1 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 08/29/2023

Since my original lease of my 2015 Toyota Yaris se from hanlees hilltop Toyota in January 2015, both the front and rear bumpers have continually come unfastened. This was described as a known defect by two employees at this location: tito anopol (phone 707-246-0528) and tyler (phone 623-693-5406). Tyler noted the roof trim was also notorious for coming unfastened. He removed the top inlets from the roof exterior, helped replace them with oems, yet they still flew off the vehicle on the freeway. On August 29, 2023, the service team at hanlees hilltop Toyota verified the tabs on the bumpers are broken, and are even saying they cannot guarantee they will be able to properly install new parts if I order them from here, and are trying to refer me to a body shop? this is completely ridiculous and an obvious safety hazard that Toyota is responsible for rectifying.

2 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

I bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris brand new. It's a one owner car with 216000 miles. 5 years ago, I noticed that the side skirt was rusty near the back wheel. Over time, they rusted out. One month ago, while pulling in at the gas station, I heard a crunch. I felt the drivers side of my car go down as well. Got out and drivers rear wheel was tilted in at the top. The passenger rear wheel was also leaning in at the top. The rear axle was rusted out on the welds. The car was about to crumple up in two. It looks to me like the car had a defect in which water somehow accumulated or ran down the back of that side skirt and rusted it, then the rear axle out. My little economical car is junked out. It may be one of the cheapest cars. . . Well I'm a poor person. I worked my butt off to pay for that and I thought because it was a Toyota that it would last. I was wrong. Thank god I only going 5mph. That could easily kill someone. Of course Toyota killed all kinds of people a couple of years after I bought that Yaris. I knew they were not to be trusted at that point. I thought I was going to keep my Yaris forever. I guess I thought wrong.

8 Body problem of the 2016 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

I drove from richmond CA to los angeles round trip. On my return trip, I heard a loud sound and when I saw my passenger's side mirror, it looked like my rear bumper was going to fall. The bumper was flapping vigorously. Soon after, my passenger's side was doing the same thing. I still had 100 miles to go on my trip. The rear bumper seems poorly designed and not secure. I do not trust this car on long distance trips. I'm a disappointed buyer.

18 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

I rented this vehicle at a major airport 2 days before the accident. It was close to 4 pm when I entered the hotel parking lot at 5 mph and slowed even more when I entered the parking space in front of my hotel room. I was almost parked and had my foot on the brake to make a complete stop just about 3 feet away when all of a sudden there was a sound in the engine like the turbine of an airplane and the car took off fast speed. Instinctively I stepped on the brake even deeper but the car did not respond: it went over the walk way and although I tried I could not control it. It stopped when it reached the wall of the room right next door to mine and broke into it. I immediately turned it off. The engine was still making the same turbine sound when I turned it off. It was an apparent case of self acceleration. Everything happened so suddenly and so fast! there was a major property damage to the building caused by this malfunction. Fortunately no bodily injuries resulted from this accident. The front of the car was totally damaged. It was pulled out of the room with police help and later towed from that location. The time of the accident was 3:55 pm, these facts are true and correct exactly as they happened and I have a witness.

24 Body problem of the 2010 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

Was hit from behind by a pickup truck going 40mph while I was stopped at an intersection. I was 5 months pregnant at the time. I was propelled into oncoming traffic where my right side passenger side was hit by a sedan. No airbags deployed. Contacted Toyota who reviewed my accident photos, and they claim the frame was not damaged, so the airbags wouldn't have deployed, but I don't buy it. The back end, glass, bumper, etc, was destroyed and my passenger door was completely caved in. The car was totaled. I don't see any reason the airbags would not have deployed, especially since I was completely stopped and was hit very hard. I suffered major bruising to my arms and legs, neck and back pain, all requiring several days off work.

25 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Water drain for a/c system condenser clogged. Has happened every summer since purchase in 2007. Water fills the drain, and gets trapped within the unit leading to an overflow onto the blower and blower motor shorting the relays. Fuses are blown, and the blower motor needs replacing. It has happened several times. A mold buildup also occurs in carpeting leading to a health hazard.

