On Dec. 17, 2023, shortly after 12:00 p. M. ,I was driving my Toyota Venza on the highway under normal when the steering knuckle suddenly fractured. This unexpected failure caused the vehicle to lose steering control, leading to a serious traffic accident. I inspected that part and found that the steerin knuckle had broken abnormally, as the break showed no signs of any impact.

The vehicle started to exhibit a popping or clunking sound in the steering column after 125,000 miles. Was told it was not dangerous and continued to drive while albeit was still distracting. At 165,000, the sound became extremely loud at hwy speeds of 70-80mph and cause the steering wheel to shake and pull to the left. Took to mechanic who told me to take it to dealer. Dealer immediately knew what the problem was but was told I would have to replace the entire steering column because there was no way access the bushing otherwise. It was 15$ eps bushing/damper that had literally worn down to nothing cause the power steering motor to vibrate on the steering column when going over bumps and driving at high speeds. Altering the alignment and causing a slow leak of hydraulic power steering fluid. This apparently is a fairly common issue with 2009-2015 Toyota Venza.

Forward collision avoidance; automatic emergency braking; adaptive cruise control; I pulled into a straight-ahead handicapped parking slot to park, going about 1-3mph . There was a handicapped sign in front of me on a newly installed steel pole. I pulled in within inches of the pole. When I tried to engage the brakes, the braking system failed to engage the brakes and slow down the car. The car instead accelerated and would have broken through a store front had the pole not stopped it. I also pushed on the brakes, but nothing happened, the car did not seem to slow down at all, like I had no brakes. It's like the brakes did not work and the automatic braking did not work either. There was a complete system brake failure. Also, the air bags did not deploy, which I'm surprised with so much front end damage to my car. So, in a panic to stop the forward acceleration, I put the car in reverse; after which the vehicle accelerated in reverse out of my control and crashed into a 3-foot concrete wall and another vehicle next to the wall. This crash stopped the vehicle. I had no control over speed of the acceleration, steering of the vehicle, or stopping. I am concerned about a defect in the brakes and the pkbs braking system. I could have been killed or backed into another person or car killing someone else. The car has been repaired. I did receive a msg about the raider cruise system being on days prior; I didn't know what it meant; it went away and I did not pursue why cruise control was on because I didn't engage it. I am seeking inspection by Toyota and my aaa insurance rep.

It was raining, I was driving in the far left lane next to the center divider. I noticed the car in front of me drive through a significant collection of water that was the width of the entire lane. I was unable to switch lanes, so I slowed down and went through the water as well. As soon as my Venza came to the collection of water, my steering wheel locked up. I was unable to direct the car in the opposite direction of the pull. I was not able to move the steering wheel at all. The car continued to go in it’s own direction, despite me pumping the brakes. The Venza spun out, hit another car before it crashed into the concrete center divider. As a result I smashed my head on the driver’s side window. My driver’s side air bags never deployed. No air bags in the entire car deployed. After hitting the center divider my car ended up in the car right lane. My car was towed from the scene of the accident, it was not drivable. The insurance adjuster originally totaled the car, then they changed their minds and said the car can be fixed. It’s been 3 months and my car is still in the shop. There were no warning lights, it was a brand new car, I had it less than 6 months. I could have died, other people could have died. If the steering wheel didn’t lock up I could have easily maneuvered through the water, like the car did I front of me and like I have done many times in the past with my previous vehicles. If the driver’s side air bag deployed I wouldn’t have suffered such a bad concussion requiring medical attention, neurologist, loss of work and loss of pay.
2021 Toyota Venza steering assist feature creates a safety hazard. The steering assist works with the cruise control and lane departure. When on, it appears that the steering assist picks up its position or centers the vehicle in the lane from the nearest white line on the right side. It positions the vehicle approximately 12 to 18 inches from the right line position thus positioning the vehicle slightly right of the center of the lane. One is forced to fight the pull of the wheel to maintain a center lane position. This steering assist function creates the following problems: 1. Off-center to the right can make it too close for vehicles traveling to the vehicles right. Also, it does not adjust for vehicles traveling too close or possibly swerve on your right side. It will maintain its position regardless of events alongside of you. It receives its bearings from only the white line. This condition is more severe when traveling in a left lane on a multiple lane road with a dotted line. 2. Because the steering assist picks up its orientation from a right-side line; when the line is out of position or not available, the car will automatically move right until it finds something to coordinate the cars position. Without something fixed like a line or curb it will take the car off of the road. When approaching an off-ramp, the right solid road barrier line, usually veers right off the highway and will follow the direction of the off-ramp. Under this condition I have discovered that the steering assist feature will actually take me off of the highway onto the off-ramp and alongside the right-most solid line wherever it goes. I feel that NHTSA still should examine any issue on a car that could make its operation unsafe. Furthermore, it appears that NHTSA has not performed any crash-worthiness testing including weight and roll-over. Why has safety testing and crash worthiness not been performed on this vehicle? lastly; why doesn’t it have a standard NHTSA door label?.

