36 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/19/2026

I am filing a complaint regarding a premature failure of a critical safety-related lighting component on my 2022 Volkswagen Atlas. The driver-side headlight daytime running light (drl) has failed. After inspection by an authorized Volkswagen dealership (momentum Volkswagen), I was informed that the drl is not a serviceable component and that the entire headlight assembly must be replaced. This is concerning for several reasons: 1. The vehicle is a 2022 model year and has been properly maintained with no accidents or external damage. 2. The drl is an integrated led component that should reasonably last the life of the vehicle. 3. The failure of a non-replaceable led strip forces replacement of the entire headlight assembly, resulting in excessive and unreasonable repair costs. I contacted Volkswagen group of America requesting goodwill assistance, as this appears to be a premature component failure rather than normal wear and tear. Despite escalation and review with a supervisor, my request was denied. The only assistance offered was a 20% dealership discount, which does not adequately address the issue. I believe this situation reflects: •a potential design defect (non-serviceable led component) •unreasonable repair costs due to lack of modular repair options •failure of a component that should not fail under normal conditions in such a short time frame desired resolution: I am requesting that Volkswagen provide goodwill assistance to cover a significant portion (preferably full coverage) of the headlight assembly replacement. Additionally, I encourage Volkswagen to review this design approach, as it places an unfair financial burden on customers for failures of non-serviceable components. I am seeking a fair and reasonable resolution consistent with customer satisfaction and product reliability expectations.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/10/2026

I have had several malfunctions in the past year with my brand new 2025 Atlas. It started 6 months into my lease when it threw 7 different lights while driving down the street. I stopped at a light and put the car in park. After that it would not go back in drive. I had to get pushed out of the road with all my kids in the car. And have it towed to the dealership. They stated it just needed an update. After that everything started failing. The sunroof motor had to be replaced. The inside dome lights had to be replaced. The window motor had to be replaced. The infotainment system has repeatedly failed, been replaced and still fails. It has been a total nightmare.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/06/2026

My remote start no longer works since the vw update. Intermittent electrical issues with “check tail light” message. Vw has changed the light and module and it’s still happening.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/03/2026

Component failed: abs braking system / wiring harness. Safety risk: while driving at highway speeds with my service animal, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic abs failure. The brakes became unresponsive, and the dashboard displayed multiple critical safety warnings, nearly resulting in a collision. Confirmation: the failure was confirmed by schumacher vw (west palm beach) during a forensic inspection. They identified the cause as a corroded/damaged wiring harness—the exact defect visible in a diagnostic video from jim ellis vw one week prior. Warning symptoms: "front assist" and sensor warning lamps appeared on [xxx]. I paid jim ellis vw for a diagnostic; however, they failed to repair the visible defect and later falsely denied to the bbb that the diagnostic ever occurred. Summary: this vehicle (VIN: [xxx] ) has a documented safety defect that was identified by a technician but concealed by dealership management. This concealment led to a total loss of braking assist while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle is currently available for inspection at schumacher vw. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

40 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

The vehicle warning lights come on and off to make it seem like I am about to hit or to close to something when I am not moving at all. The vehicle putts and stalls while driving like it wants to cut off. It also does this when I am at a complete stop as well as if I am backing up warning lights on the dash appear than disappear sometimes as well.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/30/2026

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the engine and the hvac systems. Specifically, a persistent "ghost misfire"—where the engine vibrates and shudders without triggering a dashboard warning light—and a total heater failure. The vehicle is currently held at the dealership; all service records (ro# 367641, 367891, 367980, 368179) are available. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the "ghost misfire" causes shaking and hesitation during acceleration, creating a risk of losing power or stalling in high-speed traffic. Because the vehicle's diagnostics do not trigger a warning light for this condition, the driver has no advance notice of a potential engine failure. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. Dealership technicians confirmed the misfire on Feb 9 (ro# 367891) and found a defective spark plug gap (. 024” vs. . 036”). On Feb 25, the service consultant confirmed the "ghost misfire" remained active. The heater failure was confirmed via a 'heater support pump dry run' fault code (ro# 367641). 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle has been inspected by dealership technicians. Formal complaints have also been filed with the California bureau of automotive repair and the California attorney general. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? symptoms began following a service on Jan 30. Feb 8: exhaust malfunction light (mil) appeared briefly with severe shaking. Feb 9–present: exhaust malfunction warning lights appeared briefly and then disappeared, but the engine vibration and "ghost misfire" symptoms remain active and undetected by the vehicle's onboard diagnostics. Feb total loss of heat occurred during a highway drive without a dashboard warning lamp.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/29/2026

