When I am at a stop, and the traffic opens for me to go, or the light turns green, I press on the accelerator and nothing happens. The car just rolls forward under no power or it just stays still. About 5 seconds after I'm slamming the gas pedal to get me out the lane of oncoming traffic, or holding up a light the car wakes up again and starts going no problem. This has happened multiple times in compromising situations, and it's going to cause an accident. I called the dealer and they said nothing is wrong with it. I have read multiple cases online of this exact issue. So, there is clearly something wrong with the car.

I am submitting this complain regarding my 2021 Toyota Venza, which has developed a serious defect involving the fuel system. Although my vehicle is fairly new, I began experiencing problems with the fuel door not opening properly. Initially, I could not access the fuel cap, which left me unable refuel in a timely manner. Soon after, I noticed additional fueling issues: while attempting to refuel, the gas pump would repeatedly shut off and stop the fueling process. After taking the vehicle for inspection, it was determined that the actuator responsible for controlling the fuel door and fueling system required complete replacement. I am concerned this defect represents more than just an inconvenience. Inability to open the fuel door or complete a fueling cycle can create dangerous situations - such as being stranded without fuel or blocking a fueling station. Additionally, if the actuator fails while in use, it could interfere with the proper venting of the fuel system. I have since learned that other Toyota Venza owners are experiencing the same problem with the actuator, suggesting this is not an isolated case but a potential widespread defect. At approximately [xxx] on Friday, [xxx], my wife was slowly pulling into a stripped parking place at museum hill's lower paved paved lot on [xxx], in santa fe, nm that has three levels when the car suddenly bolted up and over the concrete curb and up a short hill where it faced the fronts of two vehicles; the car stopped (possibly due to automatic braking systems) and rolled backwards into a small tree resting off of the pavement on soil, but against the curb. There is front end dislocation of the right fender and the passenger door hits the fender if trying to open it. The right front tire is broken and the alloy wheel is damaged. After a disagreement with a towing company, I backed the car over the curb and onto the pavement where I installed the spare. The car seemed to be ok to drive and my wife drove it home 3 miles away on back streets. The car's event data recorder was inspected by an employee of eaa from denver in Toyota of santa fe's dealership shop on [xxx] and the car driven. Toyota's report from their legal claims analyst said that "pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal prior to the impact. " my wife was going to her regularly scheduled lunch time support shift at the [xxx], was pulling into her regular parking area, and did not press the accelerator to the floor causing this wreck. I believe that the power steering created a negative voltage drop that caused the concurrent calibration of the accelerator electronics to believe that full power was required at that instant. The safety of my wife was at risk, but no other person was nearby and damage to shrubbery was not consequential. This problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, several papers on the subject have been written by ronald a. Belt, phd of Plymouth, mn, the latest dated 20 July 2024. I am the primary driver of our 2022 Toyota Venza. On Wednesday, may 29 I had just taken the car through the splash automated car wash on 41st Ave. In capitola, CA and I was navigating into an adjacent space for use of the vacuum cleaners. As I took my foot off the accelerator to put the vehicle into park, it suddenly and unintentionally accelerated. It crossed the driveway entrance to the car wash, jumped a curb which was actually the top of retaining wall for the parking lot of the adjacent business, and sailed over the retaining wall into the parking lot which was over 2 feet lower than the level of the car wash. I was able to bring the car to a stop without hitting anything, but 3 tires were blown out and severe damage occured to the underside and front end of the car (we are awaiting estimates of the damage to the car). The airbags did not deploy. I had a minor shoulder bruise from the seat belt but no other injury. The car is at an auto repair shop awaitinng estimates and adjuster inspection. No report has yet been filed with Toyota but we expect to file today. No independent service center or other inspection has been done yet. There was no warning system notification prior to the incident.

No acceleration from stop, sudden loss of power. I was stopped, coming out of a parking lot, getting ready to do a right turn onto a main road. I let go of the brake pedal, and when I applied pressure to the gas pedal, there was no acceleration, like the engine was stalled. The car crept forward slightly, but could not accelerate at any measurable speed. After about 3-4 seconds, it finally started accelerating as normal.

