P/s dashboard red light came on with sudden loss of steering assist while turning and driving. Luckily the car is light, but I could have easily hit an object, had it happened in a different location or at a different speed. Problem disappeared by itself. Two weeks thereafter, an extremely strong burned electrical circuitry smell suddenly filled the vicinity of the car, could be felt from about 10 feet away, while idling, while stopped for approximately 30 seconds with front wheels turned to the right about half-way, as I was checking my mail box upon entering driveway. A low pitch whining/droning noise was emanating from under the hood while the car was idling. The noise and odor persisted after the steering was set at 0 degree angle and after the car was parked. No p/s dashboard warning light came on. No loss of steering assist. No visible sign of smoke, fire, or melted plastic in engine compartment fuse box. Wire harnesses looked intact. Suspect eps - electric power steering motor. Outside temperature about 85of. Car driven for just 3 miles on that day, side street driving only, never over 35 mph. Ac fan on full blast, headlights off. Car had difficulty accelerating upon depressing the gas pedal on same day, prior to aforementioned incident.
Takata recall received interim notice, but did not receive any remedy notification later. Just received auto airbag settlement notice today. Called local dealer to follow the notice of getting the airbag replaced ASAP, and they said they had nobody there to operate the computer to verify my car was under the recall & call back another day. How come I could verify the same day on my phone & the dealer could not? now, I need to take my wife to the hospital & will not be able to contact the dealer until later. So two complaints; no remedy notification & delay by the local dealer.
The airbag did not deploy even though I hit the fence beside the window.
Bolts that holds a-arms are gone rusted completely off suspension is popping Toyota refuses to fix the problem even after knowing it’s a manufacturing defect estimated cost for repair is 2,500+ for a 7 year old car that only has 132k miles.
The contact owned a 2007 Toyota Yaris. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed and the steering locked. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into the rear of the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained burns on the chest, a cut on the lip, and a bruised right arm and leg. Medical attention was received. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v169000 (seats). The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
While driving at highway speeds, steering stick when trying to make slight steering corrections. This has gotten bad enough to where vehicle makes lane changes when just trying to make slight correction. Have had the vehicle checked several times, the acceleration sensor has been relearned three separate times with little or no change. This is very annoying and dangerous.
Purchased a 07 Toyota Yaris on 6/7/2010 certified with 77302 miles on it for my son. Car has had no incidents until 7/25/10 at approx 7:30 - 7:45pm est. Driving conditions were sunny and clear. My son and I have driven on the road many times before as it is very close to the house. When my son was trying to bear right around a turn at the top of the hill while going approx 25-30 mph he could not turn right to stay in his lane. Applied the brakes while the car drove directly into a large tree. There was no way to avoid the tree as the car would not allow him to steer it. The posted speed limit is 40 mph for the general area and 25 mph suggested speed for the curve. Although no airbags deployed, neither driver or passenger were injured. Damage to front end and the left quarter panel pushed back into the left door so the hinge is impeded when opening the door. Engine was pushed back on a tilt. The officer said he could not see any other way the accident could have happened as no one would willingly drive directly into a tree on purpose. The car was towed to a local Toyota dealership that evening. On 7/26 I spoke to the service manager (sm) as directed by the gm. The sm suggested I speak to Toyota via an 800 #. I called, gave details as described above and have a case number. I was assigned a case manager on 7/27 and was promised a regional Toyota investigator would look at the car within 10-14 business days. Shortly thereafter I spoke to the collision manager to advise her of the issue and waited for someone to contact me from Toyota advising me when the inspection will take place. On 8/13 a rep from Toyota's exec. Office contacted me and indicated I would need to sign an edr data readout authorization and consent form. They think the inspection will occur on 8/19 or 8/20. I have requested to videotape the computer screen during the download of edr & ecm data along with it backed up on a usb drive and get a printout and explanation from the inspector.
While driving at around 60 to 70 mph the vehicle constantly pulls to the right and to the left. I took the car to the Toyota dealer and the Toyota dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. Current mileage of this Toyota Yaris is 21,755.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. While driving 65mph, the vehicle jerked and constantly pulled to the left and the right. The manufacturer and the dealer were unable to diagnose the failure. The current mileage was 29,687 and failure mileage was 975.
Vehicle failed to maintain its course under sudden steering changes originated to avoid collision with another vehicle. It spun due to either lightness of the vehicle or failed steering, and hit the guard rails. The new 2007 Toyota Yaris vehicle had one new bridgestone potenza re92 tire (driver side rear) replaced by the dealer earlier that day just before the failure occurred. The vehicle was declared a total loss.