I am reporting a critical safety failure of the abs wiring harness following service at jim ellis Volkswagen. I originally brought the vehicle in for a "front assist" safety light diagnostic. Immediately following the service, the abs wiring harness failed, disabling my braking safety systems. The dealership is currently withholding the diagnostic report and technician notes that would confirm the state of the wiring harness during their inspection. This failure has rendered the vehicle undriveable and creates a severe safety risk to the driver and public.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/28/2026

The owners manual for the 2024 vw Atlas sel fuse diagrams and descriptions do not match the fuse box (interior) found in the vehicle. As an example the owners manual states the telephone system is controlled via fuse 16, but in my vehicle fuse 16 is an airbag fuse (as detailed in third-party fuse diagrams (e. G. [xxx] )). While third-party sources do display the correct and accurate fuse diagrams these may not be available to a driver in an emergency when they need to investigate an issue and replace a fuse on the roadside. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

44 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/17/2026

I was driving on the road and my car just turned off. The car turned off mid drive. When I tried to turn the car on again, the engine revved and within a few seconds the car turned off again. The dash showed an error message "error: drive system. Please service vehicle. " when the tow truck came, the tow truck driver said he has seen this issue before with vw Atlas cars. He tried to turn the car on again, and the same thing happened. When this happened, I felt extremely unsafe because the car just stopped in the middle of the street and I was unable to turn it back on or get it to move from the middle of the street. Thankfully it was not a busy street and there were no cars behind me. There were no warning messages prior to the failure. The car initially started as usual with no warnings of this problem prior to beginning the drive. The error message only appeared after the car stopped mid drive and before the dash screen shut off. The car was towed to the service center. They acknowledged the problem and have not been able to provide a reason for the malfunction.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

The center infotainment/display screen in this 2024 vw Atlas repeatedly goes black, freezes, and reboots itself while the vehicle is being driven, including at highway speed (about 43-55 mph). When it fails, the screen collapses to a clock only and shows "navigation not available," "telephone not available," and "app-connect not available," then the entire head unit reboots on its own while driving. During these failures the driver loses the rearview/backup camera image, climate and audio controls, navigation, and phone functions - a serious safety hazard while the car is in motion. The problem is ongoing and has not been fixed. The vehicle has been to the Volkswagen dealer five times for this issue (01/15/2026, 01/26/2026, 05/27/2026, 06/16/2026, and 06/30/2026). Repair order #436699 documents the screen "intermittently going black"; a dealer software update was performed and did not resolve it - the failure recurred. There is a 79-second video of the head unit rebooting while driving at 43-55 mph. This matches vw recall 26v473000 (2024-2026 Atlas, a low-voltage electrical event affecting display-screen functions) and TSB 91-23-03 (mib3 infotainment freezing/rebooting/black screen). Losing the backup camera, controls, and displays while driving endangers the occupants and others on the road.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

The rear light bar/tail light assembly fills with water and causing turn signals and light bar to intermittently not work. This occurred the first time that the vehicle was left out in the rain at approximately 65k. It is always parked covered and I do not drive in the rain. Many other Atlas have this issue much sooner if they are left in the inclement weather.