When driving in slowed traffic the car would not accelerate for 3-5 seconds. No warning lights appeared. I had slowed to 5mph and upon pressing the gas pedal the car had no response and put me in danger as all traffic around me accelerated and the Venza would not respond to gas pedal. I removed foot from pedal and tried again and after sustained gas pedal for 3 seconds the car slowly resumed movement.

There is an acceleration issue that only happens sporadically. From a stopped position (stop sign/stop light) when I let go of the break and start acceleration with the gas pedal, it doesn't work. Even if I press down more in the gas pedal, it merely creeps- as if it were in neutral. It happens with turns or going straight. I have no clue what could be causing it. The breaks still work, and the gas pedal starts working again after about approx 10 or 15 ft of rolling. When the gas begins working again its a smooth engagement- no jarring or revving. And it only happens sporadically, maybe 8 times since I bought it in 2022. I have had it looked over at the dealership twice and they found nothing and are not willing to fix this issue- as they say there isn't one. I worry greatly that this will result in a crash.

On three separate occassions, when applying the gas pedal, the car did not immediately accelerate. One time I was pulling out across two lanes of traffic and the accelerator was to the floor and nothing happened for about 5 seconds. The last time happened today, 11/3/23, leaving a gas station entering traffic. I hit the gas pedal and it was 3/4 the way down before the car moved which, once again, could have caused a accident pulling out into traffic. I took the car into jones junction with the complaint and they could not find any issues after allegedly checking the fuel pump. Online other individuals are having the same problem.

- vehicle was operating as normal. Slowed down to a complete stop as normal. When attempting to accelerate from stop, vehicle had no throttle response and slowly idled into the intersection. Would press pedal down and nothing would happen. About 5 seconds later, vehicle gained throttle response and took off quickly. Unable to duplicate issue at this time, appears to be intermittent. - safety was risked due to inability to take off from a stop and being stuck in the intersection for a brief period of time. - unable to duplicate problem for dealer to confirm. - called the dealer and they stated they needed to do a diagnostic, but it needed to be in a failed state. It is not currently in a failed state. If it was in a failed state, I’m unsure how I would get it to the dealer for inspection as the issue is lack of throttle. - no warning lamps or other symptoms prior to the failure.

On numerous equations, when I press on the gas pedal the car does not react from either the hybrid battery or from the engine. I will depress the pedal and the car pauses for a few seconds before it moves forward. This has happened multiple times at different mileages but until this report, I did not think much of it since it was not in a near collision situation. On two occasions as I am pulling into traffic I will put my foot on the gas and since I get no reaction, the cars coming towards me have been very close to hitting me. One would have been a t bone incident where I would have been hit and another would have been a rear ended situation. Both times, the cars coming towards me had to brake rapidly. I have taken the issue to the dealer to examine. There have been no warning lamps and it does not happen consistently.

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car fails to go forward. This incident has occurred six times and often seems to be at the worst times, such as pulling into a busy road from a stop sign. The car will start to accelerate and stop with no response from the gas pedal for 3-5 seconds. There have almost been a couple of accidents with this vehicle because of this issue. No check engine light or any light at all came on in the car when this incident occurred. This vehicle has been taking to the dealership and the problem has been mentioned to them, however with no codes to read for the obdii they claim there is nothing they can do about it.

The miles do not seem accurate as the tank should hold 14. 5 gallons but always register less than 11 gallons when filled. Total miles in that vehicle should be around 552 but has been 479 the last few times. Toyota dealers says not issue. Complaint in with Toyota motor CO. I have pictures of this issues which has been going on for a little while but just documented the issue. This is an issue because I don’t know the true mileage I wait til the warning light comes on to fill but that has not been accurate lately. There are no warning lights or anything that there may be an issue with that car.

I was turning onto traffic and I tried pressing the gas pedal and nothing happened. I was in instant shock as I feared I was gonna be hit then I pressed the gas pedal again and I was able to accelerate properly. This just recently happened but hasn't happened again since.