Both front lower control arms were cracked. Dealer kept old parts. These parts help control the steering to the wheels. The cracks were confirmed by the dealer only. The car was not inspected by any other entities. There were no warning indicators, the problem was founded during a routine multipoint inspection.

On hwy vehicle wouldn't stop or steer, lost all power and control. Came to stop in the median, had to have towed, cause is listed as :173600410, c1201, c1241, c1441 Toyota of irving called to inform me that they were not able to recreate the problem and that the vehicle is operating as designed by the manufacturer.
While I was trying to turn into the driveway of a relative apartment, the steering wheel got really tight and eventually locked up giving very little to no time to pull over for safety. The engine then shuts down. I cannot imagine how dangerous it would have been if this had happened while driving 65mph plus on a freeway. I've had the steering wheel locked up on me before while the car was parked and engine off, and I was able to get it unlocked by moving the steering wheel back and forth. However, this was the first time and a scary one where the steering locked up while the vehicle was still moving. I was lucky we were at a residential area when this happened. If this had happened on a freeway where other cars are zooming by, how dangerous is it to have a vehicle to all of a sudden locks itself up and shuts down giving practically no time to pull over? I should mention though that the battery light did just come on about two and half to three hours before the incident happen. Even so, I don't think it's normal or safe for such a short warning period.

The dealer said its a faulty intermediate shaft the vehicle has been doing this since I purchased it 7 months ago.
I was on the freeway all of sudden traffic stooped , I hit the brakes no abs the traction lite came on car went to neutral . I had an impact at 20. 1 mph according to Toyotas black box. The front end was damaged in the tune of $8300. 00 tore the front bumper off severe frame damage all in the area of the air bag sensor that was tore off. Come to find out after the accident their was an air bag recall we were never notified. The vehicle was fixed by a body shop recommended by the dealership that never checked out the system, I took it in for the recall they did not perform as per their supplemental documents from your web site. Now I have nerve damage and tendentious as I braced myself and bent the steering wheel. I have asked and asked for help from Toyota they told me the impact was not severe enough . My understanding is the air bags deploy at a 10 to 15 mph impact I hit at 20 plus . Their is a major flaw on the traction system the lite comes on when you apply the brake , I was told that my foot was to big and I push the brake to hard and I should not of bought the car. Edmund's web site has hundreds of complaints of cars acting the same way and some people have their cars stall in intersections . Bottom line with this issue someone is or has going to be killed unless their is a recall or investigation. I can be reached at 561-714-0519 thank you.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Venza. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the steering wheel would independently veered to the left without warning. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a tire mechanic in the assumption of tire failure, therefore, the tires were replaced and an alignment was performed. The failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure and they stated that the the vehicle needed an alignment. The vehicle was repaired, however, the steering wheel began to veer to the right while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure and they performed a calibration update, rotated the tires and test drove the vehicle. The failure persisted multiple times, therefore, the dealer was unable to locate the problem. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. Gb.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Venza. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle veered to the left and to the right. The failure occurred intermittently. The manufacturer was contacted and did not offer a remedy. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 1,100 and the current mileage was 1,200.
Driving home from work stopped @ stop sign, the lights on the dash lit up for check braking, abs, vcs system call your dealer. . . . . . So continued to pull out from stop, and squeals the tire, and the vehicle is all over the road when accelerating. Was told it is not a recall problem and my warranty just ran out. . . . . . Vehicle milage 28385. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If this happens please be careful car does not handle the same and you lose control easily. I think that all wheel drive is involved but it doesn't handle the same when driving. Taking to dealer this week! Toyota ref # 1305200125.
Seats rubbed on console. Strong electrical burning smell. Drivers side heated seats no longer operate. When in reverse and turning steering wheel loud squealing noise and thumping until placed in drive. Went to several dealerships who said they could find nothing wrong. Drivers side sun visor fell down and blocked ability to see when driving.
Toyota Venza 2009 constantly pulls to the left. When driving on a bumpy road it will drift to either side and when I step on the brakes, it drifts as well. Dealerships say it's following crown of the road, but it doesn't-it veers off the road. When taking a right turn, the steering is stiff and turns more to the left than right. I have visited 3 dealerships with no resolution. Struggling to keep car on the road and was very dangerous during a recent snow storm between avoiding to hit other cars and veering off the road. I have called Toyota hotline and they insist there's no problem. This car is dangerous to drive.