26 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

On 16 August, 2013, while turning into a garage parking spot I took my foot off the accelerator to press on the brake to come to full stop before the concrete column at the end of the parking space when, of its own accord, the car suddenly lurched forward at much accelerated speed. The car crashed into the concrete column destroying the front left head lights, entire front grill work, and the frame of the driver's side door was bent so the door would not be opened. No airbags deployed. On 20 August, 2013 my insurance company deemed the car a total loss.

27 Body problem of the 2009 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 04/25/2012

I'm writing about two design flaws that led to an unfortunate incident, and which could have had caused even more serious results. I believe the primary cause for this incident is a poorly designed interior trunk safety latch, and the dashboard display design is a contributing factor. I was driving on the highway, 35 miles into my trip. As I changed lanes, my trunk popped open (it had been latched) and my laptop in its computer case jettisoned out of the trunk and flew across the interstate, causing vehicles behind me to swerve. My mechanic upon inspecting the trunk observed the interior trunk release is designed such that it 1. Dangles freely in the trunk so could easily get caught on something that shifted in the trunk, and 2. Releases with almost no pull needed. What likely happened is that the strap of the computer bag caught on and pulled the interior trunk release when I changed lanes. Although this resulted in significant financial damage to me and breach of computer security, it could have caused an accident to cars behind me. Had the driver behind me not honked his horn and motioned me to pull over, I would not have been aware of what happened for quite some time. The trunk of the Yaris doesn't open wide enough to catch my eye in the rear view mirror, and I did not see the door ajar light come the dashboard display on the Yaris, centered rather than in front of the driver, makes seeing the signals on the dash during daytime driving very hard. Add to that, the door ajar signal, far to the left, is obscured by the rim around the display. In other words, you'd have to lean to the right to notice that a door, or in this case the trunk, just popped open. The placement of the dashboard panel is not great in terms of safety. Thank you for providing an opportunity for me to report these concerns with the Yaris design.

28 Body problem of the 2009 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

I¿m writing this letter to your office, because of the unfair and deceit practice of auto loan finders, inc; located at 1800 sandy plains industrial parkway, suite 320, in marietta, georgia 30066. I pray you can assist me with this matter. In November of 2010, I had purchased a used 2009 Toyota Yaris sedan with 47,398 miles on it. It is a basic model vehicle with manual roll down windows. I was informed by the sales representative at the time, that after a year I can go to a traditional auto dealer and trade the vehicle mentioned above; for a lower interest rate. I waited 2 years and 7 months to trade this vehicle in; keeping my $420. 00 monthly payment on time. I went to a Toyota dealership in metro atlanta on Sunday June 30, 2013 to trade in the Toyota Yaris and was informed by the sales representative that my vehicle had structural damage and they only could give me $2,500. 00 vice the $6,000. 00; if the vehicle wasn¿t structurally damage. He showed me the carfax on the vehicle mentioned above; had been in an accident in January of 2010 and that same vehicle was sold to me in November of 2010 and the structural damage to it wasn¿t disclosed to me. No matter what my situation was I wouldn¿t have bought a structural damage vehicle putting myself, passengers and other motorists in danger. The sales representative went on to say, the only thing they can do with that particular vehicle, is sell it at an auction; because they will not sell an unsafe vehicle to anyone. I have the entirety of this letter upon your request.

29 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

30 Body problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 04/11/2009

2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback s recall is for the weight capacity sticker. April 11, 2009 my fiancee was driving the car with four other passengers including myself. The car ended up sliding sidewards at less than 10 mph and came to rest at an angle on the guard rail. The front passenger side bumper, outside door, back quarter panel and rims were scratched and dented. I believe that this incident was caused due to the weight capacity limit on the tire size, which was incorrectly labeled by Toyota.

31 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 12/20/2008

I was driving my 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan along I-75 northbound towards atlanta when all of a sudden my driver's side door window just exploded for no reason. The shattered glass blew out all over the inside of the passenger cabin. There was no external force that caused the glass to shatter (it simply exploded spontaneously).
