The contact owned a 2019 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that after his wife had arrived at her destination, a short time later she was made aware that the vehicle was on fire. Upon arriving on scene, the contact's wife observed a fire originating in the engine compartment. Local emergency services were called and were able to extinguish the fire. A police and fire report was filed, but no injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
This 2020 Yaris is registered to me but driven by my daughter to her workplace less that 3 miles away. The first incident involved the engine laboring to start and when she came home, the battery was dead. I was able to re-charge the battery at home but 2 days later, the car would not start at home. I have an auto engine scanner that registered a p2610 code stating "an engine control module, ecm/pcm engine off timer performance". The battery had been completely drained of its liquid. This is a safety hazard that could have stranded my daughter as she sometimes drives to houston which is about 30 miles away. I researched this code and found that the NHTSA has previously issued notices on these problems. We need help getting it resolved. Car is available for inspection.

The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Yaris. The contact initially stated that multiple attempts were needed to start his vehicle. When the vehicle would start, the transmission would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal with several unknown warning lights illuminated. Upon investigation underneath the hood, the contact discovered sticks and chewed wiring which he linked to squirrels. Since the initial discovery, the contact had seen squirrels entering and leaving the engine compartment on two separate occasions. The dealer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact ordered the parts to replace the wiring harness and air filter cover however, the vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 14,700.
Our vehicle got recalled and we're worried for the safety of our kids in a small unstable 2019 Toyota Yaris.

I have a 2020 Toyota Yaris with 3500 miles that has an intense and repeated vibration problem that started appearing 9 months after I bought the car new. When I come fully to a stop, sometimes the car will vibrate intensely like a massage chair. The vibration can be felt throughout - in seats, steering wheel, dash, brake pedal, even the doors and windows. The vibration is so intense it can be visually seen. When I look under the hood, the engine is shaking intensely. However, the problem only happens in drive/reverse and when stopped. If the car is in park/neutral, or when the car is moving, it does not vibrate. The vibration comes back when put back into drive/reverse. The vibration only happens once the car is warm. Car vibrates at 500 rpm. When rpm goes up to 600 or more, it stops vibrating. It also stops vibrating if the a/c compressor is turned on (rpms rising). An independent mechanic diagnosed the problem to be a low idle because idle rpms were too low (not a rough idle). I went to the Toyota dealership 4 times to fix the problem. They were able to replicate the problem and film it happening but were not able to fix it. The dealership has checked other cars for the problem; they first told me that my Yaris is the only one with that problem, then they changed their statement and said "3 other Yaris at other dealerships also had that problem, but it is like 3 out of 30,000 Yaris". This means that the vibration problem is not normal for this car and a few of these cars are defective (with mine being one of them). I went to the dealership 4 separate times regarding this issue but they refused or gave me an excuse, said they couldn't fix it, couldn't replicate the problem, etc. My car only has 3,500 miles and this is unacceptable for a new car. Toyota should acknowledge this problem and find an effective remedy, take this car back, or compensate the owner.
Squeals when cranks, all the times.

I went to dealership on western 1/7/19 bought a new vehicle 2019 Toyota Yaris le the same day the vehicle stopped on me while in traffic on 33rd and king drive all the lights turned red and came even before leaving the dealership the engine light came on and the agent ignocio told me that it's nothing it will go away. The same thing happened 1/11/19 and 1/25/19 in traffic on lakeshore drive and the vehicle stopped while in drive mode and all lights came on again windows were stuck doors were not unlocking and the key was in the vehicle as well. I was scared for my life and could been killed that day. Toyota dealership is not doing anything about the issue I told them this is a manufacturer defect because there is no way a brand new vehicle will have engine light including all other lights on and stop on on its onw in traffic.

There has been many times that when I needed the car to accelerate it wouldn't, nearly causing an accident several times. What usually happens is I will come up to a corner to make a turn and instead of stopping I accelerate to avoid oncoming traffic only to have the car hesitate . Sometimes I have had to push the accelerator peddle to the floor and even then it takes some time for the car to move faster. Also I have found that in traffic I will need to accelerate to avoid a collision only to find the car does not downshift and seemingly hesitating. Now not every time does this happen, but it happens sporadically. This dangerous, and I asked the dealer to check out the transmission, which they did but they found nothing. It was on July 19, 2017 that I took the car to the dealer, lombard Toyota customer #103445, invoice #382304.