There have been 2 occasions when I have been trying to make a left turn and the vehicle fails to accelerate. The pedal is pressed all the way down and nothing happens. Once I released the pedal and pressed it again, the vehicle accelerated. The first occurrence happened a couple of months ago. I was making a left turn, pressed the gas pedal and nothing happened. Vehicle did roll forward putting me in traffic lanes putting me in danger of being struck. When I depressed the gas pedal again, it worked. I believe I was in normal driving mode. The second occurrence happened on 4/5/2022. I was making a left turn, pressed the gas pedal and nothing happened. Vehicle did roll forward putting me in the traffic lanes and in danger of being struck. When I depressed the gas pedal again, it worked. I was in sport driving mode at the time.

Fuel tank filling issue. Could not fill anywhere close tank capacity, dealer claims it has several gallons reserves. Driver does not know what distance to empty shows vs what is real, how much gas left in the tank. Supposed 560 mile range, only showing 420 miles. Even after driving dte 0 miles, user can hardly fill 11 gallons. Do not know the reasons why, whether gas is in the tank but can't use, or can't fill the gas. This causes confusion of real distance to empty and car might suddenly shutdown on highway or even damage the hybrid system. Seems known issue by Toyota, not acknowledging or fixing the issue. It has been observed over several tanks of refueling.

Twice in the (almost a)year I’ve had the Venza I have gone to accelerate from a stop sign and the car started to go then the gas pedal went all the way to floor and nothing happened - then when I tried again the car accelerated as expected. The first time (@ approx 4000 miles) I was turning left with oncoming traffic (of semi truck plus others) coming and had it happened a few seconds later - I would have been in a serious accident. Second time was just over 10000 miles on 1/12/2021.

I just purchased the 2021 Venza a week ago. I was not aware of the fuel tank issue with the rav4. When I filled up my Venza I noticed that it was not filling up to the full 14. 5 gallons as stated by Toyota. I would assume that there maybe some reserve gas in the tank. But had I not noticed this I would have attempted to continue driving since I assumed that the tank has 3. 5 gallons in reserves but I am uncertain. If this is the case anyone may become stranded or even worse run out of fuel on the freeway putting the people inside the vehicle in danger and causing life and death accidents. There is no documentation in the owners manual about the discrepancies between what Toyota states (14. 5 gallons) and the 11 gallons that it takes when filling up at the gas station.

Internal fault of fuel pump assembly. With no prior warnings of messages or warning lights from the dash, nor any poor performance issues of starting or running of the engine the fuel pump failed all at once while driving on an expressway at 65 mph and the engine shut down leaving me without any control of my vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who confirmed that the fuel pump had an internal failure and the vehicle is disabled. No recall has been issues by Toyota for this model year. An extremely dangerous situation that Toyota is not properly addressing.

Mfr case #'s 1805171831 & 181490595. Car in your shop 5/23/2018 thru 5/30/2018. If you accelerate quickly taking the engine past 3000 rpm's you start to get a strong rotten egg type smell in the car. We dropped the car off the complaint wasn't written right forcing them to call us to explain. Which I did and gave examples to drive it so it could be duplicated. A few hours later joe calls with they could only get brake smell from the car because it has aftermarket brakes on it. Like I did something wrong when I spent $900 instead of $2000. 00 for Toyota. Then I was asked what kind of fuel do I use. Now we use fuel from wawa, sunoco, costco, bj's in the last 5 years. The only thing I was told they did was a health report from a code scanner to find out it has no codes in the computer. I have found in google searchs 309,000 hits with the words "Toyota rotten egg smell" so I went to pick up the car and asked the service manger on duty if I could quickly duplicate the original complaint as they were unable to. Ran the engine at 4000rpms for around 2 to 3 mins. The car began to smell. The service manager on duty truly seemed to want to help to fix this said she would advise the Toyota field service representative when he came in on the 30th of may. I received a call & was told that the field rep couldnt duplicate the problem and the car is operated excessively and they refuse to do anything to the car. A car with 268hp and a tachometer with an over 6000rpm which the car has never seen and has never been past 80mph in its life of service. I have a problem believing they drove the car other than cruised around. They blamed the fuel I used and my driving. A car designed to run on 87 octane in their manual above horsepower and engine rpm limits. I had to duplicate the complaint quickly for them which they charged me for a diagnostic. Now a refusal by the mfr. Ridiculous.

