Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problems of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

Rear abs speed sensors corrode and malfunctioned causing the "brake" and "abs" lights display on the instrument cluster, thus minimizing braking efficiency while driving. Internet full of customers with similar problems on Toyota Yaris cars.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2009

During the past several winters the brake and abs warning lights have come on when driving during wet snowy/slushy conditions. The condition would fix itself after the vehicle dried out. This started after 30k miles/2 years of ownership. This winter (2013) the warning lights lit up and stayed lit. Took it to the dealer and they said it requires a new wheel speed sensor and wiring harness. Research online has shown mulitple instances of this failure in 2007-2008 Yaris'. Toyota has issued a TSB concerning this matter. (TSB number: TSB-0120-08). This is a known failure that happens at one of the times that the abs system is needed the most. This is a safety issue and should be a manufacturer recall.