The ac system started dripping noise and the right passenger side floor is soaked with water from underneath. The dealership wants to charge me alot of money but I read online that this is a common occurrence with these vehicles.
I have a light on my dash that looks like an engine. Had the car tested and it shows that it is a little module type deal that has had to do with fuel evaporation or something on that line. Sounds like they are notorious for going bad. Its like a $300 part.
I was driving home from work when the battery light came on when I pulled into my drive way. I smelled something burning and there was smoke coming from under the hood of my 2007 Yaris. I popped the hood and the alternator was on fire. I poured water on it to put it out and disconnected the battery. It was still making an odd sound so I poured some more water on it and it started smoking again.
Experienced failure of emissions evap system due to water intrusion through poorly designed components. Check engine lamp (cel) illuminated constant on during highway travel. Stored dtcs of p043e, p043f, p2401, p2402, and p2419. Internet search reveled existing issue in TSB eg048-07 which notes water enters filler pipe cover, contaminates canister filter, then damages the evap pump located in charcoal canister. Repair requires an updated filler cover ($6), replacement of filter ($50), new canister ($600), plus 0. 5hr of labor charges. Applicable warranty is 3year/36000miles. During repair replaced filler cover, filter, then cleaned entire system of water. Note: this Yaris was already built using the updated filler cover p/n. Yaris failed the following test drive done in attempt to avoid expensive canister replacement. Followed Toyota service manual to troubleshoot canister which lead to permanent damage. Three bolts attach the pump valve to the canister via plastic threaded inserts. These inserts stripped inside the plastic, rendering the canister unusable. Replacing with new canister and retesting for repair. This portion of the emissions system is related to a mandated requirement. This failure should be covered under the longer term emissions warranty period and not this shorter term period. Failure of a $6 component resulting in victim failures of $650 in additional components is irritating to the consumer and irresponsible of the manufacturer. Customer has already noted that this event will affect (negatively) future vehicle purchase decisions. Note: this failure does not seem to affect mpg or operation but does illuminate the cel. Consumers might operate w/o repair which will condition them to accept an illuminated cel. They might not be notified of other obd malfunctions and partially disabled emissions control system.
We drive a 2008 Yaris. Because we got it used and the previous driver drove so much, its 3 year/36,000 mile warranty no longer applied, but we got an extended power train warranty. This year, the engine wiring harness broke, and we found out that Toyota knew about the faulty harnesses. (the TSB on it mentions replacing it with an "improved" harness. ) while Toyota describes this as not being a safety issue, we feel otherwise, as the symptom is an immediate loss of power and inability to accelerate, which could be dangerous on the highway. Needless to say, since this part is not being recalled, since in a dbw car, this is not part of the powertrain, and hence, we are not under warranty, Toyota required us to pay $1000 to fix this.
Stopped to place a fast food order-moved up to pay-truck in front waiting to pay-had foot on break--car lunged forward and hit the truck in front-the engine revved up while I had my foot on the break-I even pushed down harder on the break.
A/c drain line gets clogged and drains water on floor. Have taken line off and cleaned several times. Problem returns.
Passenger side of vehicle has a leak when the air conditioner is used. Took to the dealer and was charged approximately $200 to fix said problem. Less than a month later the issue is happening again. Seems to be more than one issue of this occuring.
12/21/09 - abs light and brake light came on. Car difficult to brake and making sprung "spring" type noises. Rear wheel sensor and wire harness had gone bad - replaced and went out again on 1/25/11. 6/8/10 car making funny whirling noises under hood. Alternator went bad.
Toyota Yaris, 2009, sedan, 4dr, 7 months of use, strong bad odor problems with the air conditioner unit, took the car to the dealer and they performed a replacement of the air filters, the dealer informed me that it was fixed but before I reached my house the problem was there again. Took the car to the dealer again and this time the service representative informed me that all the Toyota Yaris 2009 have the same bad odor problem in the air conditioner unit, and that it was a manufacturer defect. I asked for a fix to this problem but the answer I received from the dealer service representative was that they are still collecting complaints and information to request a recall or fix from the Toyota company, which can take an indefinite amount of time. Meanwhile I am stock with the problem and no other options available to fix it.
At a low speed accident seat came forward, airbag exploded unevenly, engine mount came loose.
