2 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

The abs and brake warning lights came on at the same time and have remained on. Internet research has revealed that this is a known problem with the 2008 Toyota Yaris due to corrosion of the rear sensor and harness. Abs is now inoperable and the repair is very costly. This should have been a recall long ago by Toyota.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

When using the cruise control and going up a hill, abs light and brake light comes on. Now it does it even without cruise control on. Those lights come on when you start the car. The brakes and fluids have all been check and there is no defaults with any of that.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Drove car to train station during snow storm. Vehicle sat parked all day. Cleaned off snow that evening and began drive home. Several minutes into trip both abs and brake lights illuminated. Checked parking brake and found to be not engaged. Pumped brakes and appeared normal operation. Later checked brake fluid and again appeared normal level. Both lights stayed constantly illuminated for three days. Currently both lights collectively alternate between on and off during vehicle operation.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Periodically my abs brake light will come on during winter weather and then it will just go away when it is dry. On snow roads my brakes sometimes will not work. One day driving I drove through a red light because my brakes would not stop even though I was going around 30 and braked while in advance. Lucky, for me other drivers stopped. My mechanic confirmed that my abs wiring has to be replaced and the hub. This is a common issue for Yaris and Toyota admitted they know this is an issue but they do not have a recall. This could have easily cost my life or my 18 month old son's life.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/14/2013

One week ago my abs and brake light came on shortly after I had turned the car on. The light comes on and goes off at random intervals. On three occasions in the past two days, the brakes have vibrated and triggered the abs when I have pressed. Upon researching further, I have found numerous complaints on this website and several online forums that cite this same issue with the 2007 Toyota Yaris.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/09/2013

Vehicles emergency brake light and abs light continued to come on. Vehicle was taken to the Toyota dealer and we were told that the rear wiring harness and sensors had completed eroded and that until this problem was repaired the vehicle had no working abs system or traction stability control. We were advised that Toyota is aware of the problem but has still not done a recall. This to me is definitely a safety issued that should be addressed. The dealer did state that the reason the wiring harness had eroded was because the actual harness is open on the bottom allowing moisture to get into the harness area. The cost for this repair is over $750.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/07/2013

My brake light and abs light come on and go off every few days, my anti lock brakes disable and some times it's hard to slow down. It's the sensor, it started in the winter.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

The brake and abs lights came on simultaneously. They intermittently came on for the first day and for the last few weeks they have stayed on. I was told by a mechanic that it is likely a corroded sensor. Apparently this has been an issue for many of the Yaris per internet research. I can't afford the repair right now and have new brake pads that I was told by the mechanic are fine, but I'm not sure if I should continue driving it based on reports of accidents by other owners. This seems like a premature failure and safety issue that should be addressed by Toyota given the number of owners that have had the complaint. The alternator also needed repaired at about 45000 miles, which shouldn't have happened at that mileage, but a bad alternator doesn't necessarily cause the same safety issues as malfunctioning brakes. This is my third Toyota and my last.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

Abs and emergency brake light indicators turned on and stayed on. Brought car into mechanic, told code c0215 was shown - rear speed sensor lh circuit - and that Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) as this is apparently a common problem for the 2007-2008 Yaris. (for reference see: t-sb-0120-08) cost to fix both right and left sensors (left is currently failed, mechanic says according to the TSB it is likely the right side will fail soon as well so consider fixing both) is approx $1600 !!! (this includes cost to replace the speed sensors/hubs, the abs wires, and the hub bearing/sensor assembly). According to TSB "the sealing performance of the rear wheel speed sensor connectors has been improved to address this condition" - if this is the case why is there not a recall?? this is a safety issue - if I don't pay the $1600 to have this fixed, my anti lock brake system (which I paid extra for when I bought the car!) won't function.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/20/2011