47 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

The emergency sos/ emergency call function has failed. It appeared yesterday, so I began looking into the issue online. This issue is absolutely endemic and is occurring across multiple late model Volkswagen vehicles. Volkswagen is aware of this issue (per their guidance to vw mechanics which can be found using search tools), but they do not appear to be addressing it unless amd until customers bring their cars into their respective dealerships.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

The vehicle intermittently displays a “steering lock faulty, stop!” warning and fails to start. When this occurs, the vehicle cannot be operated at all. This issue has occurred multiple times within a short period and has persisted despite prior repair attempts by authorized Volkswagen dealerships. The failure of the steering lock system prevents the vehicle from starting, creating a safety concern as the vehicle may become unexpectedly inoperable and leave the driver stranded. The repeated nature of this issue raises concerns about the reliability and safety of the vehicle.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/23/2025

Both low beam headlights went out within two weeks of each other and the vehicle just hit 100,000 miles. Dealership states that replacing the entire headlight assembly is the only fix and will cost $3,000. So now both headlights (safety issue) are out and the vehicle cannot be driven safely. Other vw Atlas vehicles are having the same issue around 50-60k miles. There should be a recall on the head lamps for safety concerns and liability reasons.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

The infotainment system where the back up camera is held and all other safety features started re booting and eventually went black December 17th 2025. I brought into Volkswagen riverhead NY dealer where they said there was an update that needed to be done and all was fixed. I am 1000 miles under warranty so all was covered. After driving about 20 minutes home the issue started happening again where the system was re booting and than eventually black. I called the dealer on the way home and they said OH yes its been a "known" issue on many makes of Volkswagen since October 2025. They told me there was nothing they could do. I now called Volkswagen customer care where they are stating they are un sure how to fix this. If you google you will see many complaints about this stemming back quite some time. I would like a resolution before my warranty runs out and I am than going to have to pay out of pocket.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

The infotainment system on my 2022 Volkswagen Atlas se failed completely at 58,435 miles. The screen goes blank/black and the system will not remain operational. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by an authorized Volkswagen dealership (autonation Volkswagen of hilton head, repair order #434220). The dealer confirmed failure of the 5f information electronics (infotainment) control module and recommended full module replacement. Volkswagen customer care acknowledged the diagnosis but denied goodwill assistance solely because the vehicle was approximately 8,000 miles beyond the warranty period. No misuse, modification, water intrusion, or customer-caused damage was alleged. This failure renders core vehicle functions inoperable and is consistent with widely reported failures of Volkswagen/Audi infotainment control modules (5f / mib / mmi systems). This appears to be a premature failure of a non-wear electronic control module and may represent a broader defect pattern affecting multiple vehicles.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/12/2025

The radio keeps turning off and on and random stuff keeps popping up on the dash I have read that Atlas models from 2019 to 2023 have wiring harness issues why is there no recall for this and all research I have done with what is going on is leading up to a wiring harness issue.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/08/2025

The rear camera of our vehicle has been intermittently failing for the past year. The vw dealer has not been able to repair as it is an intermittent issue. Today the entire screen wouldn't turn on to even be able to control the hvac system, and it was a cold day. Luckily the rear has separate controls so my kids weren't freezing in the car. I was going to take it to the dealer today, but the screen started working again and the service advisor said not to bring it in if it's not broken. We have brought this car in several times for the reverse camera not functioning with no repairs done. All we are told is the mechanic resets modules and it should be good. There was a recall for this issue which was performed. The problems occured more frequently since the recall was performed, but I'm always told that they can't fix what's not broken, which I understand. This is a large vehicle not having a reverse camera working properly at all times is a big safety concern that is being dismissed because they can't figure it out. I'm in a hard place. I can't leave them the car forever as it's the car we drive our kids in. They won't give us a loaner as they are not required to. Are we just stuck with a car that has an intermittent safety concern with no remedy? I have video of it not working, but it won't let me upload it.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 12/08/2025

In December all of the cameras and front assist sensors stopped working. When I called to get into a Volkswagen dealer they first told me to get a car wash and that should solve it. When that didn’t work they weren’t able to get my car in for about 1 month. I’m that time we collided with deer on the highway and none of the collision assists worked. Now my car repaired and it’s still not working. My car was new in July 2025.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

