen.
Vehicle had 11,000 miles on it and just was serviced at the dealership the day before. I was stopped in the middle turn lane trying to turn left. I hit the gas to cross 2 lanes of traffic and my engine stalled. I barely made it across traffic and the oncoming traffic had to slow down in order to avoid a t-bone type accident. The dash board lit up like a christmas tree with warning lights. I still had battery power and able to slowly pull over to a side road, nothing more than 10mph. The engine would not turn over or engage. I power off the vehicle, let it sit for a couple minutes. I attempted to start the vehicle again, but there was no power to anything. I had the key fob and attempted to touch it to the start button to make sure it was in range, still nothing. I called road side assistance and had them tow the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership stated it fired right up without any issues the next morning. They could not provide a reason for the power loss or give an explanation for the warning lights because their computer did not have a history of it. I have since driven the become another 30k miles and have not experienced any loss of power. However, a safety recall for the exact motor in my truck was issued for all 2022 and 2023 Tundras. The hybrid trucks were not in the recall. The incident described above was a big safety issue and very close to a bad accident. No doubt in my mind this motor is defective and it will happen again. I believe every truck with that engine should have the safety recall. I called Toyota and asked their brand engagement center about it, they said to write a complaint to NHTSA. The hybrid battery and motor are not even close in power to what the engine is. Surely there are more hybrid owners who have had the same problem. Please add the hybrid trucks to the recall. It’s the same engine. I am saving this message for future reference. If I die because of this defect, at least my family will own part of Toyota.
Randomly when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll (less than 5 mph) the throttle doesn't respond for 2-3 seconds then the truck will surge. When I say it doesn't respond I mean nothing happens no rpm increase or anything. The dealership wants me to believe that it is turbo lag, but that is just a decrease in power, not total loss of acceleration. This has been an issue since delivery.
1. Jan 3 power steering wheel low power error message 2. Jan 18 truck stalled on freeway when hit hard brake dealer can't duplicate issue just return the truck 3. Jan 31 check engine light was on dealer said fuel gate issue but didn't doesn't need to fix 4. Feb 2 all brakes led went out dealer replace instrument cluster truck still at dealer as of today 2/10/22.
Many times while pushing the gas pedal the truck lags and wont move and I have almost been hit by another vehichle trying to enter traffic. This happens when the engine is warm and has been running for some time. A couple of times the truck has done this and I have had to hit the gas pedal to the point of mushing it all the way to floor and the truck finally responds and then takes off out of control and fish tails. Very scary!! most of the time its just a lag while coming to a stop at a stop sign and then push the gas pedal and there is a throttle lag before the truck moves and then is abrupt.