My abs and brake warning lights came on at the same time on my 2007 Yaris sedan. The manual states to contact the dealer immediately in this situation. The abs is disabled in this situation. The problem was a left rear wheel speed sensor shorted (code p0215). Due to excessive corrosion on the connection the wiring harness was also replaced. The replaced parts were 89544-02070 (sensor, skid control) and 89516-52100 (wire, skid control). The amount of corrosion on the sensor and connecting wires on the Yaris point to a potential design issue. As it turns out this is a common problem on 2007 and 2008 Yaris's. Toyota has issued a tbs, thus they are aware of the problem. The problem appears to develop when the cars are driven in winter conditions. . I. E. Snow. . . As was the case with mine Yaris. Other owners have had abs systems operate improperly as a result and experienced braking problems.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

In January of 2011 the red hydraulic brake light and the yellow abs lights began to illuminate intermittently. When the lights were on the abs did not operate on slippery roads. Within two weeks the lights illuminated constantly. I brought the car to the dealership where the diagnostics indicated codes c0210 and c1238 requiring both rear speed sensors and associated wiring harnesses. The problem will not be repaired until the dealer/Toyota agree to comp the repair due to the service bulletins and number of consumer complaints on this issue. No accidents or injuries but it is necessary to be very cautious on wet/slippery roads.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the anti-lock brake and emergency brake lights would illuminate on the instrument panel. Once the contact engaged the brakes he would hear a moaning noise and intermittently experience an increased stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three occasions in which the contact was informed the anti-lock brake sensor needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. The VIN was unavailable.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

This is more for info than a complaint. My brake service light and abs service stays on my 2007 Toyota Yaris. With all the Toyota recalls this model is not on the recall list. I took it to my dealer to get repaired. They analyzed the problem and said a wire going to my brake had shorted out and causing the problem. I was told it was ok to drive and use the brakes. They had to order the parts to repair in a couple of days. I thought that I would let you know of my problem which may not be related at all with the other Toyota recall problems, but I don't really know.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan, with 71,000 miles on it. The abs and brake light come on for times up to 2 days before going out. Toyota released a TSB in June of 2008, acknowledging the problem, to correct the problem but failed to do anything unless the customer complained. The problem is corrosion of the contact points of the rear wheel speed sensors and wiring harness in northern weather areas where we use salt. The cost to the consumer is approximately $400. 00 per side to fix it if it happens after the 3 yr. 36,000 mile warranty. I think this unacceptable. I called Toyota and basally got hung up on. Can you look into this problem. Our northern customers in canada are also experiencing this problem.

16 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated the anti lock brake system light was illuminating on the instrument panel. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed the anti lock brake sensor was corroded. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 32,000. The VIN was unavailable.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 12/21/2009

12/21/09 - abs light and brake light came on. Car difficult to brake and making sprung "spring" type noises. Rear wheel sensor and wire harness had gone bad - replaced and went out again on 1/25/11. 6/8/10 car making funny whirling noises under hood. Alternator went bad.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 03/11/2009

My abs and brake warning lights came on at the same time on my 2008 Yaris sedan. The car was less than a year old with 12,465 miles at the time. The amount of corrosion on the sensor and connecting wires on the Yaris point to a potential design issue. A car that is less than a year old should not have these issues.

19 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 01/09/2009

My abs and brake lights came on at the same time on my 2007 Yaris sedan. The manual states to stop driving the car and contact the dealer immediately. The car is a daily commute car with 75,000 miles at the time. The problem was an internal failure of the right rear wheel speed sensor. The dealer replaced the sensor (part number 42450-52060 / hub & brg assy r), and cleaned corrosion from the wiring harness where it connects to the speed sensor. The total repair cost was over $650. The amount of corrosion on a car just over 2 years old on the rear abs wheel speed sensors shows a potential design flaw in this part and how it is attached on the Yaris vehicle line. This failure disables the abs system and causes erratic operation. On one occasion on the way to the dealer while the abs light was off I had a brake anomaly. I applied the brakes at a parking lot stop sign at slow speed (~5mph) and the abs kicked in and I couldn't stop. The weather and street was dry. It took more than 25ft to stop! the corrosion at this connection is causing intermittent operation of the abs system which is a safety concern.