On Friday, April 17, 2015, a clear, sun shiny day, I experienced a sudden, violent deceleration with loud noises while driving at about 40 mph on smooth pavement about three miles from my home. The slip indicator icon light was flashing on my dashboard indicating the vsc/trac had been engaged, cutting down the throttle and engaging the abs,intermittently, as I limped home. On Monday, April 21, 2015, I had the car towed to Toyota of northwest arkansas. The diagnosis was open circuit failure of the stop lamp switch. I find this disconcerting as the switch was replaced under recall three years ago. This incident was far more than just a nuisance and an inconvenience. This was a safety issue! if the failure had occurred at 70mph on an interstate, I might not be alive to talk about it. I contacted the Toyota customer experience center at (800)331-4331 [incident 150507-000193] to see if the switch design had been improved or a programming change had been made to change the failure mode, but got no indication anything had been changed. I was told that my case had been filed at their national headquarters under file #1505080785. Apparently my problem was not an isolated incident, because when I expressed surprise that a stop lamp switch failure could be so catastrophic, the service writer at Toyota of northwest arkansas said that this happens often, that "this was not our first rodeo". I believe Toyota needs to make some changes to avoid people being injured by stop lamp switch failures on the Toyota Venza.

I was sitting in the drive thru line of a fast food restaurant when the care took a sudden surge forward. I steered hard to keep from hitting the vehicle in front of me and manage to hit the bumper on right side doing over 1500 dollars in damage and swerved into another parked car doing damage to it also. The Venza had damage of more than six thousand dollars. The car has been repaired but I am afraid to drive it so it has been sitting in the carport since the day the repairs were finish. By the way that was the second incident of that kind in that car. There is something wrong with that car. Please investigate before someone is hurt or killed.

El diler no quiere reparar los problemas y me envia donde el manofacturero DE la goma y el manofacturero va realisar una inpecion por que DE entrada ellos me dicen que el problema noson las gomas ya que segun mi a legato ellos entiende que son amortiguadores del fabricante y defectode alineamiento y ajustete al tren delantero yal tracero pero el fabricante dela gomas va a certificar los proble para que el diler responda por sus obligaciones quele coresponden y no diga que el problemason las gomas pra salir del paso y el consumidor que se fastidie con el auto defectuoso y el servicio que los diler ES que me olvide del problema y disfrute la guagua con el problema y se vensamis derechon quiero que investiguenelproblema y que los diler respondan por sus problemas y no selo quieran pasar al consumidor ni al fabricante DE la goma.

Tengo problemas en la tracción delantera y en el tren trasero, cuando guío el vehículo en las rectas, curvas y en todo momento la guagua se siente arrastrando las gomas. En la parte delantera esta escalonando las gomas y ademas tiene problemas DE estabilidad en la carretera. El técnico privado recomienda el cambio DE las botellas frontales, ajustes DE los platos DE los 4 neumáticos y alineamiento. Estos problemas que presenta el automóvil se resuelven realizandole al vehículo las recomendaciones que especifica el técnico especializado, utilizo un técnico privado ya que el dealer no quiere resolver el problema, este indica que el problema ES del manufacturero del neumático pero, el manufacturero indica que los neumáticos están en optimas condiciones y que el problema ES del dealer, que el automóvil tiene un problema en el tren delantero y trasero.

Depressing the acceleration pedal has no effect on engine speed for up to 3 or more seconds. This situation has occurred approximately twelve times since car was purchased new in may 2013. It now has 1200 miles on the odometer. Car has been returned to the dealer twice for this reason without result. The last dealer visit in September 2013, I was advised the “drive by wire” system was operating to specification and there was no fix for the problem presently. Further, it is a problem common to the Venza model as well as certain other Toyota models.

Parked the car, locked it. About a minute later noticed smoke, then fire, very intense. The entire engine compartment was destroyed (radiator melted), front tire burned, and the fire damaged dashboard and interior as well. A car parked nearby was also scorched.