The vehicle has experienced multiple serious safety failures involving the steering, electrical system, and powertrain. Most recently, while driving, the steering wheel locked unexpectedly, causing a temporary loss of control. Multiple dashboard warning lights began flashing, and the epc light turned on and off repeatedly. I had to bring the vehicle to a complete stop and restart the engine to regain control. The camshaft/camshaft position sensor and steering system appear to be malfunctioning, and the issues have recurred multiple times. The vehicle has been taken to a dealer for inspection and repairs several times, but the failures continue. These problems have created a serious safety risk, as loss of steering and erratic electrical behavior can lead to accidents, putting myself, passengers, and others on the road at risk. Warning lamps first appeared intermittently after prior repairs, but the steering wheel lock incident is the most severe event to date.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

I’ve owned the Atlas for a little over a year now and throughout the year the vehicles infotainment system and electrical system has had several recurring issues. I’ll get notifications while I’m driving of the front and rear sensors being inactive, the entire infotainment system will periodically reboot while driving, the automatic braking system unexpectedly engaged on a couple occasions - even when there was not a collision hazard, the systems bluetooth connectivity will go on and off while driving which affects my ability to use gps and creates a distraction while trying to correct, the infotainment system will crash while I’m in reverse which takes away the use of the back up camera, and just the other day the voice control activated while I was driving (without being prompted) and I couldn’t deactivate it without manually rebooting it while I was driving. I did a few google searches to find a resolution but it appears many others are having similar issues. These recurring issues have distracted my attention while driving and have created some dangerous situations that could have easily caused a crash or incident.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/05/2025

Dangerous car cyput off in full engagement. Brakes grinding squealing an unfamiliar sounds. The engine has major rust in air intake valves the epc code shut car down in full engagement and you can not restart unless u put extra gas in. Te car was replaced with new seats new body new rugs an the color has been repainted. The screws in bolts are not lined up an junkyard parts under carriage of car. Unfortunately I didn't see all this when I fiancee it in may a machine showed me this an I bought a used lemon from tampa enterprise car sales in may 2025. 645 a month in payment to ally banks. Car in shop more then on road anit has never ever been serviced as it was told to me as a pre certified car. They lied to me an restore almost everything in this car the dealership even questioned me about color coating comestic missing ve design on plated door. I need help.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

While driving, the vehicle suddenly loses engine power and shuts off without warning. This has happened multiple times and creates a serious safety hazard because it happen in traffic multiple times . The problem appears to be related to the fuel pump control module and/or electrical wiring failure. Additionally, the power windows stopped functioning due to a failure in the driver door wiring harness, which is a known issue on this vehicle model year. The electrical malfunction and engine stall appear to be connected. This issue has been repaired because the dealership stated the warranty is expired, but this is a safety defect that can lead to a crash. There is also an open unrepaired recall on this vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/16/2025

Volkswagen has a bad software patch that has impacted vw Atlas' nationwide. Infotainment systems including the front and rear safety cameras as well as car controls are not accessible because the infotainment system is completely off. This is impacting the entire nation and dealerships are unable to provide updates. This is a huge safety concern. People will get hurt because of this outage.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/16/2025

Software-related problem affecting the infotainment system and connected electronic sensors, including the loss of backup camera, loss of dash screen control information (black out). Loss of defrost control since it is part of hvac system controlled by video screen. Loss of sensors front and rear. Dealer has seen the car. We have called a week later. No expectation of a fix or timetable.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/16/2025

The info system screen goes blank. It will intermittently go off and return on before shutting off completely. The info screen is the only way to operate the air controls. This makes the vehicle unsafe to operate when conditions require air adjustments to keep a clear windshield. This issue also causes numerous dash alerts. Rear and front collision plus maneuver braking.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/15/2025

All of the lights keep coming on for all of our systems. Collision avoidance, cruise control, automatic braking, blind spot. Radio screen goes black and cannot work anything on car including heat. Car will just randomly go into limp mode. Very unsafe for this to happen while driving on highway.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/15/2025

The infotainment center is not working- the screen is black. I am unable to see any of my cameras, change my air/heat- it is currently set to cold and it is freezing when I drive my car, I can’t use my map or hands free calling. This is very unsafe and none of the safety features are working.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/13/2025

The contact owns a 2025 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the infotainment display unit was inoperable. During the failure, the back over prevention camera display was inoperable along with the front and rear window defrosters, and blind spot monitoring system being inoperable. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a satellite system issue had caused the failure on several different model vehicles. No further information was available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 5,500.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

Circuit malfunction- faulty wiring causing abs, and epc damage and defects.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/09/2025

I am submitting this complaint to report ongoing safety-related defects with my Volkswagen vehicle that remain unresolved despite multiple attempts through the manufacturer and an authorized dealership. The vehicle has experienced recurring and unpredictable issues including warning lights activating without explanation, sensor malfunctions, abnormal and recurring brake noises, and the infotainment/vehicle information system intermittently failing to power on or experiencing complete blackouts during operation. These issues occur during normal driving and present potential safety concerns by distracting the driver, limiting access to vehicle information, and raising concerns regarding braking reliability and electrical system stability. I previously filed a formal complaint directly with Volkswagen regarding these defects and have received no meaningful response, resolution, or follow-up. I also brought the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealership for inspection. Despite review, no permanent repair was completed and the same defects continue to occur. I was not provided a clear explanation, corrective action, or assurance that the vehicle is safe for continued operation. I have documentation showing that these issues are not isolated to my vehicle. Identical brake noises and infotainment system blackouts have been widely reported by other Volkswagen owners across social media platforms and reddit community groups, suggesting a broader or systemic defect. In addition, I personally possess videos and photographs documenting the brake noises, infotainment blackouts, warning lights, and electrical irregularities affecting my vehicle. This evidence is available upon request, and I am prepared to provide follow-up information as needed. Given the repeated failures, lack of manufacturer response, and corroborating reports from other owners, I am requesting that this complaint be formally recorded and evaluated by the NHTSA.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

My 2024 Volkswagen Atlas se began collecting visible moisture inside the rear tail light assembly less than 18 months after purchase. Over time, this led to intermittent lighting failure, sometimes the lights function, sometimes they don’t. This is a safety concern, especially at night or in poor weather. After researching the issue, I found that this is a widely reported problem among vw Atlas owners and has even been referenced in vw’s own technical service bulletin 94-22-01, which is published in the NHTSA database. The bulletin calls this “normal condensation,” but this is beyond that there is visible water pooling and electrical malfunction and I know of others who report the same thing. Vw is down playing this to avoid the recall. Despite being under extended warranty, this is not covered because vw considers it cosmetic unless there’s proven seal failure. The vehicle is available for inspection and has been evaluated by a certified vw service center. Volkswagen needs to address this as a design or sealing defect, especially when it affects vehicle safety systems like brake and signal lights.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

Hood release cable has snapped resulting in inability to access critical components on the vehicle or do routine maintenance. After researching, this is a common and know issue for this vehicle.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

Without warning, carnet stops working. This is unsafe because folks get faulty directions, which causes concerns and confusion and the following safety features do not work without warning, automatic crash notification, manual emergency call, roadside assistance, anti-theft detection, and stolen vehicle location assistance. An online search reveals a ton of issues with this since they started offering carnet. Also, module “burned up due to bad luck” per southpoint Volkswagen dealership in baton rouge.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas

Failure Date: 09/20/2025

I bought the car in 2023 with 700 miles on it. Since then when coming from a stop the engine delays for about 5-10 seconds when pushing the gas, it eventually goes and happens often but not every time. Another issue is when coming to a stop the car turns off without any warning. When you try to go you have to put it back in park and start the car again. This has happened about ten times in two years. The last couple of times it has happened more regularly and in dangerous situations. I have brought it to two different dealerships as I have a 5 year warranty. First one told me they couldn’t replicate the issue but only drove the car 1 mile. Second drive it 30 miles and also told me there was nothing they could do. I started a case with vw and they called back saying they may have an idea and I need to bring it back for a third time but they have silent since. They also refused to tell me what it was they wanted to check.
